==Penwith organisation==

</p>
I've actually set up a page to organise how best to tackle improving the Penwith pages ], as a wikiproject - feel free to add your name to the list. there isn't much there yet as we haven't had much time to organise lists of things to do yet, but the idea is to write down a list of things that we think need doing and then divide them up so as to avoid editor conflicts, as well as bash out ideas for direction. I don't intend it to be a forum for constitutional matters! ] 08:12, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

== UK / England -Cornwall continuing thing ==
Hello Mark, thanks for the feed back left on my talk page - I will have a look at your suggestions in detail when I am not sneeking a peek at wikipedia at work!!! RE the NPOV business - Dont worry I will 'hold myself back' from being biased in Cornwall articles - I actually edited the Penzance article and added 'England' which has resulted in a bit of venom from a few friends of mine - Never mind eh!!!
I think most of the Cornwall articles need more content and less bias so I hope to at least have a go.
All the best Simon ]

I like the clarity that you introduced to the Falmouth article, these things sometimes need a new brain to untangle them. Just watch out for "the" definite article at the start of headings - ''The arrival of the railways'' in Wiki style would be more usual as ''Arrival of the railways''.

Hey, it's cool. You've been adding some great information. I just really like keeping things to format and being consistent. The WP standard is "when in doubt, using '&' instead of 'and'". For example, ] use "and" half the time and an ampersand the other half, but WP compromised on the ampersand. The Banshees usually use "and", I know, but not always: ], ], ], ], ], and some of the singles all use the ampersand. Also, the WP page for the band uses the ampersand, which was the deciding factor for me. Happy editing! ] 20:58, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I don't claim ownership of the ] article. It must be stated that, well, Siouxsie and the Banshee are well-referenced as gothic rock, from books about the gothic rock scene to Allmusic.com's listing on the band. I'm not saying they were exclusively goth either; obviously they released songs like "Kiss Them for Me". No band is forced to write material in one genre. And additonally, not every band is comfortable with being confined to a genre; the Sisters of Mercy hate being labeled goth and The Cure find it inappropriate. In fact, I'm surprised that the Banshees were removed from the paragraph rather than the Cure if anything, who are routintely criticized in the goth community for being a "pop band".

Sorry but in your wildest dreams did you seriously think anyone thought you were Steven Severin?
This is just embarrassing, whoever you are, in your post Banshees section you should have stuck to facts and not immaterial waffle. Perhaps you were a Banshees fan, but after reading your piece, I find it hard to believe you could possibly claim interest in his solo work. "As for Lummee, if he ever gets to see this" - GROW UP. What are you? A gormless star-struck fourteen year old.

Hallo Mark, I am delighted to see that you are still occasionally editing, as my enquiry relates to an article you created in 2006!
:Sign your name if you want an adult conversation. You have some good facts, but your writing skills would embarrass a 14 year old; you intended to write 'As for "Lummee, if he ever gets to see this..." '. What are you, then? The only keeper of the flame?] 14:13, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

You created ], which in 2009 was turned into a redirect to Breage. Today there was some discussion about ] which included mention of "when the place in Wales became a redirect", and I followed up out of curiosity and created a page for Carleen again over that redirect.
User name and real name were clearly included. As a music journalist of 30 years standing, can I now suggest that you please refrain from editing artist's factual contributions to their own page. From reading your work on wikipedia there seems to be some kind of Asperger's related disorder that does not make for clear reading. This website is about facts, please remember that.
(] 14:36, 29 April 2006 (UTC))

Your original stub gave the name derivation, but with no ref. Have you got a source for that? (I imagine a book of Cornish place-name origins beside your desk, optimistically). Please add it to the article, sourced, if you can. Thanks. ]] 22:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
:As a journalist you should be aware of the practice of asking questions of a source and then disseminating it - it is what you do for a living. I have indicated the sources I have used. I contacted Arban Severin to confirm the methodology in creating "Beauty and the Beast" since I thought it unusual enough to comment upon in the article, and wanted the information on the record. As an internet only label there are very few other sources I could use, other than one of the more established fansites which gets a great deal of its information from similiar sources.

