On 28 June 2023, a gunman engaged in a firefight with security forces near the US consulate in Jeddah, resulting in the deaths of both the attacker and a security guard. The incident led to two deaths, including a member of the local guard force at the consulate and the attacker, who was killed by Saudi security forces.
