You have the audacity to talk about protecting families and children from the homosexual menace, while you yourselves tear apart families and drive children to despair. I don't know why my son is gay, but I do know that God didn't put him, and millions like him, on this Earth to give you someone to abuse.

Picture of the day Reduced Gravity Walking Simulator The Reduced Gravity Walking Simulator was a facility developed by NASA in the early 1960s to study human movement under simulated lunar gravity conditions. It was located at NASA's Langley Research Center in Virginia and was designed to prepare astronauts for the Moon landings during the Apollo program. The simulator was tilted at a 9.5-degree angle from the vertical and test subjects were suspended on their side by cables at the same angle. This set-up allowed the trainees to walk along the surface while experiencing only one-sixth of Earth's gravity. It was also used to study the physiological effects on the astronaut's body during movement. In total, 24 astronauts used the simulator to train for lunar missions, including all three astronauts of the Apollo 1 mission. This photograph, taken in 1963, shows a test subject being suited up by two technicians on the Reduced Gravity Walking Simulator.Photograph credit: NASA ArchiveMore featured pictures...

George E. Mylonas (1898–1988) was a Greek archaeologist of ancient Greece and of Aegean prehistory. He excavated widely, particularly at Olynthus, Eleusis and Mycenae, where he made the first archaeological study and publication of Grave Circle B, the earliest known monumentalized burials at the site. Mylonas was born in Smyrna, then part of the Ottoman Empire, and received an elite education. In 1924, he began working for the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. He took part in excavations at Corinth, Nemea and Olynthus under its auspices. He studied and taught at universities in Greece and the United States. He was prominent in the Archaeological Society of Athens and in efforts to conserve the monuments of the Acropolis of Athens. He had co-responsibility for the excavation of Mycenae's Grave Circle B in the early 1950s, and from 1957 until 1985 he excavated on the citadel of the site. His excavations at Mycenae have been credited with bringing coherence to the site. (Full article...)

Living Memory LGBT History Timeline from Trans perspective

A possible resource. Transgender Aging Network has launched a project - Living Memory LGBT History Timeline to assist with aging LGBT folks "It is impossible to tell without asking someone precisely which public events shaped their lives, but knowing what was likely reported in newspapers and discussed at dinner parties during a person’s lifetime may help you understand how their worldview was shaped. To offer insight into the concerns, lifestyles, and belief sets of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people who are now 50 and older, the Transgender Aging Network has constructed the following timeline showing how old they would have been when there were critical events or changes in the lives of LGBT people." Starting with the 1920s the events list can be cross-referenced with current GLBT timelines and used as a possible stepping stone to aid Trans projects and awareness. Jane Roberts, the wife of John Roberts, was a volunteer member of Feminists for Life's board of directors from 1995 to 1999. She has provided legal assistance to the pro-life group and been recognized as a contributor who donated from $1,000 to $2,500. She has written for a newsletter for a pro-life group called 's newsletter, including an article about adoption. Roberts and her husband have adopted two children. Source: Richard A. Recognizing that 20 percent of all abortions are performed on college students, Foster launched Feminists for Life's College Outreach Program to provide practical resources for pregnant and parenting students and keeps up a grueling schedule traveling to campuses, where she's remarkably successful in changing students' minds about abortion. Planned Parenthood called Feminists for Life's "Question Abortion" campaign "the newest and most challenging concept in anti-choice student organizing."

Foster sharply criticizes colleges for providing abortions but no other services for pregnant students. "What kind of a choice is that?" she asks. She challenges abortion supporters and pro-lifers to work together to provide real alternatives to women facing crisis pregnancies.

Patricia Heaton, who played Raymond's wife on the hit series Everybody Loves Raymond, is a Feminists for Life celebrity spokesman who loves Foster. She explains that "opponents think group is strong and powerful, because Serrin is strong and powerful. She's the embodiment of what we feel about women. To think that the only thing a woman can do with a child is abort is demeaning to women and undermines everything that the women's movement has been working on since the suffragettes."

Under the banner "Women Deserve Better," Heaton appears in one of Feminists for Life's print ad campaigns that reads: "Every 38 seconds in America a woman lays her body down, feeling forced to choose abortion out of a lack of practical resources and emotional support. Abortion is a reflection that society has failed women. There is a better way."

