Edit conflict

Well my buddy EncMstr scooped me on the welcome message, but...

Yay! Welcome aboard bro! Let me know if you have any questions--people seem to think I know my way around here pretty well and I have managed to not piss too many people off so far. :) I don't know how you feel about userboxen but feel free to grab the Manx one I made. And of course we can always use more help at WikiProject Oregon, especially on the political stuff. (Come...come...do not be afraaaaid! Mwahahaha!) See you around the wiki! Katr67 19:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

P.S. There are some nifty vandal-fighting tools you can add to your monobook that are very handy for the gnomish sort... Katr67 19:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

(Didn't want the welcome to be biased, nor an inside job. :-) —EncMstr 19:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Doh! Darn that conflict of interest! Nothing to see here, move along... :P Katr67 19:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Hints

Hey I was stalking you seeing what you've been up to (and I can't figure out a way to say that without ending in a preposition), and I noticed that you warned a user about his copyvio/vanity article. Thing is, you put a notabilty tag on the article, but told him you had added a {{db}} (speedy). I suspect the thing will just sit there. It might be speedy-able, but first try a {{prod}} tag--that will make it go away in 5 days if uncontested. If contested, then go for the wonderful world of an afd... Oh, and though it's tempting to call things "badly written", some people think stuff like that is a wee bit uncivil. Feel free to tell me to mind my own business. Civilly, of course. :P Katr67 00:42, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

See how it looks now. Better? Point taken on civility...but it's extremely tempting after editing an article to make it look like it was written by someone whose first language is English... and I'm the MATH geek in the family.  :-) Finngall 01:35, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Yup, that's the way to do it. :D Good luck! Katr67 01:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

That 08 Editing guy

Yeah.. sorry bout that, I live close to Boise and I am a Beaver fan. I just hate the broncos because they're jerks. So I lost control. Sorry. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hackthecows35 (talkcontribs) 23:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC).

subst:

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. REDVEЯS 20:48, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Two points:
  • 1. I've generally only left out the subst: text when it seems redundant, i.e. if someone has already been warned with {{subst:uw-vandalism1|foo}}, {{subst:uw-vandalism2|foo}}, and {{subst:uw-vandalism3|foo}}, then I would have assumed that {{uw-vandalism4}} would be sufficent if they're still vandalising the same page.
  • 2. I'm curious as to why leaving out the subst: increases server load. That seems backwards to me.
In any case, thanks for the advice. Finngall 21:31, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
When you put a non-subst: {{template}} on a page, every time that page is loaded the server gets a brand new copy of the template from the original.
If you put subst: in front of the name, the server makes a one-off copy direct to the page and never goes back to check again.
If you leave subst: off, you're not preventing redundancy in any way. But you are slowing Misplaced Pages down every time the page is reloaded. A subst: (which means "substitute") stops that happening, uses no more bandwidth than would have been used by a single viewing of the page and helps prevent vandals trying to track down the template in order to vandalise it.
As a rule of thumb, always subst: unless the template is being put on an article. Misplaced Pages:Template substitution has more advice, but please ask if I can clarify anything. Happy editing! REDVEЯS 22:06, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, got it. Thanks again. Finngall 22:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Careful!

Hi, Finngall. Thanks for reverting the vandalism to the article Criticism of Misplaced Pages, but in this edit you failed to notice that although you restored the sections the vandal had removed here, you didn't restore the sections the vandal had removed here. I reverted to a version before the first vandalism, and then restored the edits made subsequently. It's not a big deal, but try to be more careful when reverting vandalism in the future. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 05:23, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm usually better about checking these things. Take care. Finngall 02:28, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

IVANHOE (software)

I Db'd it, because it has 1 g-hit, and it was from IVANHOE's own website. It seems like this is a product that is still being developed, and the article is just being posted more as an advertisement. I wasn't able to establish any notability. We'll see what the administrator thinks, if he/she doesn't think it should be a speedy delete, than it can go to AfD, because I'm skeptical. Size 14

You tagged me pretty fast boss!! If you look at the Size 14 talk page I included several links to show the bands notability. If you run the google test I think you'll see it also meets Misplaced Pages's requirements (if you can get past all the unrelated size 14 clothes and such). If you could please remove the speedy deletion tag. Thanks for patrolling new articles though and welcome to Misplaced Pages!--Twintone 21:32, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!--Twintone 21:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

David Vandervelde from divinevelocity

hey, fingall. sorry if i miswrote or published the article too soon. I researched the info on David a while ago because I wanted to know more about who wrote the music behind NOOMA's. If he didn't have a national tour and some albums, I can see how he might better be listed on the NOOMA page. The fact he stared in one of them (not by name), and is being nationally recognized more and more, I think lends significance. divinevelocity

I'll withdraw the speedy tag. Thanks. --Finngall 01:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
no, problem. i hit save too soon, i know. sorry to waste your time. --divinevelocity 01:58, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you mind???

I was getting to that! ;-) - CobaltBlueTony 16:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't make that page

I didn't make the page Adam Silver. That was my friend. He told me to make one of him, and that would be Mickey Levine. Sorry if I'm misunderstood, but do not declare false things. Thanks.PЄ|>ρ3® 00:44, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I've reverted that warning, and placed it appropriately. My apologies. Finngall 00:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Julie kirkpatrick

Hello Finngall, just a heads up that I removed your deletion tag on the Julie kirkpatrick artical and replaced with a Complete Rewrite tag. Real person that should be included...but I agree with you it VERY poorly written. Have a great day. Shoessss 16:04, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Problem is, unless there's a sex change that the article different mention, the article describes an entirely different person fron the one in the subject line.... Finngall 16:09, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Out of our hands now anyway.....deleted :-) Shoessss 16:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

My Apologies

I apolagize for the trouble students in my school have been giving you. The IP address 169.244.136.226. is that of my school, and, though I am not one of the vandals, I would like to cincerly apologize for the behaviors of my fellow peers, whether they are jerks or not. I just wanted to make sure that there are no hard feelings.

Heh. Anyone silly enough to venture into reverting Misplaced Pages vandalism (aka the largest Whac-A-Mole game in the history of mankind) would go bonkers in a hurry if they harbored hard feelings for every vandal that came along. Fuhgeddaboudit. Finngall 16:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: 1/4 + 1/16 + 1/64 + 1/256 + · · ·

This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content. You used the wrong speedy delete tag. But in any case, I wanted to let you know that I have contested the speedy, and if you are further interested, please see Talk:1/4 + 1/16 + 1/64 + 1/256 + · · ·. Thanks. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 19:22, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Looks like you already responded. Wow, you're fast. Sorry to bother you.--ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 19:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm just trying to follow Misplaced Pages policy too. I created those articles because they were redlinks in other articles on series. I'm going to propose a question about this to the math wikiproject. Thanks for raising the issue.--ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 20:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for catching the vandalism to my user page. You caught it so fast that I didn't even catch it until I saw the activity on my watchlist. Many thanks! Realkyhick 03:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Wait!Wait!

You can't be placing deletion tags everywhere without knowing the reason...if You see a developing article dont place tags on it please. Give the chance for other wikipedians to write about it too. Could You please remove the deletion tag in the Heroes Del Silencio Albums that you placed. User:EdwinCasadoBaez

Thanks
