He is also the Non-executive director of Lotus bank and the president of Lubricant Producers Association of Nigeria (LUPAN).

Background and education

Muhammad was born in Katsina State, Nigeria. He completed his primary education at Gobirawa Primary School, Kano in 1977 and secondary education at Government Secondary School, Gwale, Kano in 1982. He later proceeded to study accounting at the Kano State Polytechnic's School of Management Studies, obtaining a National Diploma in 1985 and a Higher National Diploma in 1989.

Career

Birth of Ammasco

In 1997, Muhammad established Alhaji Muhammad Mustapha Ado Supply Company (AMMASCO), initiating his involvement in the lubricant industry. According to him, the founding of AMMASCO was influenced by his observations of the Nigerian automotive sector, where many vehicles emitted excessive smoke, attributed to the quality of imported lubricants. In response, he conducted research and experiments to develop lubricants suited to the needs of the Nigerian market.

AMMASCO became the first indigenous lubricant blending plant in Northern Nigeria.

Expansion

Under Muhammad's leadership, AMMASCO expanded into a conglomerate of subsidiaries, some of which are as follows:

  • AMMASCO International Limited: Specializing in lubricant manufacturing
  • AMMASCO Petrochemicals Company Limited: Focusing on liquefied petroleum gas and related products
  • AMMASCO Oil and Gas Limited: Operating in the oil and gas sector

AMMASCO International Limited has become a significant employer in Northern Nigeria, with about 3,700 full-time employees across its factories and offices.

In 2021, Former President Buhari granted brodacast license to Muhammad to operate radio and television stations across Nigeria as he started a new subsidiary named Ammasco communication limited.

Leadership in LUPAN

Mustapha Ado Muhammad is currently the Chairman of the Lubricant Producers Association of Nigeria (LUPAN) representing other lubricant producers like Mobil, Oando, Conoil, and others.

Under his leadership, he has prioritized increasing local production capacity to reduce Nigeria's dependency on imported lubricants.

Appointments

In 2017, Muhammad was appointed member of the board of the Nigerian Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council. The 36-member Council, was inaugurated and chaired by the then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In 2021, Muhammad was appointed non-executive director of Lotus bank.

Philantrophy

Muhammad organizes an annual empowerment programme for auto-mechanics in partnership with the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), some members of the association benefited from an all-expense paid training in London, Dubai, America, South Africa, and other countries. The empowerment initiative for auto-mechanics also includes the provision of tools and equipment for members across the country.

In March 2020, Mustapha Ado built, renovated, and commissioned a nine-classroom block at his alma mater, Gobirawa Project Primary School in Kano state.
