:{{ping|IndyCar1020}} There is nothing accusatory about use of the term "killing", which is just another term for homicide. A killing (or homicide) may be legal or not, depending on the circumstances. A killing in self-defence, in war or by state-sanctioned execution is legal. It is beyond doubt that Merzouk is dead, and that he died at the hands of police. It remains to be seen whether that killing was justified. If appropriate, the title will be changed to "Murder of Nahel Merzouk" if that is the judicial finding. For now, "killing" is the most correct term to describe the circumstances of Merzouk's death. ] (]) 05:14, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

You reverted my edit of "an unanimous" to "a unanimous". Why? I'm not a native speaker so I would be thankful if you could explain. As far as I know "a" changes to "an" if a vowel comes next. Thank you. --] (]) 12:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
</div> | |||
:{{ping|JonValkenberg}} It's not that simple. It depends on the '''sound''' of the vowel. Unanimous sounds like "you-nanimous" so it is preceded by "a". Just like one might say "a one-dollar bill" and not "an one-dollar bill"; one sounds like "won" and it too is preceded by "a". For further information, see . ] (]) 13:22, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

The voting phase of the October 2024 administrator elections has started and continues until 23:59 31st October 2024 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at ].
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
*October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
*November 1–? - Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone ] will have a week to use the ] software to vote, which uses a ]. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The ] are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the ]. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no ] ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the ]. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

== Elahi Bux Soomro, ''Daily Pakistan'' and mechanisms of death ==
Regarding your reversion of 05:38 today, I'd say this isn't a matter of me knowing ''better'' than '']'' or not. We're just in the businesses of relaying different information. Like all Deaths in 20xx contributors, I've been instructed to add a ] (if known). That parenthetical is rather important, as ] is not a cause of death, rather a mechanism. Roughly as tells us of cardiopulmonary arrest (same thing, but including lungs), it's only telling us that someone ''is'' dead, not why. I'm not asking you to revert yourself or anything, but if you could ''not'' restore the other four similar instances after learning this, that'd be cool. ] (]) 06:02, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
:{{ping|InedibleHulk}} We have had these discussions before, and I think we will have to agree to disagree. You have chosen to hang your hat on the Harris County definition, as is your right. There are other descriptions, however, including the following:
:'''Yale Medicine''': "Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops pumping, and is a leading cause of death in the United States."
:'''National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute''': "Cardiac arrest is a common cause of death."
:'''Johns Hopkins Medicine''': "Cardiac arrest can lead to death if there is no treatment within minutes. This condition is one of the largest causes of natural death in the United States."
:Anyway, at the end of the day, it's all about "verifiability, not truth", no? ] (]) 10:53, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
::The truth is I keep forgetting which conversations I've had about death stuff went down with which Death Regular and how. I know it was Ref I told last that ''he'' was getting cardiac arrest confused with ''sudden'' cardiac arrest (SCA). I bet that confuses a lot of people, familiar and not. In the public health/safety sense, SCA ''is'' a valid way to label CoDs. I think we're more closely analogous to coroners (or at least their clerks), but admit there's no consensus there and it's totally open to interpretation. In cases of ''sudden'' cardiac arrest, I have no issue with you (or anyone) saying so, so long as it's in that whole phrase. There's a fairly noteworthy circumstantial difference between someone suddenly dropping dead and anyone else normally gradually dying, similar results notwithstanding. I think verifiability and truth can coexist. Where they can't, though, yeah, verifiability always wins. Thanks for sharing! ] (]) 20:15, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

On 14 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Schoharie limousine crash, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the stretch limousine involved in the recent crash near Schoharie, New York, killing 20, appeared at two vehicle inspections earlier this year with different license plates? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Schoharie limousine crash), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. A beer for you!

Fame at last...
How does Misplaced Pages deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. No mention of me though:). Nice diagrams, and a quick look at the page histories of shooting incidents will show a core of regular editors.--♦IanMacM♦ 17:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Were you aware?
I assume that you have been made aware of this. But, in the event that you were not, I wanted to point it out to you and bring this to your attention. Your name was mentioned in this article: How does Misplaced Pages deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. Thanks. Joseph A. - @Bryan Krippner:Please direct me to articles where your inline links were reverted. Which editor did that? I will gladly restore your work if it was removed inappropriately. Regards, WWGB (talk) 10:52, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Administrator Elections: Voting phase
Administrator Elections | Voting phaseThe voting phase of the October 2024 administrator elections has started and continues until 23:59 31st October 2024 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Misplaced Pages:Administrator elections/October 2024/Voting phase.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
- November 1–? - Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies for a vote will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Elahi Bux Soomro, Daily Pakistan and mechanisms of death
Regarding your reversion of 05:38 today, I'd say this isn't a matter of me knowing better than Daily Pakistan or not. We're just in the businesses of relaying different information. Like all Deaths in 20xx contributors, I've been instructed to add a cause of death (if known). That parenthetical is rather important, as cardiac arrest is not a cause of death, rather a mechanism. Roughly as this forensic guide tells us of cardiopulmonary arrest (same thing, but including lungs), it's only telling us that someone is dead, not why. I'm not asking you to revert yourself or anything, but if you could not restore the other four similar instances after learning this, that'd be cool. InedibleHulk (talk) 06:02, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- @InedibleHulk: We have had these discussions before, and I think we will have to agree to disagree. You have chosen to hang your hat on the Harris County definition, as is your right. There are other descriptions, however, including the following:
- Yale Medicine: "Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops pumping, and is a leading cause of death in the United States."
- National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute: "Cardiac arrest is a common cause of death."
- Johns Hopkins Medicine: "Cardiac arrest can lead to death if there is no treatment within minutes. This condition is one of the largest causes of natural death in the United States."
- Anyway, at the end of the day, it's all about "verifiability, not truth", no? WWGB (talk) 10:53, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- The truth is I keep forgetting which conversations I've had about death stuff went down with which Death Regular and how. I know it was Ref I told last that he was getting cardiac arrest confused with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). I bet that confuses a lot of people, familiar and not. In the public health/safety sense, SCA is a valid way to label CoDs. I think we're more closely analogous to coroners (or at least their clerks), but admit there's no consensus there and it's totally open to interpretation. In cases of sudden cardiac arrest, I have no issue with you (or anyone) saying so, so long as it's in that whole phrase. There's a fairly noteworthy circumstantial difference between someone suddenly dropping dead and anyone else normally gradually dying, similar results notwithstanding. I think verifiability and truth can coexist. Where they can't, though, yeah, verifiability always wins. Thanks for sharing! InedibleHulk (talk) 20:15, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
