== How we will see unregistered users ==

<section begin=content/>
Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin '''will still be able to access the IP'''. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on ] to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can ]. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can ] to ].

We have ] this identity could work. '''We would appreciate your feedback''' on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can ]. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you.

Been a long time. Hope you are well. ] (]) 02:02, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

I know this is from over a decade ago, but I was looking at my contribution history and it made me think of the time when my browser was inexplicably censoring everything on your page and the page of ] and you ended up having to be in the middle of it. Not sure if you even remember it occurring, but I thought you might be interested in hearing an update all these years later because it was so bizarre.
== A barnstar for you! ==

Anyway, just for context, I was just short of 13 years old when that happened. Age-wise, I could see my parents maybe having some sort of filter on my computer, I'm pretty sure it was not some sort of computer virus. I never specifically asked them about it, my mom could get kind of reactive about things so I didn't want her assuming I was doing something inappropriate. The only thing I can think of on why it never recurred again is that they took internet away from that computer (for reasons that stretch outside of this conversation, nothing terrible though, mainly staying up too late and being lethargic at school) and they maybe never thought to do that again.

I understand your reasoning in reintroducing references to a 15-year-old controversy; certainly they are a matter of public record. I've had discussions back and forth with editors and have reverted vandalism from anonymous editors on this issue for the last few years. Here are my 2 main rationales for reducing the amount of importance given to the Kathmandu controversy in this biographical article.
|imagesize=50px

}}
1. It's something that happened long ago, that is no longer at the forefront of public discussion, and that ultimately led to no very satisfactory outcome for either side. So in an article that takes a broad look at the poet's life, it must be mentioned of course, but not overemphasised; and it's hard or impossible to find brief references which nicely balance the positive and negative arguments. A couple of references don't do justice to the complexity of the issues, so better to have none in my opinion (-but see point 2).
{{User QAIbox

2. The separate Misplaced Pages article on the ] tries to do just that: it is more comprehensively referenced and tries to give a fair and balanced account of the arguments on each side. That article is referenced with a hyperlink in (all) my edit(s). ] (]) 09:54, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

::I don't think you really mean that Bastun! It would overbalance the whole biographical article. But if there really is more material for the 'prosecution', albeit that the Irish police, the Nepali police and Interpol have all failed to find evidence of any crime having been committed, then I'd have no objection to it being added to the Kathmandu article. I would also be interested to see a proposal for reducing the 'defence' section. I think I'm right in saying that some of the article has material which is rather ambiguous, and which arguably could be moved into a third 'neutral' section, which might change the balance. However, at the heel of the hunt I would oppose anything which to my mind over-represents the relevance of the Fairytale of Kathmandu events within an account of this major poet's life and work. ] (]) 22:13, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

== IP block exemption ==

Hi Alison. The IP address at school was recently banned because ] checklogs showed that he was abusing several accounts, resulting in the IP address getting banned, and every time he goes on Misplaced Pages, the IP gets banned again. I was wondering if I could not be affected by this IP ban. I promise I will NOT abuse this privelage, as I have made many several significant contributions to Misplaced Pages, and the last thing I would want to do is harm Misplaced Pages in any way shape or form. My editing time is mostly at school, so it would be very useful if I could edit at home and at school. Thank you, Matthew. ] (]) 16:05, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

* Fine with whatever is chosen, though it's only a matter of short time before it's created. My goal here is/was to ensure the Wikidata entry is created and tied together to other Wikis (like ga.wikipedia, where I've created a placeholder category as it's redlinked from our own infrastructure as we're now in 2023). September music

Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display his portrait by Egon Schiele, music from Moses und Aron, and two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday ;) - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:03, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

CheckUser

Hello, I need some assistance. Currently, there seems to be an increasing number of "puppet accounts" (sockpuppets) on the Uzbek Misplaced Pages. To help identify and manage these accounts, I would like to request checkuser status. Abdufattohov Ibrohimjon (talk) 02:29, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:User en-IE

A tag has been placed on Category:User en-IE indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz 06:40, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

Weird Censoring Issue from 2011

I know this is from over a decade ago, but I was looking at my contribution history and it made me think of the time when my browser was inexplicably censoring everything on your page and the page of User:Jolly Janner and you ended up having to be in the middle of it. Not sure if you even remember it occurring, but I thought you might be interested in hearing an update all these years later because it was so bizarre.

It definitely was not malicious on my part, I was as confounded about it as anyone else, plus I curse like a sailor in certain environments so I am not against profanity as a rule. --Thebirdlover (talk) 05:24, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

  • Hey there, @Thebirdlover:. Yeah, it's been nearly 15 years since that incident. I can tell you what happened. Back then, I was an Oversighter, and had responsibilities for personally-identifying information and for children's privacy. Back then, you were a minor, and I was alerted to remove certain information from your user page for your own safety. It's usually done very discretely and even administrators can't see the edits. So that's what happened.
    • I know what the oversight issue was about (that was going back to when I started here), I was talking about this situation that you were involved in related to my computer haphazardly removing expletives because I was reminded of it and felt like trying to explain what was going on as best as I possibly could (even though I still don't completely know what happened). --Thebirdlover (talk) 02:15, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
      • Yeah, I had no idea what happened there, and still don't. It looks like there was some weird censorware on your computer, as it wasn't retroactively censored on the WP side, from what I can see - Alison 19:30, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
