udhcpc is a very small DHCP client program geared towards embedded systems. The letters are an abbreviation for Micro - DHCP - Client (μDHCPc). The program tries to be fully functional and RFC 2131 compliant.
udhcpc was originally developed in 1999 by Matthew Ramsay and Christ Trew under the GNU GPLv2 licence. It was added to BusyBox on 21 August 2002 and first released as a part of such in 0.60.4 on 18 September 2002. The package was marked as unmaintained on 26 October 2009, suggesting to those who wanted a standalone package to use BusyBox with all other applets disabled.
