Sharanabasaveshwar Samstan and Mahadasoha Peetha has a glorious tradition and history of more than 200 years. It was established by the great saint of the 18th century Sri Sharanbasveshwar. So far nine Peethadipati have ascended the throne- the Peetha. They have rendered unprecedented and unparalleled service to humanity to emancipate and enlighten common masses in the social, religious, spiritual, and educational fields of this region. The glory of Peetha is carved out and reverberates in the hearts of the people of this region.

·Saint Sharanabasaveshwar was the pioneer and first Peethadipati from 1746-1822

·The present Peethadhipati Poojya Dr. Sharanabaswappa Appaji is the 8th Peethadhipati who ascended the Peetha in the year 1983

== Philanthropist: ==
Poojya Appaji is a renowned humanitarian and philanthropist. Every day hundreds of devotees and common people meet him and seek his Darshan. They walk in with their various kinds of problems and prospects – emotional, intellectual, familial, financial, religious, spiritual, mystical, social, physical ailments, and so on. Appaji interacts with each one of them. He provides a viable, amicable solution and settlement to the most intrinsic issues faced by people. He is such a generous man, who wants youth to shape their life during students’ days. Therefore, he is a pioneer and frontrunner to extend Anna Dasoha and Jnana Dasoha to many people in this region.

Poojya Dr. Appaji has a missionary zeal to disseminate the noble ideas and ideals of Shivasharanas of the 12th century all over the world. To accomplish the task, he met the speaker of Lokasabha, the Prime Minister, and the President and convinced the relevance of the vachana literature of Basavadi Shivasharanas. He succeeded in installing an 18-foot bronze statue of Basaveshwar at the 9th gate of Parliament Bhavan on April 28, 2003.

Poojya Dr. Appaji is an ardent lover of Kannada language and literature. He had shouldered the mammoth reasonability of organising the 59th Akhil Bharat Sahitya Sammelana during the year 1989 which was held on the campus and playground of Sharanabasaveshwara Vidya Vardhak Sangha. The hospitality extended by Appaji was very much admired and appreciated by office bearers of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and luminaries of the literary world.

           •           Poojya Dr. Appaji was nominated unanimously as President of the Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Sammelan held at Belagavi.

           •           Appaji is a patron of literary artists, besides being himself a great poet of eminence. The poetic talent germinated in his tender age. All India Radio Hyderabad organised a competition on composing poems for children in 1948. His Poem “Pencil” was considered the best poem by the jury. During his student life, he has written many scholarly works on Veerashaiva philosophy. Of them, his “Shatsthala Siddhanta” is quite noteworthy.

He has composed “Dasoha Sutras” on the model of Brahmasutras of Sanskrit literature. It is considered as a unique genre of poetry. Originally, they were written in the Kannada language. They were set to music by the great music director of South India Vijaya Raghavan, and sung by the famous playback singer Vani Jayaram. They were recorded into cassettes and CDs and became household songs among devotees. After considering their merit, the well-known Kannada writer and scholar L. Basavaraju and American poetess Judith Kroll in collaboration translated them into English. Besides the English version of Dasoha Sutras, they were translated into Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu languages. Being a poet and Philanthropist, he is a fountainhead of inspiration to many budding poets and writers hence he could publish their literary works from his organisation.

March 2007

I like that Login and Logout were merged, but "Logging" is an ambiguous name since "logging" by itself normally refers to data logging. Beyond Authentication and Password issues this is really a dictionary entry anyway ("log in" vs "login", etc.) Quarl 2007-03-07 14:34Z

As a software engineer I can't say that I've ever heard of anyone referring to "logging in" as simply "logging." "Logging" on its own has always meant one of two things, data logging or logging, i.e., what one does with trees. (The original confusion for the name of this article may have come from the actual term "logging in" or the word "login" which sounds similar to "logging.")

Instead of the current article name I propose this article to be renamed to something else, possibly to "logging in" or "user authentication process (computer)" (discussing "logging in" and "logging out") or something else but not "logging." (There may already be a suitable article that the log-in/out process could be merged into.) Finally, "logging" should redirect to a disambiguation page (listing data logging and logging and possibly "logging in (computer)" or whatever this article ends up being called). -Andreas Toth (talk) 00:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok I seem to understand the difference in Login and log in. What about Login ID? Can you use that in place of Username (or is it User Name?), or would that not be a correct term. I know I've seen it all over, but it doesn't mean it's right.

Where did the term come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.86.151.246 (talk) 18:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I moved the page to login per above comments and WP:NAME. There is no reason why logout can't be coverd under this title.--agr (talk) 10:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Adjective vs. noun

I challenge the use of the term login as a noun. It could lead to confusion. Login should be used as an adjective. For example, a login problem or a login procedure. Consider the following sentences:

Incorrect: Sir, I lost my login (n.) today. Can you help me? Correct: Sir, I lost my login (adj.) information today. Can you help me?

I added adjective to the text, but noun use exists.-agr (talk) 10:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Verb form

The article currently suggests that the verb form of "login" is always "log in". While I certainly see the logic, popular usage doesn't seem to mirror this assertion.

Compare "Please login" (59 million results) with "Please log in" (20 million results). Of course, searches of "login to" and "log in to" show popular usage favoring "log in".

In the end, it looks like both verb forms, "login" and "log in" are popular. As such, I've added a request for citation in the article body, simply that the article can demonstrate conclusively that "login" as a verb, while extremely popular, is definitely wrong (if it in fact is). Merreborn (talk) 01:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

There's a good explanation here. Don't know whether or not it qualifies as citable but I was convinced. WombatDeath (talk) 18:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Exploitation or Vulnerabilities

There should be some explanation or trying to pointing towards a section on the exploitations and vulnerabilities of login structures? Seems to be a big miss. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.18.183.188 (talk) 18:58, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

"Login" as a verb

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/login indicates that "login" can be used as a verb (e.g. "Login with your new password.") but also states "Many who are neither professionals in the computer field nor amateur tech enthusiasts decry the use of the solid form LOGIN as a verb, and with reason. It doesn’t behave like a normal verb. You cannot say you have loginned, and you are never in the process of loginning." Is this a case of so many people using the word incorrectly that it is now acceptable usage? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:02, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I wonder wherefrom the definition comes

I wonder wherefrom the definition comes. Both OED and Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English define login as a procedure of logging in, not as credentials being produced during the procedure.

I have heard some people referring to username (but never to both username and password) as "login" but I believed it to be just a slang usage. Maksim Otstavnov (talk) 12:29, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Etymology

Fernando Corbató wrote the first password authentication for CTSS and chose "LOGIN" as the command. I suspect that choice reflected his having served in the Navy.