::Doubtless I have had many Cornish name source books over the years, any of which may have contained an entry for Carleen... but none now close to hand. Most publications are local, and are unlikely to qualify as reliable sources. WP:OR will provide you with the name; "Car" meaning 'fort' or more likely 'defendable dwelling/place' and "Leen" (or "lene" or "lean") meaning 'Stone(y)', which is likely how the various authors have come to the translation. If ever I find anything which seems like a peer reviewed book or website I will endeavour to include it. ] (]) 16:06, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

I think many of Severin's fans would like to know why you have taken it upon yourself to remove several verifiable facts from people's edits of this page. Kindly replace them. You have removed the entry about Circa and Circus Songs that was factually correct and highly relevant. You removed the far superior piece about Woman in the Dunes.
You removed the interesting and verifiable comments about the timescale in Visions that was of interest to any fan. You removed Paul Burrows as the director of Nature Morte. You also appear to be putting a highly personalised opinion in this article regarding Arban/Steven's working methods. Forgive me, but this is how the majority of songwriting teams actually work. It comes across as gauche and frankly slightly insulting and has no place in this article. Also, was Arban made aware before she answered on the forum that you were compiling this page and would use her comments here as if she'd stumbled across a whole new way of writing music? And I hasten to add that you'd then proceed to disallow the extremely sensible edits made to the article as a whole? You must surely know that you've admitted many times you've not had enough interest in Severin's work to buy it so what right do you have to censor the people who do.

Okay, I am so angry about the sweeping away of sensible editing that I have made several re-edits. You claim status by being a poster on his forum, I know the man personally and stand by the accuracy of my statements. I notice that the Banshees material has been left untouched because you will notice not one of the complainants here would dream of editing work that they don't have first hand knowledge of. == Happy Holidays! ==
2) I have re-added the passage about Visions being expanded to 45 minutes from 18 minutes as this is an interesting fact. My direct source is the notes in Kidnap Garden.

3) I have re-added the piece about Circus Songs that directly relates to Circa. This includes Severin playing keyboards and producing and namechecks Martyn Jacques. My source is the notes in the booklet that accompanies Circus Songs. If you want real accuracy, three tracks 6,8 and 10 were not actually produced by Steven although he is credited as over all producer of the album. To even think of omitting Circus Songs from the page is verging on lunacy, please do not remove this again.

==Disambiguation link notification for February 24 ==
4) I have included the previous comment about Woman in the Dunes to replace yours, simply because I felt it was more culturally sound.
Kobo Abe has been discussed on the public Banshees forum without anyone there even realising that Severin had composed a piece based on his book! When *doesn't* Shakti improvise? You rarely see the exact same performance from her. Yes, the comment about Jarboe being ex Swans is relevant, as is the information that this premiered at the ICA. As all of this information was mentioned in the notes for Kidnap Garden, they are surely required information on this page.

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited ], you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ].
5) Re: Beauty and the Beast, here I added that Shakti is Indo/Japanese and not Japanese. As she grew up immersed in both cultures she is referred to this way. Her origin is relevant as her work is heavily influenced by Eastern traditions. I removed the reference to the Vasanta Mala Dance Company as you'd mentioned it previously and as she is more often than not a solo performer it seems like overkill. All this can be confirmed on her website.
Beauty and the Beast was originally commissioned in August 2003, this fact can be verified by Steven on his website (commisions section) I added the length of the piece. I also removed your Disney piece - I realise this came from a quote but I think it appears out of context unless you are going to add the source of the quote. Without the source it rather leaves readers thinking, "What d'you mean, Disney? Beauty and the Beast is an ancient fairytale and a film by Jean Cocteau, what's Disney got to do with it," Perhaps if you have to include it, word it differently???? As you deliberately removed quotes and opinions (sourced from interviews) from the previous person's work, kindly apply the standards you impose on others to yourself.

(].) --] (]) 18:00, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
6) I re-added the facts about Paul Burrows being the director of Nature Morte and that it was a psychological thriller. You can confirm this on the Nature Morte website. I think this establishes the direction Steven's work is moving in - new directors and sp-sp-spooooky films.

