There seems a fair deal of confusion about namimg animals and plants. The normal convention is that English names of species begin with capitals, eg--], but groups are lower case and, usually, plural as in the ].


Hi Jim,
Binomial scientific names are written with a capitalised generic name and lower case specific name, '''Fregata magnificens'''. Higher taxonomic groupings are always capitalised.

As you rightly mentioned, conflict of interest (COI) is the problem. Is there a workaround? Do I get someone else to write about me or are there more ways to just about keep article neutral enough for publication? Can I trouble you to have a look whether if it's worth my time requesting for a retrieval of the deleted content for another try? Thanks.

What about raptor/raptors or bird of prey/birds of prey ] 14:54 Feb 14, 2003 (UTC). Some 40 group monographs advertised in a birders' magazine used the plural invariablly for the title, eg Owls of the World. It is standard practice to use the plural for groups, eg woodpeckers, and capitalised singular for species, eg Great Spotted Woodpecker ]

It seems to me that there is some serious confusion about the proper way to name birds (flora and fauna generally, actually), particularly with regard to capitalisation. I think it would be a good idea to thrash this stuff out once and for all at a suitable location, such as ]. If we can get the policy right by making some proposals, getting feedback and reaching general agreement, then it can become a general recommendation for all to be aware of.

If the links were redundant, it is the "Loon" versions that should go, since the "Diver" versions are the actual articles. My thinking in putting in the redirects is that an American or Canadian contributor might write redundant material if a search for, eg, Common Loon gave no result, not realising that editable material existed under ]. Thanks for your review on my recently created page for Mr. Lindholm. Mr. Lindholm is a friend and I will disclose that COI moving forwards. Before I request recovery for the draft, I have some questions.

Would you be able to provide some clarification on why the page was deleted for ]'':'' ]? Mr. Lindholm is still alive and the purpose of the article is to provide additional context and information behind the development of graphic processing units, in particular the GeForce 256 hardware T&L and GeForce 3 shader units, as these technological advancements were key to modern GPUs. I included numerous citations and kept the tone of the article objective to avoid bias. Would you be able to let me know which sections were not objective and require updates or edits?
Over here we have (I think) only four true thrushes, Jim: the European Song Thrush ''T. philomelos'', which is introduced but, in a gentlemanly way, restricts itself to a small area around Melbourne and blends in with the natives without fuss or bother; the Common Blackbird (of which the lesssaid the better!), the Russet-tailed Thrush ''Zoothera heinei'' which I know little of as it's range is well north of me bar that it's very similar to; the Bassian Thrush ''Z. lunulata''. I started doing a Bassian Thrush entry just now but then stopped again when I realised that it has a wide range - "PNG, se Asia, Siberia & eastern Europe" outside Australia and figured that you might be in progress with it.


Your help is much appreciated as I'd like to ensure that any future article on Mr. Lindholm is compliant with Misplaced Pages policies.
As a matter of interest, I saw one on Saturday, in a suburban Ballarat garden. They are normally very shy and stay in thick cover. The fact that one was poking around that garden only 3 or 4 metres away from three humans spoke volumes for the severity of the drought in the bush nearby. I think it might have been a very young one - it seemed quite fearless, and I am sure that it's somewhere inside a cat by now.

Most of our "thrushes" are actualy shrike-thrushes, family ''Pachycephalidae'', including the Grey Shrike-thrush, ''Colluricincla harmonica'', which manages to be a direct competor with the Blackbird in two senses: (a) food & habitat, (b) song - the Grey Shrike-thrush never fails to amaze us with its volume, melody and variation. Bar lyrebirds, he's probably the best singer in the country. (The little Golden and Rufous Whistlers, pound for pound, are louder though. (Same family.)

Guanghua Li is a photographer, I like her children's pictures and that's the reason I create this page.
Jim, you are doing a great job on the bird entries. I saw your plea for a little help on the New World species. That's not my area I'm afraid, but I certainly intend to add some more Southern Hemisphere ones (I've done three or four so far). Might not be right away though. I seem to average just one or at most two substantial entries a day, and I'm doing a series of aircraft ones right now. But don't feel discouraged! ]


Would you be able to provide some clarification on why the page was deleted? The purpose of this entry is to introduce her briefly. There are many reports about her in Chinese. I already remove some personal description words and write it neutrally.

I had to do some research, what "Thorburn" could mean, but now I found out ;-) No, they are not, the pix are from a German field guide ("Naumann, Naturgeschichte der Vögel Mitteleuropas", 1905). You find all public domain images on this page: http://www.biologie.uni-hamburg.de/b-online/birds/naumann.htm. There is also an index of english bird names on that page: http://www.biologie.uni-hamburg.de/b-online/birds/regengl.htm. The important thing is that we don't try to describe the birds themselves here (there are plenty of other pages to do that in), but try to describe the terms. Why is this bird called a "kite", while that one is a "harrier"? Sort of a glossary, I guess. ]

It seems that the official Australian & NZ list agrees with the South African one, but the Americans (as we know) are quite different, and I can't seem to find an English one. has a link to the current Oz & NZ list (in PDF form) and is useful too. COI workaround?

Hi Jim,

Got your message, thanks. First article attempt got deleted. Probably quite common. Still sad.

As you rightly mentioned, conflict of interest (COI) is the problem. Is there a workaround? Do I get someone else to write about me or are there more ways to just about keep article neutral enough for publication? Can I trouble you to have a look whether if it's worth my time requesting for a retrieval of the deleted content for another try? Thanks.

You have an obvious conflict of interest, please read independent verifiable sources (sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them), the notability guidelines, promotion (articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews) and paid editing. Request for Review of Deletion of Lindholm Misplaced Pages Page

Thanks for your review on my recently created page for Mr. Lindholm. Mr. Lindholm is a friend and I will disclose that COI moving forwards. Before I request recovery for the draft, I have some questions.

Would you be able to provide some clarification on why the page was deleted for U5: Misuse of Misplaced Pages as a web host? Mr. Lindholm is still alive and the purpose of the article is to provide additional context and information behind the development of graphic processing units, in particular the GeForce 256 hardware T&L and GeForce 3 shader units, as these technological advancements were key to modern GPUs. I included numerous citations and kept the tone of the article objective to avoid bias. Would you be able to let me know which sections were not objective and require updates or edits?

Your help is much appreciated as I'd like to ensure that any future article on Mr. Lindholm is compliant with Misplaced Pages policies.

Follow up on ZKH Industrial Supply page

Thanks and well received the latest feedback. I will adjust the content accordingly.
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to create promotional content for the organisation, I just want to write some existing facts about the firm so that audience can have more visibility about the company when they search it. The company is a Chinese firm and has listed on NYSE since 2023. Currently most of third-parties (like news) are from local and not in english language, I wonder if that's acceptable if I use them in citation? And is there a minumum number of reference needed?
Besides reference issue, regarding the latest edits, are any other parts that I need to adjust my wording?
