Saw Something Odd...

Why are you threatening to ban harvard university from posting to wikipedia? What does this mean "If you continue to delete or blank page contents or templates from Misplaced Pages..." ?http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:140.247.246.23 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Angelatomato (talkcontribs) 00:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC). Angelatomato 00:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Now, that's funny. I noticed several page blankings, so I applied the uw-delete3 template... and then Selketbot did the DNS lookup and determined the IP was from Harvard, after I had left the page . :P Go figure. Locriani 00:22, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh... well maybe it was an accident. Peace out. Angelatomato 00:25, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

The way the block system works, Harvard as a whole would not have been blocked.  ;) Don't worry about it, although the anti-vandalism mechanics may seem harsh, they're carefully designed so as to not block multiple people because of a single person's actions. The worst case scenario: You would have to have a user account, and be logged in, to edit. Locriani 00:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah - i happened to see it when I was logged in to the lab there (but not to wiki). I just thought it was funny... :) Angelatomato 00:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

That's just too funny, and coincidental. Oh well, c'est la vie! Locriani 00:34, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I actually got scared someone would blame me! I don't know how this works at all...well plus or minus a few things that the person sitting next to me is telling me to do. Angelatomato 00:37, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

By the way...

welcome to Misplaced Pages! ;) If you are new and want some pointing around, let me know. Otherwise, have fun! :) Locriani 00:29, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. yeah i am new as an actual user (or editor i guess?) but i have always used it for searches. I am curious about the whole thing now...it's so popular despite it's mildly high level of complexity for a new user. Like - I dont even know how to send you a message...will you get it if I just leave it here or do I have to put it on your page? Angelatomato 00:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Hahaha, it does actually need to go on my talk page in order for me to get the message. Of course, I always have the option of "watching" your page, which alerts me to when this page is updated. You're right, it is popular, and extremely complex. It does take some getting used to, and I won't claim that I'm a master at it. I don't think you need to worry about getting blamed for it, that's a common misconception, though. You're not alone... I first encountered Misplaced Pages at my high school several years ago, and someone in our lab had vandalized an article, so the school had recieved a warning, much like the one you got before logging on. Oh man, did that ever freak me out!

Usually, editors (you got that term right ;) sync messages on talk pages, so as to avoid 3rd party confusion when they read the new messages. What I'll end up doing is just copying-pasting our entire conversation over to my talk page so the same copy exists on both. I wish that particular system was a bit easier to use, but unfortunately it is how it is.
Basically, anything goes, as long as you don't vandalize. There are a few other conventions, which you will learn, with time. For example, when editing a page, we use what's called Wikimarkup to edit pages, and create fanciness, for lack of a better word. (I'm a little too tired for this, right now...) Wikimarkup, is, quite frankly, another language. It's quite difficult to master, and is easier than HTML, per se, but it's definitely not a cup of lemonade on a hot Texas morning. I do see that you've figured out how to sign your talk pages, way to go.
  • One good way to start out on Misplaced Pages is to go on a vandalism patrol or to find a wikiproject in a subject area that you are interested in, and start editing. Personally, I tend more towards the anti-vandalism movement, but both are definitely necessary for Misplaced Pages to exist. Let me know what you're interested in, and next time I'm back on, I'll do some searching and explaining for you! Until then, Best of luck! Locriani 06:33, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Script error or human error?

Thanks for fixing my little revert problem on the article Fascism. My javascript is screwy today... :D Locriani 21:02, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. You should look into whether this edit of yours was a script error or just a mistake on your part. Jkelly 21:02, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Definitely a script error. Time to reboot. Thanks, again!! Locriani 21:05, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Question

I am assuming this was an error, but I reverted some vandalism and then you reverted it right back to the vandalism . Was this an error? IrishGuy 00:33, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, yes. My scripts are messing up again. Sorry about that, and thanks for catching it! (I didn't double check as I should have...) Locriani 00:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

It's no problem at all. Things happen. I just wanted to check with you and make sure. IrishGuy 00:36, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks again! Locriani 00:38, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Speedy Deletion of List of media personalities who have vandalised Misplaced Pages

Re your message: If you look at the deletion log of the article, you will see that I deleted the third creation of the article. The third creation contained no content and was noted as such in the deletion entry. The first deletion was a redirect when the article was moved to Misplaced Pages:List of media personalities who have vandalised Misplaced Pages, which moved again to Misplaced Pages:Editing of Misplaced Pages by the media. The second was deleted for nonsense. So I'm not sure why you left me the message you did. -- Gogo Dodo 04:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
