Emmelichthys papillatus is a species of fish in the genus Emmelichthys. Specimens of the species were collected from fish markets on Panay and Cebu islands in the Visayas region of the Philippines.

Information

The fish, emmelichthys papillatus, ranges from 5-6 inches long and they could be identified from the other fish by their dusky rose color. The fish is pink at the top and then fades to silver-pink and then it has some darker pink scales. The fish also has bright red lips. The fish has two protrusions from the bony area of the clavicle. It has fewer fins and fewer gill rakers.

Etymology

Its called papillated redbait, or its actual name, emmelichthys papillatus. It got the name papillated redbait from the feature that made it different from all the other fish. The fish has two prominent fleshy papillae, and has fewer fins along it sides and less gill rakers.
