From Indian Lakes is an American indie rock band from the Yosemite National Park area in California formed in 2008. It was founded by Joey Vannucchi as a one man project. The band has stated influences ranging from Radiohead, Bombay Bicycle Club, mewithoutYou, and Circa Survive. After releasing an EP and doing one single tour off of it with various friends, the live band dissolved. He continued to write and record until recruiting the current band members Enrique Gutierrez (Percussion, Keys), Justin Stanphill (Guitar), Chris Kellogg (Bass), and Tohm Ifergan (Drums) rounding out the group in 2009. Shortly after the final lineup was established, they released their debut album, The Man With Wooden Legs independently. After many self-booked tours with fellow Californian bands and an appearance at Cornerstone Festival, Joey began writing both the Acoustic EP and Able Bodies over the next few years. Both were released in 2012 without label support. Joey continues to write and record a majority of the music and is currently in the studio working on the bands third record, which will be put out by Triple Crown Records, the bands first album release on the label.

History

[edit]

Beginnings

[edit]

Joey Vannucchi grew up on forty acres of land near Yosemite National Park in California. Without Electricity, or other common things he spent most of his youth playing drums and teaching himself other instruments. After many years of his childhood spent alone in the mountains, he started to establish his own unique sound and advance as both a singer and a songwriter.

In 2007 he began writing and recording songs in Indian Lakes, CA which eventually turned into the band "From Indian Lakes" in 2009 after recruiting hometown friends to join him. The band quickly established a following in their hometown of Fresno, California and started to tour along the West Coast and even as far as the Midwest. They began recording their debut album, The Man With Wooden Legs, in 2009 with Dryw Owens at Real Sound Studios in Sacramento, CA. The album was later released in December 2009.

With their fan base growing, Joey set out to write and record another album. Lacking enough funds to do, it took the band almost three years to get back into the studio with Dryw Owens to record what would later be their second album, Able Bodies. During the time between both full length albums, the Acoustic EP was written and recorded in a friends studio in San Francisco, California.

The Man With Wooden Legs

[edit]

On December 15, 2009, From Indian Lakes released their debut album, The Man With Wooden Legs. The album was produced by Dryw Owens at his studio in Sacramento, CA. Accompanying Joey in the studio to help track the record was Matt Mendoza, Justin Stanphill, and Jesse Kennedy.

Acoustic EP

[edit]

In between albums, From Indian Lakes decided to record an acoustic EP for their fans. This release would simply be called, Acoustic EP. Joey tracked the four song EP with longtime friend, Matt Bedrosians at his studio in San Francisco, CA. After releasing the EP digitally, Joey handmade physical copies and their packaging and set out on a month long living room tour to support the EPs release.

Able Bodies

[edit]

On November 2013, the band released their second album, Able Bodies. The band quickly gained traction and set out on a handful of tours with the likes of The Dangerous Summer, Lydia, The Maine, Anberlin, two appearances at SXSW, and South By So What Festival. In March 2014, they completed their first headline tour throughout the US, with many of the shows selling out.
