The Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra is a composition for solo piccolo and orchestra by the American composer Amanda Harberg. It was commissioned by piccoloist and Philadelphia Orchestra chair Erica Peel to be an addition to the instrument’s limited repertoire. The work received its premiere in Verizon Hall in 2022 as part of the Digital Stage Series by the piccoloist Erica Peel and the Philadelphia Orchestra under the conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Composition

The concerto is structured into three contrasting and colorful movements as follows:

  1. Allegro
  2. Moderato, dreamy
  3. Vivace

Reception
