'''Discussion:''' ] | |||
Looking over pages for general elections, I'm have a slight caution about the "Seats Before" row in the infobox. Take ] for example: it lists Clann na Poblachta as having 10 seats before the election. However, Browne had left before the election, and from my memory of reading about the period, he wasn't the only one. The Fine Gael figure should be lower because of the death of ] and the resignation of ] (see ]). Last week I added a note of the vacancy in the ] from the appointment of ] to the Supreme Court in December 1936, which hadn't previously been accounted for. All of which suggests to me that the ''Seats before'' figure in various elections is unreliable, and in some cases inaccurate, relying on small amount of ]. FWIW, it's not a row used in ], etc., but I had drafted this comment here before noticing those as a comparison. ] (]) 15:37, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
] (]) 11:12, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
:I’ve considered this more, after checking each of these figures again. I’ve come to the view that between vacancies not filled and defections, the figure is unreliable, and it’s better to remove it entirely. Take another instance: Donnellan being expelled from FG in the ]. I added that last year, but it’s almost certain that there are other similar instances that haven’t been captured; even if 95% accurate, it’s not reliable, and should therefore be removed throughout the Irish election pages. ] (]) 12:04, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

I've submitted ] to Articles for Creation and would be grateful if editors could review it for appropriateness to be moved to mainspace, and secondly run it through to convert the bare URLs to proper references.

: Interesting. They're definitely getting airtime and some crowds of their own - I've bumped into them twice now as support acts too. I think the band may have achieved enough to make it, but must review the quality of published sources. Happy to share the review task. ] (]) 11:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

== Manual of style: legal citation ==
We should have a recommended style on ]/] for titles of articles on Irish case law. Over on ], you can see a lack of consistency in use of punctuation and abbreviations, and in the number of parties named. I could go either way on punctuation, but in most cases, one party only should be named on either side of the ''v'' (no need to include ''& anor''). If a case is reported in the Irish Reports or Irish Law Reports Monthly, our standard ], we could use the running title there as a recognised short title or common name for the judgment. Within articles, there are other matters of style to consider as well. ] (]) 09:03, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Related to the above discussion, but a separate matter, there are quite a few duplicate articles on the same case

Someone might want to have a look at them to see which is better to keep in each case, considering both content and the extent of article history. ] (]) 18:08, 8 August 2024 (UTC) |
