==Burkinabè NOT Burkinabé==
If you are thinking of changing "Burkinabè" to "Burkinabé" on the Burkina Faso wikipedia page, this is incorrect, do not do it. "Burkinabè" is not French. The demonym was created by Thomas Sankara and the suffix "bè" is Fulfulde. This demonym is invariant in number and in gender and is the only correct way to designate someone from Burkina Faso. Do not change it to the incorrect "Burkinabé" — Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 19:52, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello! I would potentially like to add a section to this page. Due to Burkina Faso having some of the highest levels of poverty in Africa, a rapidly-growing population, recurrent natural disasters, and the fact that it is landlocked, food insecurity rates in Burkina Faso remain consistently high. I think this article could benefit from a section discussing issues with food security. If you would like to see my sources, feel free to check out my page! ] (])

I am planning on discussing 3 main subtopics under "food security." First would be "Current Statistics" where I would provide information on the amounts of people suffering from food insecurity and health issues from that. Next is "Causes of Food Insecurity" in which I would include Geographic and Demographic causes, and Agriculture, Environmental Causes, and Household Income. Finally, I would include a section on "Approaches to Reducing Food Insecurity" in which I would talk about what organizations are doing such as the World Bank and the World Food Programme.

Here is a link to my full proposal. ] (]) 18:09, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

:Hi Courtwang, your new edits to the Food Insecurity section seem great. However, I do think you could do more by adding more information concerning the causes of Burkina Faso's food insecurity, like climate, civil unrest, or government policies. Including information about specific geographical areas where the food insecurity is particularly severe or information about the history of food insecurity in Burkina Faso might also be helpful. It would be nice to see some more peer-reviewed articles in your citations, and make sure all of your statistics are properly cited.
:
:I also think you could add more varied viewpoints in your subsection on "By the World Food Programme" in order to uphold a neutral point of view. It might help to talk about the actual effectiveness of the World Food Programme's programs.
:
:Also make sure all of your information is relevant to food insecurity (you have a couple facts that actually relate more to access to medical care), and a couple pictures would really enhance your article. Otherwise, great job! ] (]) 22:08, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

::Hi Courtwang - Here are my recommendations for this section. Be sure to define food security, even though you do provide a link to the separate page on the topic. Also, I would recommend expanding on the causes and background of how food security became an issue in Burkina Faso. I would also include the academic perspectives on the approaches to food security, rather than just the programs that exist. The statistics are great, and I think they provide a good sense of what the context of food security is like there. Keep up the good work! ] (]) 16:07, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

:: Hi again - Here are some tips for continuing to improve your section on food insecurity. Make sure to weed out redundant information in your section. It would also be great if you could expand on the structural causes of the global food crisis and the natural disasters that contribute to food insecurity. Additionally, it could be helpful to break up the causes of food insecurity in to separate social, economic, and environmental causes or something like that. Great job on your new contribution to this article! ] (]) 22:45, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

:Hi ]! Overall very good and comprehensive section on food security, however I would make sure you clarify a few things particularly what the Global Hunger Index is. There are a few instances in your section where you talk about something without defining first what that thing is which can make it more difficult to follow if you don't already know what is being discussed. Anyway, overall a very good section! ] (]) 00:05, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello. Just curious as to why the current demonym is Burkinabè and not Burkinabé, like I was previously led to believe. Is there a consensus on this? When was it changed? Who decreed this? I'm pretty sure that for a long time we used Burkinabé. Thank you! ] (]) 05:02, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

::It's not the official name by any means. Not in any legal document or any international organization that has the state itself as a representative. Also I did not claim Faso etymologically republic, I claimed it is used as a synonym. No news from Burkina Faso itself (not from the transitional government or state press) have made any announcement if they adopted any official name, which they should have done if they did just like they did when they announced their intention to revert to the old Sankarist motto as the official motto. ] (]) 23:01, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Separate article for 1984–1987

Does anyone here think we should separate the 1984–1987 era Burkina Faso into a new article??

Current GDP is 174th as sourced in the GDP page itself.

Some other nation descriptors are slightly outdated, all least concern just thought it was of note. 2601:204:EA7F:3CC0:9A54:B2DF:9C2E:1CE7 (talk) 08:57, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

I added the official name of Burkina Faso, People's Republic of Burkina Faso on the Lead per source. Wår (talk) 00:07, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

I see that Remikipedia has reverted this. The claimed etymology of "Burkina Faso" appears to be wrong. I believe "Faso" means "fatherland" or "homeland", not "republic".
The source provided seems to be reliable, so I support the inclusion of the new official name. But I do agree that it would be nice to have more than one source to back it up. TheLegendofGanon (talk) 20:04, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
It's not the official name by any means. Not in any legal document or any international organization that has the state itself as a representative. Also I did not claim Faso etymologically republic, I claimed it is used as a synonym. Example being the head of state, the president, is called the "Président du Faso" (https://www.presidencedufaso.bf). Even in the French article of Burkina Faso this is mentioned "D'après la Constitution du Burkina Faso, « le Faso est la forme républicaine de l'État ». No news from Burkina Faso itself (not from the transitional government or state press) have made any announcement if they adopted any official name, which they should have done if they did just like they did when they announced their intention to revert to the old Sankarist motto as the official motto.
