Lower Bar is a street and suburb of Newport in the Telford and Wrekin borough in Shropshire, England. It is located within the Newport civil parish. It is located adjacent to north of Newport town centre. It lies close to the crossroads of Salters Lane, Water Street, St Mary's Street and High Street.
History
The area has seen many changes throughout its existence and history. Notable events include The street and area form the northern section of the main town centre and has existed as far back as 1890s or earlier. It saw demolition of many houses in the 1890s and 1910s to make way for the Swan Inn car park. Additional demolition of shops in Lower Bar were also demolished in the same time period for a petrol station. The area is now a busy commercial and residential area of the town.
Geography
Lower Bar is directly in the north of Newport and near the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal. It is also close to the suburb of Chetwynd End. It is also not far from the Chetwynd Park estate and Chetwynd Park.
Transport
There is are regular buses between Newport, Shrewsbury, Wellington, Telford and Stafford that pass through Lower Bar.