'It's Not About Me'

By Dan Ewald | Christian Reader Magazine

"She is brazen in her decision to be pro-life in an unabashedly pro-choice town. Patricia is the honorary chairperson of Feminists for Life, a non-religious group that attempts to bring feminism back to its original meaning, which, she says, was about making the world a place where women and children can feel safe and protected and become whom they are to the fullest extent. Since most of her peers connect pro-lifers to a brand of Christian extremism, Patricia appreciates Feminists for Life's method." In my community in Hollywood, FFL is a way to approach the question of feminism and pro-life thinking in a way that people can hear it and don't have a preconceived idea."

Beverly Hills

Can I ask what references you are considering for List of gay villages? I didnt see any. I am a resident of Beverly Hills and can say that although the city's attitude towards gays is friendly, there are no gay bars or any gay "scene" in the city at all. The city's gay population seems to be no different from the rest of the Westside, with the major exception of West Hollywood, which borders BH. Please get back to me. --Shamir1 03:55, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

My mistake, I'm not familiar enough with whether or not Beverly Hills should be included in that list but was in more "revert vandalism" mode so didn't notice your WP:V comment thus incorrectly thought it was just removing content without explanation. Please accept my apologies. Benjiboi 22:21, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Apologies not needed. You should note that the article needs more references. --Shamir1 19:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
The article has been taged as needing cites. Frankly I think it needs a vast overhaul but my plate is full. Benjiboi 19:16, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

In reference to this series of revisions, I am wondering why my revision was cited as spam? I can understand if you do not wish people to be tagged as links, but the video is mine, controlled from my youtube account. Should there not be credit given to the 'creator' of the content in which you use? Youtube may be the host, but it is my video.

Your thoughts on this matter would be greatly apprecicated. Billie Hawkins, myself@billiehawkins.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Billiehawkins (talkcontribs) 10:59, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi, no problem being new. In wikipedia world blogs and spam are essentially not great for building articles. I didn't remove credit, simply correctly attributed to its author rather than link to the billiehawkins.com website which didn't belong in the citation. Perhaps I shouldn't have called it spam and stuck to blog but frankly I didn't even look at the webpage as that's not where the content was being referenced. I simply corrected the information within the reference rather than deleting it altogether as I felt it does add to the article. Benjiboi 22:33, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification, that makes total sense. - Billiehawkins —Preceding comment was added at 10:04, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Stonewall and the death of Judy Garland (Re: Gay Pride et al

Although I had planned to mention this, the reference that I found was that this is an urban myth. Could you provide links or references to information that can substantiate the claim?--Amadscientist 01:01, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Lol. Actually the urban myth is that the riots started because the gay bar ran out of ice for cocktails. Judy Garland's death most definitely played a role as her tragic life was empathized by many queens (remember that celebrities generally were a lot less tragic in those days) and she was a gay icon for her character Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz - "A friend of Dorothy" as in any friend of Dorothy is a friend of mine. Her funeral was the topic of the day and had just ended hours earlier.Benjiboi 03:52, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
I think the following puts it best:

"The uprising was inspirited by a potent cocktail of pent-up rage (raids of gay bars were brutal and routine), overwrought emotions (hours earlier, thousands had wept at the funeral of Judy Garland) and drugs."

June 28, 1969 By JOHN CLOUD (printed Monday, Mar. 31, 2003)

As far as I know Fireplace did it out of frustration, which is valid but I have so many notes I want to still type up and then go forward with the effort of a totally makeover. I keep thinking the timing is good and it would be nice to have a good parent article with retirement issues branching off of it. I gotta say...

