Scissor macrocephalus is a species of characin endemic to Suriname. It is the only member of its genus.

Taxonomy and etymology

The generic name is based on the Latin for "one who cleaves", and the specific epithet is Greek for "large head". The species was described from a single specimen, and the description is doubtful. The binomial is incertae sedis within Characidae and the species may actually properly belong to Oligosarcus.