==Disambiguation link notification for June 1 ==
7) Added the little bit about Severin attending the same school as Bowie. Well, if sharing a flat with Jobbo is going to make the final cut - that might as well be in there too. Source was the official biography - Only trying to check the reference given, I can't find this anywhere in there so it's been removed again. While this does appear on Peter's fansite, it seems admissions of statements from fansites are disallowed. Billy Idol definitely attended Bromley Technical college, as did Bowie, perhaps Less Heard could pose the question on the forum if he feels it warrants inclusion.

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited ], you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ].
8) You might want to include some of the television programmes that have used Steven's music. In 2005 a documentary series "The Last Days of the Nazis" used excerpts from the London Voodoo soundtrack, "Your World & Mine" was definitely in there. From Maldoror, Prelude:Europa was also used. My source is Severin's website, it must have been around April time last year that he told us to look out for it. My partner was also a consultant on this series and can confirm the use of the music.

(].) --] (]) 17:56, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Then Prelude:Europa also appeared in a documentary called "The Flight That Fought Back" on the Discovery channel. I have no idea where to insert these bits. Maybe miscellaneous, the bit about the Guardian certainly looks better there.

==Disambiguation link notification for October 19 ==
9) You also removed the correction of 'St Teresa of Avila' as this is the form of the name used on the BBFC website (and in Nigel Wingroves interviews) I think this is the correct form to use and have restored it.

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited ], you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ].
10) Have also added to the Purifiers info, to include the two Severin tracks used. Otherwise the impression given is that a new score was used. Source is the notes from Kidnap Garden (as anyone who has been reading Severin's forum will know, ironically Arban and Steven did write a whole new soundtrack for the Purifiers but the two pieces of previous work were used)

(].) --] (]) 19:55, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
11) Added Jezebel - better give Eileen Daly a look in, I wonder if she's still with Wingrove? I wonder if Rollin is still alive and if the Story of the Eye will ever get made, there was such excitement about Steven possibly doing the soundtrack a few years back. (oops, forgot to add that all important source for anyone who hasn't actually been concentrating, who will not have remembered the piece about them on Steven's website, the single was called Persuasion I seem to recall)

== Invitation to participate in a research ==
I can't think of anything else to add at the moment. (Unless you want to go with TV appearances) Apart, that is, from another moan about the use of Arban's reply to you on the forum, I'm really bemused that you even view this as an unusual way for a composing team to be working - so much so that you would include it on a biography page as something "unique"
I'll also echo the views that musician's children do not usually have their personal details splashed on public websites and if you view the name of Severin's daughter as being more relevant than all the information you left out, I would be very disappointed. When Severin was asked for his childrens details by a much respected poster on Peter's forum, he did not choose to reply.

Hello,
I think you need to have a sensible attitude about the facts you've been provided with, there is no point having a biographical page about Severin that had his fans howling with derision. I think you should also make an attempt to follow the rules you are insisting others stick to.
Let's hope and pray none of the Banshees fans dare to start attempting to rewrite your Banshees info, you'd never be able cope, whatever you are putting out to the contrary.
Most of all I'd like to remind you is THIS IS ABOUT STEVEN SEVERIN, it is not about Mark Slater. Get over yourself.

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this ''''''.
This is unsigned, everyone on the fan forum knows who I am, it's unsigned because my only interest here is seeing Severin correctly represented, not in taking credit for anything.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its ] and view its ] .

Does anyone know Cage's birthdate? It would be nice to add it to the text confirming his existance. Also, Severin has (I believe) another child. Any details for biographical purposes '''only''' would be appreciated.] 22:54, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
:I found details per above, but upon consideration decided they were irrelevent to the piece. I have kept in Cages name since Severin has produced music in relation to John Cage, and Severin has confirmed that he was named for the composer.] 21:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

er no, it's not a squabble, this information is freely available on the internet search engines and is about an Artist's reputation. This is the very angry fan base who buy the solo work insisting that if this has to be done - it is going to be done properly out of respect for Steven. I think you'll find the gentleman who did such an excellent job of rewriting your efforts was on Severin's forums long before you!! (] 20:32, 29 April 2006 (UTC))

