Seems like there is a lot of personal baggage on all sides over at that AFD. My sense from reading the debate is that people are largely voting in line with their personal sympathies, rather than whether the topic is suitable for a Misplaced Pages article. That is an entirely different question than whether the current one is perfect, and this looks to me like an attempt to use AFD to circumvent standard editing dispute resolution. A request for assistance

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 05:02 3 January 2007 (UTC).

I don't recall ever editing the Earhart page. Such generic requests to uninvolved editors should be lodged at WP:RFC. Derex 18:02, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

"Arabella" Kennedy

Please see my post at Talk:Kennedy family regarding the use of the name "Arabella Kennedy". JackofOz 05:12, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

I have responded on the talk page. Thank you for approaching the matter so calmly and rationally. -- Where

Nothing personal, as we've all a right to our opinions on AfD, but I thought I'd at least identify what I am talking about. The italicized "peace" is a translation of "Salaam," the use of which is meant as a proclamation of religious identity. As I do not adhere to that particular religion, I find it annoying, much as others might find it annoying were I to conclude every post with, "In the name of Jesus Christ."Proabivouac 06:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi derex, I just want to comment Proabivouac comment above. Equating peace to "In the name of jesus" doesn't make any sense. Yes salam is a translation for peace, so what? If I follow Proabivouac's logic, Anyone can't say anything. Almost all english words has arabic translation, and posting english translation of arabic is "a proclamation of religious identity". Peace. --Nielswik(talk) 12:39, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

For the deletionists: if the accusations are bunk, this is a great place to document that neutrally. Derex 20:18, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Administrator's Incident Noticeboard

WP:ANI#Request assistance regarding User:Derex. Yuser31415 (Editor review two!) 23:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up, Yuser. Frankly, I don't understand the basis of the complaint, which I address below.

  • Whenever, I try to engage him in a discussion and respond to his accusations he deletes my posts
    • Here is the start of what I deleted: "I must say, you are the most irrational person I have ever had the displeasure of coming across in all of Misplaced Pages ..." I removed it _twice_ as a personal attack, since it did not appear an honest attempt to "engage me in a discussion".
  • and threatens me not to return to his talk page or else he'll have me banned.
    • I have made no such threat, nor could I possibly have him banned. I have asked him repeatedly to stay off my user page because of his personal attacks; he has repeatedly ignored those requests.
  • he has conducted research into 6 and 7 year old posts I made on a previous website and posted them on his user page in some weird attempt to discredit my work here at Misplaced Pages.
    • I was unaware that I needed his approval for what goes on my page. Posting links to reference sources is perfectly acceptable. He seems to believe that his own writings serve to "discredit" him. That's perhaps an interesting insight into his psychology, but I can't see the bearing his personal angst has on my work here.
  • To do what he is doing smacks of McCarthism (sic) or a witch hunt and needs to be quickly knocked down and knocked down hard.
    • I'm curious what sort of "knocking down" Jayzel has in mind for me. Personally, I'd suggest he follow Theresa's excellent advice and quit harassing me, and we can all go about our business. He might also be well-served to review the civility policy; I'll spare you the various links to his most recent personal attacks because I have no desire to see him blocked yet again for this.

tally ho

you're gone for a while to come back to start shit on an RfC? I guess we're all conflict-junkies here. ;) --kizzle 23:24, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

no, i actually do find nuclear funny these days; i think he's a performance artist. i've got other conflicts aplenty though, see above. Derex 23:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Do you really want something like this again? (shakes head, "oh, the young people today) Guettarda 23:36, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

too cool, or too dangerous? Derex 23:40, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm afraid I must file a citation against you as Acting Deputy Director of the Liberal Cabal (JML is in absentia), as you have let the public see your utter contempt for families, freedom, and the American Dream, a.k.a Liberalism, of which public disclosure is expressly forbidden within Cabal rules. This DailyKos link has exposed you for the partisan we all know you to be...one more slip-up and I'm demoting you to the Zionist Cabal with Ms. Freisling and the rest of the wannabes. --kizzle 23:44, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Excuse me, "in absentia"? What is this, a coup attempt? All disciplinary matters against members of the Liberal Cabal must be submitted to the full Politburo for review. And don't you try to ease me out prematurely, you young whippersnapper. JamesMLane t c 07:10, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Good trick, you fooled him into thinking you were a liberal by hiding the evidence for people to find and think that it was hidden to stop them from finding, rather than the true reason (that it was hidden for them to find). But I was actually talking about your edits to Kizzle's user page... Guettarda 23:45, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Looks like you fooled Kizzle too...oh, wait a minute, who was it that claimed to own a ferret (and almost broke poor Ryan's heart?) Guettarda 23:46, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
