The road was constructed in the ] to connect the ] ] in ] to the rest of Ontario. The town of Fraserdale became its northern terminus and the dam was built nearby. Construction began in ] and the road was finished and opened to traffic on ], ]. It was fully paved in ], and in ], the road was renumbered as ].

The road's designation was a temporary one, applied to a new highway that was being built between ] and ] in ]. Construction began in ] at the Atikokan (southern) end of the proposed routing. In ], construction crews began on the Ignace (northern) part of the road, working their way south from ]. ], the north and south portions of Highway 807 were linked. The road was officially opened to traffic in ] of ], nad renumbered from Highway 807 to Highway 622.
