The Greenwald Rabbinic family was a big family mostly rabbis in Hungarian cities. The family traced its roots to the Rabbi Meir Eisenstadt the Panim Meiros, the Chacham Tzvi, and the Maharal. The Pupa Hasidic dynasty, originated from that family.

Lineage

  • Rabbi Yosef Greenwald (1805-March 01, 1899 (94)), Grand Rabbi of Tshetsowitz (brother-in-law of Rabbi Amram Hasidah), married to Yoheved Yitel daughter of Rabbi Moshe Nahum Rosenbaum, Rov of Vozhan
    • R’ Amram Greenwald of Csorna (1831-April 29, 1870 (39)), an outstanding disciple of the Ksav Sofer, who was fond of and admired him, and chose him to help him. He called him "my student, who is like a son" in his responsa. Rabbi Amram was famed for his genius and righteousness. After his engagement, he studied with the Maharam Ash. He spent all his days in Csorna, without interest in serving in the rabbinate. He married his wife Esther (Netti), daughter of Shloime Gestetner, on that condition. He passed away on the 28th of Nissan, 1870. He was buried in the cemetery in Farád, Hungary. She was buried in the cemetery in Csorna, Hungary.
