Saadat Khan Swati was the first ruler of Pakhli (1762-1780), during the reign of Durranis. One of his sons, Najeebullah Khan Swati, was martyred in the famous War of Mangal against the Sikhs. The family of Saadat Khan ruled this area and contributed a lot to the development of the area. He was conferred upon the title of Khan of Garhi by Swatis of Garhi and confirmed as such from the Durrani Court of Ahmad Shah Abdali. Saadat Khan built a fort which he named Garhi Saadat Khan after his death Habibullah Khan became the Chief of the Swati tribe and the fort consequently got famous with his name as Garhi Habibullah. | |||

Garhi Habibullah Khan is a small city and union council (an administrative subdivision) of Mansehra District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is named after Khan Habibullah Khankhail Swati, the Khan of Garhi and Chief of Swati tribe from 1810 to 1830. It is located in Balakot Tehsil and lies to the east of district capital Mansehra, towards the Kashmir frontier (near to Muzaffarabad the capital of Azad Kashmir). It was affected by the 2005 Kashmir earthquake.
Garhi Habibullah is basically divided into 5 separate Khanates. 1) Khanate of Samundar Khan Khankhail Swati, Khanate of Habib Khan Jehangiri Swati, Khanate of Ameen Khan Jehangiri Swati, Khanate of Hassan Ali Khan Arghushal Swati and Khanate of Behram Khan Sarkheli Swati.
