ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Your revert on Ted Hughes
Regarding this revert, as stated in the Manual of Style section at Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Biography#Nicknames, a nickname is only included in quotes if "it is not a common hypocorism". This rule is observed at such featured articles as Charlie Chaplin, Alec Douglas-Home, Tom Driberg, Walt Disney, Tom Derrick, Bill Denny. Bob Feller, Terry Fox and many others. The formatting can be done done differently, as at Bob Dylan, but putting an obvious hypocorism (such as "Ted" for Edward) in quotes is generally not regarded as an option. William Avery (talk) 13:07, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
Your revert on Ninon de l'Enclos
I've restored my edit on Ninon de l'Enclos. The relevant policy is not WP:DICT but WP:LINK - unlike, for example, the word "author", the word "courtesan" is not a common word (see here for evidence), and it's reasonable to assume that many readers—particularly those whose first language is not English—would benefit from having the word linked. — The Anome (talk) 09:13, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- WP articles are not there to explain to people what common nouns mean. They can look it up in a dictionary. Anna (talk) 01:37, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
