During Smith's season on ''The Real World'', she came into conflict with ] over views he related to Smith from his uncle, who opined that African-Americans were slow. Although Mizanin attempted to disown the comments as merely those of his uncle, Smith and their other housemate, Malik Cooper, were offended. Coral and the other housemates went on to teach Mizanin about African-American culture, such as the life of ].

On ]'s ''Real World: Back To New York'', Coral Smith and ] had a rocky relationship, with Smith often behaving antagonistically towards Mizanin. Ironically, she won her first challenge with Mizanin as her partner. As between the two shows, Smith and Mizanin have had a rollercoaster relationship, going back and forth between being friends, enemies, getting along, and not getting along. On the ''Challenges'', Smith didn't withhold her antagonistic side that was shown in the ''Real World: Back to New York'', as she has had it out for various cast members and has used tactics that eliminated them, throughout different seasons. Two prime examples of this, were with ] cast members, ] (on ] in 2003) and Julie Stoffer (on '']'' in 2004). Coral's feud with Julie was perhaps one of her most heated feuds, on these reality shows. The Real World: Back to New York & Real World/Road Rules Challenges

On MTV's Real World: Back To New York, Coral Smith and Mike Mizanin had a rocky relationship, with Smith often behaving antagonistically towards Mizanin. Whether it was ridiculing Mizanin and getting everyone to laugh at him, criticizing him (how he didn't knock, how he treats his friends), embarrassing him in front of his friends, etc., Smith always found some way to single out and pick on Mizanin. Since the Real World: Back to New York wrapped up in 2001, Coral Smith has gone on to compete in various seasons of The Real World's spin-off series, The Real World/Road Rules Challenges. Lasting to the end of several Challenges, she has become known as one of the stronger female competitors on the show. She became known for using her brains and assertiveness, to making it to the end of the Challenges. Ironically, she won her first challenge with Mizanin as her partner. As between the two shows, Smith and Mizanin have had a rollercoaster relationship, going back and forth between being friends, enemies, getting along, and not getting along. Coral's feud with Julie was perhaps one of her most heated feuds, on these reality shows. In fact, they both reportedly had issues with each other, once the show went off the air.

Facts

Smith won her first Real World/Road Rules Challenge, with Back to New York cast mate Mike Mizanin. She has been in five Challenges in all and has made it to the end of four. She was eliminated on Fresh Meat because her partner Evan developed an abdominal (athletic) hernia which progressed to a serious stage with internal bleeding, this he kept secret from Coral during the challenge. Smith sustained an injury to her knee also but after treatment, she was cleared for competition by her doctor. However, Evan's hernia was so severe that further competition was impossible and since this was a partnered event, when Evan became disabled, Smith was left without a partner and was thus disqualified from continuing with the competition. Evan has since had two surgeries to correct his hernia and has gone on to compete again in a subsequent MTV challenge.

Smith's latest reality show deputed on the Fox network in January 2007 on Burton Roberts’ series Camp Reality.

Relationships

Much curiosity and speculation has arisen over Smith's relationship with Abram Boise from Road Rules: South Pacific during Battle of the Sexes II. In response to a question by an MTV rep, Smith said:

"I wouldn't expect Abram to invest his time or pursue a woman like myself, that's so mouthy and such a feminist I believe that I'm a strong woman and I believe that a lot of my morals and how I live my life was completely opposite than his. Never, and people underestimate him all the time."

— Smith,

However, according to another interview with Smith, the two were not involved in a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship and that it was only made to look that way on television to get good ratings.

Personal life

Smith is best friends with The Real World: New Orleans cast mate Melissa Howard. They both participated on Bravo's Battle of the Network Reality Stars.

Coral was present at Gay Day, an annual event set at a theme park in the Bay Area. Smith reportedly answered questions, concerning why she was present at Gay Day, with the comment that her sexual orientation was "very cloudy" and that she was "venturing toward lesbian qualities". OUTlook is a monthly tabloid entertainment magazine that serves the gay community.