Yes he was, as was I. Look no further than this depressing debacle for the reason why the regulars abandoned the official forum for a more cerebral version. Rob's version came directly from Kidnap Garden but Less Heard doesn't even seem to be aware of this. (does he even have a copy?) My original post has also vanished. Many thanks to Rob for at least trying to be a voice of fans of the solo work and what they wanted. Also checkout the rudeness and obnoxious arrogance "Less Heard" got up to with the Raincoats, then shrug and walk away. The only person whose opinion really matters here.....well, we all know about that! (] 21:49, 29 April 2006 (UTC))

::Kidnap Garden was not generally available. I don't have a copy. Yup, I had an argument with various Raincoats - not the information, but the style. If you don't adhere to Wiki policy then it is likely that an article gets deleted by someone who doesn't know/care about the content. It is just a question of complying with the standard of the place. They "compromised", I had nothing else to add. I am having similar arguments regarding ]... Arrogance? Maybe. Why do I do it? Cos I care! So shoot me (oh yeah, you are!)

:This is how the article was before I started "fuddling" with it;] (check the "History" tab). I have contributed over 90% of the article as at my edits before this week; I don't mind having it re-arranged and added to - but having them butchered to suit someone elses viewpoint (and I work to Wiki NPOV standards) riles me. Subjective comments should only be made if the source is acknowledged, and that does not include fansites. It is a shame that none of you fans were up for expanding this article before I came along.] 21:03, 29 April 2006 (UTC) ps. Go on, click the link

"This does not include fansites" Er....where on earth did you get all your information from but a fansite? (you've admitted this elsewhere, where you ask people to come and look at this page) That is what Peter's website is - a fansite, it is not official. Rob's info came from Severin's own notes. You've removed information from Severins forum that we edited.
I'm now going to insist that you source every piece of creative writing you've added. Firstly, why are you referring to the Glove and students? Please provide direct sources, identify the quotes and remove all trace of personal opinion. Let's now see YOU behave with some professionalism.

'Fess up, time. I am not Severin*, but I do belong to his website (and TheBansheesAndOtherCreatures one) but hope that I have maintained a reasonable NPOV. *Lummee, if he ever gets to see this...!LessHeard vanU 00:21, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

And that, dear readers, tells you all you need to know. (] 22:07, 29 April 2006 (UTC)) Hmmm... a little jocular self puffing. Hardly criminal.] 10:34, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

:I can't be bothered, anymore. Did anyone click the link? I doubt it. Spelling mistakes, errors in transposition, errors in chronology, errors generally - I make them, but then if you don't make mistakes then likely you don't make anything. I don't mind people editing, I don't like being accused of misrepresentation. I changed this article from 2 short paragraphs to the format and much of the content it is now, one which can be added to and/or adapted. Fucking right I'm proud of it, and resent anyone trashing it (without any comment why). Whilst I used TheBansheesAndOtherCreatures as a source, it was in context of the interviews and articles held there - which are reputable - not the forums. It is all public domain. As has been pointed out, my knowledge and sources have been exhausted - so I will just keep an eye open for vandalism. As is, with EVERYBODYS contributions, I think it is okay.

:I also happen to think that the majority of the contents of this page is less to do with Severin and more my authorship of the expanded article. Certainly, none care to use Wiki procedure and policy in both editing or talk. I am now certain who the other parties are (the Aspergers comment was the first clue) and I am going to go back to my policy of non contact with same. I will move all this stuff to my talk page (with a link from there) so as not to discourage any future editor. It will be available if anyone does feel the need to write/read.] 10:34, 30 April 2006 (UTC) '''New from this point''' (but check dates - re answers and stuff... whatever).

