In ''Ocarina of Time'', he is the watcher over (and perhaps the creator of) the child-like ] who live in ]. He is a great tree who holds the Kokori's Emerald. He looks after ] when he grows up, but gets cursed by ], for not giving him the Kokori's Emerald. Link goes and defeats the enemies inside him but it is too late. The curse kills him, but not until after he has told Link to find Princess Zelda at ].

After his death however, a new Deku Sprout appears, which presumably is the same tree Link comes across in ''The Wind Waker''.
