Here is one (it was hard to find) WilliamKF 01:12, 27 March 2006 (UTC):

 http://www.futilityinfielder.com/dipsexpl.html

The formula comes from Voros McCracken via Jay Jaffe (jay at futilityinfielder dot com).

I think we can give $H exactly rather than estimate it:

$H = (H - HR) / (BFP - (HR + K + BB + HB)))

It seems this formula rewards the pitcher with a lower dERA whenever there is an error by his teammates (i.e. batter gets to first on a fielding error.) Does that make sense, I would think it should be neutral? WilliamKF 15:41, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I guess this is right since reaching first on error counts as an out in your batting average, so it should count positively for the pitcher. WilliamKF 00:01, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

In the text, I've added a link to McCracken's article on dERA, which was also archived by Jay Jaffe: http://www.futilityinfielder.com/dips2.html Mack2 02:05, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Is line 0 of the equation a typo? BFP, when multiplied by .0074, does not automatically equal the number of intentional walks allowed. In fact, it seems completely counterintuitve. Jorgath 04:43, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