Well, it is worth pointing out to you that no one is interested in taking credit for anything on the page, or for the time taken to see that Steven is properly represented here. You will notice that no one has taken this onto the forums (and let's face it, your comments on the BAOC forum could have led to some embarrassing scenes for you re: the Raincoats page) because no one is interested in embarrassing you in the wider Banshees community. The ONLY interest is in presenting the facts to show Steven in the clearest light - isn't that what every page here should be about? I think you know very well that there would be no vandalism of the page from Steven's solo work fans and friends, as it currently looks terrific and sensible suggestions seem to be being taken on board. Adding "eclectic" to the Glove section was PERFECT.
I'd also ask for caution regarding "knowing the other parties" as if you didn't instantly know the people who genuinely used their real names as usernames, there's a danger you are barking up the wrong tree. You were not present on the earlier Severin forums, there's much concern that you might be seeing Banshees/Creatures board posters where there are none and completely missing what the point of this whole row was about - the Artist's reputation and body of work. The Aspergers comment actually originated on a discussion about what can only be described as your behaviour re the Raincoats. Maybe you don't realise just quite how puffed up and utterly snide you do sound with the comments you are making on public forums. It never ceases to amaze me that people don't realise just how many non posters read forums. I sympathise after reading your personal details here but you've come across as pompous and way above yourself and just asking for someone to stick a pin in you. I think it is the sincere wish of everyone who has contributed to this discussion that your personal page is not sullied with angry people's perceptions of you. The only interest was "if it's got to be done, let's see it done properly" As this discussion now seems to have achieved the desired result in the post-Banshees section, is it even worth keeping? If you are going to continue with this hobby you might want to think about deleting unfavourable comments that were made when the solo work was patchy, so they don't reflect on future projects.
I hope this desire not to see you discredited by anything said here will convince you there was only one aim here. Again, please note that there was no comment made anywhere else and was contained here. I hope you will seriously consider deletion of anything detrimental to yourself now that some of that hot air seems to be subsiding.

PS Did you do a Budgie page? (not that anyone on our board would be able to comment with the slightest authority! But it only seems right.)

{{clear}}

:Last things first, the Budgie page was created in Feb of last year by another poster. I added to it a few weeks back (I joined Wiki this year) - to mention that Budgie played on ''Cut'' and with the Banshees since ''Kaleidoscope'', plus he was a co-founder of the Creatures not ''just'' a member. Again, my knowledge of the artist was exhausted at that point. If you want to see who has made contributions to an article click the "history" tab, it gives a listing of each update chronologically and (preferably) an precis of what has been done.

:Often an unsigned update with no details is a mark of vandalisation, and just as often someone will revert (take the article back to an earlier example) if it looks as if a previous edit has been drastically re-arranged. The premise is that any legit info lost will be re-submitted. It is not uncommon for vandals whose edits have been reverted to make disparaging comments in the talk page. Now, not every one who takes this path is a vandal - but it is a common pattern. If people sign or at least give an explanation then misunderstandings can be avoided.

:You seem to think that I should care if people think I am pompous and arrogant; well, obviously I don't go around shouting about it - but I have lived with the rep for over 40 years. Some people I get on with, and some I don't - that's life. Your perceptions of me are irrelevant. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and if I don't like it then I will (sometimes) say so. As for making comments on a forum, when shit starts getting flung then everyone gets hit to a greater or lesser degree. To some it may look like a bunch of bullies having a dig at the noisy old fart. With regard to clearing this from my talk page; after a month of it being not used then I will erase it. I wanted the facility kept available if required, and I really wanted it off Severins page (I don't know him to call him Steven) because of the potential damage all parties might do to another editor wanting info/help.

:To recap, if edits are done to Misplaced Pages Standard and Policy then there is less chance of misunderstandings. Talk pages are for discussion, not personal attacks. All '''contributions''' are made in good faith and to the best of the editors knowledge and ability. The edits you have made have improved the article, and other than ensuring proper links and "Wikifying" titles and such, I have no reason to alter anything.

:Finally, you don't like me and I don't care for you. I don't think any of us need lose sleep over that.] 20:23, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Carleen source?

Hallo Mark, I am delighted to see that you are still occasionally editing, as my enquiry relates to an article you created in 2006!

You created Carleen, which in 2009 was turned into a redirect to Breage. Today there was some discussion about Carleen (disambiguation) which included mention of "when the place in Wales became a redirect", and I followed up out of curiosity and created a page for Carleen again over that redirect.

Your original stub gave the name derivation, but with no ref. Have you got a source for that? (I imagine a book of Cornish place-name origins beside your desk, optimistically). Please add it to the article, sourced, if you can. Thanks. PamD 22:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Doubtless I have had many Cornish name source books over the years, any of which may have contained an entry for Carleen... but none now close to hand. LessHeard vanU (talk) 16:06, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
