			Hello and welcome to my userpage. My main contributions are on elections and referendums, largely focusing on countries outside the main anglosphere (as there are already enough editors covering those countries). I also do bits and pieces on political parties, politicians and football. As of early 2024, I had added around 7,700 articles to Misplaced Pages, of which around 3,700 are on elections or referendums, 1,400 on politicians, 1,100 on political parties, 720 on places, 300 on football, 300 on other politics, plus others on random topics like ] or ]. A more detailed breakdown of article types and the associated country is ].
	My main contributions to Misplaced Pages are articles on elections and referendums (at some point I will also create associated articles on the parties that contested the elections), non-League football and Israeli politics (although this sphere is now largely complete at least in terms of the articles being started, and whilst I have many article on my watchlist, I rarely make any edits other than to revert vandalism or fix other edits).

			I edit Misplaced Pages because I think everyone should be able to access the accumulated knowledge of humanity, and because I am interested in the topics themselves and enjoy the research and reading required to write the articles. I am very thankful for the existence of the ], in which I have probably spent thousands of hours, and should also note my thanks to Wikimedia UK, who provided me with a grant to purchase ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', which allowed me to create or improve ].
	==Why I edit Misplaced Pages==
	The main reason I edit Misplaced Pages is a strong belief that every person on the planet has the right to access the accumulated knowledge of humanity. Giving people access to this knowledge allows them to make informed decisions – one only has to look at how desperate repressive countries like North Korea are to stop their citizens finding out the truth to see how important it is. The even sadder thing for me is that access to the facts in a neutral, reliable and trusted source is still needed in the "free" world. I can think of no better example than the ] in my own country in which the ruling party and the majority of the mainstream media (which is supportive of it) colluded to run a campaign largely based on a lie.<ref>The Conservative Party claimed that changing the voting system to the ] would cost the taxpayer £250 million, and this was the primary campaigning tool for use on posters and was repeated almost unquestioned by all Conservative-supporting newspapers (which made up the vast majority of the printed press at the time). However, this figure included the £80m cost of the referendum (which was being held anyway) and £130m for electronic voting machines that would be required to introduce it. This was clearly a lie as Australia uses the same voting system but processes votes manually.</ref>

			As well as article creation, some of the more satisfying things I've managed to do on Misplaced Pages include:
	Many of the articles I write (particularly recently) are ones on which there is little online information, and are on topics that I feel are sufficiently important that the information should be available more widely (elections, for instance, are a key part of a nation's history). I should note my thanks to Wikimedia UK, who provided me with a grant to purchase ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', from which I have written and improved ].
			*Creating ] and writing several hundred of the linked biographies.
			*Creating updater templates like {{tl\|Israel populations}} or {{tl\|English football updater}} that allow thousands of articles be updated in a single edit.
			*Starting ] that led to election article titles changing from "]" to "]". This led to over 35,000 articles being moved after the RfC passed (thankfully via a bot).
			*(Sort of) figuring out how to use Lua to expand the {{tl\|Election results}} template created by ] to cover all types of elections (a huge thanks should also go to ] who helped on multiple occasions when I was stuck).
			*Adding the embedding function to {{tl\|Infobox election}} and {{tl\|Infobox legislative election}} that allows infobox stacking (like ]).
			*Completing various article sets – mostly full sets of national election articles, but also things like signatories of the Israeli declaration of independence, all people to have been a member of the Knesset or government minister in Israel, all registered places in Israel, all grounds to have hosted Football League matches etc.

			A few other interesting articles created after I stopped having the patience to go through the DYK process:
	Despite my beliefs about Misplaced Pages's role in providing neutral and reliable information, there are several areas that concern me. Due to a lack of will by admins early in Misplaced Pages's history, the issue of nationalist editors has never really been dealt with. There are several areas of the project which are almost no-go areas for outside/neutral editors, and many false consensuses have been built up by small groups of editors (usually around five people, which is sufficient to block progress on any attempt at outside involvement (the fatal flaw of the ] process being that it is not limited to outside editors). The areas I have come across which are particularly problematic are:

As well as the issue over birth places, one particularly stupid example I came across whilst working on election articles was ] - an election to the UK parliament that convention dictates should be United Kingdom general election, 1918 (Ireland). Unsurprisingly, a requested move was blocked more than once.

Where I've been

Hello and welcome to my userpage. My main contributions are on elections and referendums, largely focusing on countries outside the main anglosphere (as there are already enough editors covering those countries). I also do bits and pieces on political parties, politicians and football. As of early 2024, I had added around 7,700 articles to Misplaced Pages, of which around 3,700 are on elections or referendums, 1,400 on politicians, 1,100 on political parties, 720 on places, 300 on football, 300 on other politics, plus others on random topics like Eakabarere or Ulai Otobed. A more detailed breakdown of article types and the associated country is here.

I edit Misplaced Pages because I think everyone should be able to access the accumulated knowledge of humanity, and because I am interested in the topics themselves and enjoy the research and reading required to write the articles. I am very thankful for the existence of the British Library, in which I have probably spent thousands of hours, and should also note my thanks to Wikimedia UK, who provided me with a grant to purchase Elections in Europe: A data handbook, which allowed me to create or improve over a thousand articles.

As well as article creation, some of the more satisfying things I've managed to do on Misplaced Pages include:

Creating List of the first female members of parliament by country and writing several hundred of the linked biographies.
Creating updater templates like {{Israel populations}} or {{English football updater}} that allow thousands of articles be updated in a single edit.
Starting the RfC that led to election article titles changing from "Niuean general election, 2005" to "2005 Niuean general election". This led to over 35,000 articles being moved after the RfC passed (thankfully via a bot).
(Sort of) figuring out how to use Lua to expand the {{Election results}} template created by Ythlev to cover all types of elections (a huge thanks should also go to Frietjes who helped on multiple occasions when I was stuck).
Adding the embedding function to {{Infobox election}} and {{Infobox legislative election}} that allows infobox stacking (like this).
Completing various article sets – mostly full sets of national election articles, but also things like signatories of the Israeli declaration of independence, all people to have been a member of the Knesset or government minister in Israel, all registered places in Israel, all grounds to have hosted Football League matches etc.