Your response is a bit silly. Flooding the talk page with template warnings is pointy and bitey. One serious warning (or even a personalized message) would be sufficient to get the point acrost. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 17:05, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I had put in a request at the vandalism noticeboard which was removed without notice to me - the summary was that no warnings had been given. I was attempting to provide some documentation that it wasn't a single vandalism but multiple across many user pages. Agreed I could have handled it better but also feel the admin could have simple messaged me stating that a user needs to be notified and then vandalize after that notice before any action takes place. that was news to me so I guess I've learned something. Also, ironically and in hindsight, this is exactly what that user was doing, multiple copies of the same message. Benjiboi 17:12, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I should have notified you, but I was in the middle of other things (work related) and it slipped my mind. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) —Preceding comment was added at 19:56, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
NP, most of the vandalism has been reverted and, as stated I've learned something new about ensuring warning issued first then behavior after warnings is addressed. Benjiboi 20:15, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I too gotta say...

That your actions have been very unprofessional here at Misplaced Pages.I probably will have to report you, but want to research how you handle other articles. Your actions show clear evidence that you are trying to game the system by claiming 'incivility' when you, without explanation or reason did wholesale reversals on my edits of the Lonnie Frisbee article.

I'm sorry but you are very mistaken on the facts. You specifically stated that Lonnie Frisbee **founded** two ministries.

That is utterly untrue. But it does fit the narrative you are trying to force onto this story whether the facts comport or not.

I'll stop here and see if you're willing to at least confess to this sin. thank you.71.238.68.127 17:22, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Please don't come falsely claim things on my talk page. I never claimed Frisbee founded two ministries and I don't believe that is true and have stated such on the article talk pages where I suggest you stick to with content issues about that article rather than accusing others of misbehavior. Myself, and other editors, have and will continue to revert and edits which don't conform to wp standards including WP:NPOV, WP:RS and WP:V. Alleging that I have sinned also seems akin to a personal attacks so please stop. Benjiboi 17:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, we are all sinners. Trying to game the system once again by claiming victimhood status seems to be your stock in trade. You now have committed the sin of lying.

Here is your claim made minutes ago: "I never claimed Frisbee founded two ministries"

But here are your **exact** words: "Frisbee was both gay and the founder of two charismatic Christian denominations, Benjiboi 21:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)"

Please quit slandering me (even in your talk page), quit making false statements and then compounding the dishonesty by falsely claiming you did not make false statements. Finally, for the good of wikipdia, quit trying to force your POV on to articles and contort them to fit the narrative you want them to even if the facts won't cooperate with you. And please quit trying to game the system by claiming that you are always the aggrieved party. Thanks! 71.238.68.127 17:34, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

(documenting diff) Benjiboi 18:07, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

If I erred in a lengthy comment on a talk page I hereby apologize, I don't believe Frisbee founded two churches, I never did and still don't and have corrected my mistake on the statement (please note comment is stricken but not removed). No mistakes are excuses however, for your accusations and I again ask for you to please stop. Benjiboi 18:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Also to address your other points; you're welcome to report me, I have worked to remain civil despite your somewhat confrontational style; accusing me of game(ing) the system is unwarranted - all a freely able to edit on wp; I have explained, I believe, absolutely every edit and have taken extra steps to address concerns on your talk page as well as the talk page of the article. Even though I mistakenly stated Frisbee founded rather than sparked - I did so on the talk page responded to your heated comments, That same information should not be in the article as I have repeated several times. Your comment "claiming victimhood status seems to be your stock in trade" is a personal attack and is not appreciated and is also not allowed. if you can't remain civil then you are likely to be blocked. Benjiboi 20:43, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't actually care about placing images right or left with one exception: if there is a list of bullet points, placing the image in front (left) of them wrecks the indent of the bullet points. I think this looks ugly and should be avoided. Thanks for your question. Str1977 17:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, I didn't ask if you care so much as I think we need to follow manual of style for image placement as it's likely to be reverted anyway I'm personally not that troubled so will save researching that MOS nuance for a later date. Benjiboi 17:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
I would be very surprised if the MoS dictates that we need to place one image right, one left, one right one left or vice versa. If it would do that it is a stupid role and should be changed. If you are bent on going in zig-zag, we can also move the other images so that that one doesn't create the problem described. But frankly I don't see any MoS problem at all. Str1977 22:03, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually I was simply told that was image MOS and believed them. The article needs all sorts of help so sussing out images from side to side doesn't seem like that big of deal. I say leave it for now. If someone else is hot and botheered we can revisit the issue at that time. Benjiboi 22:07, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

verbiage

James Martin, S.J. the U.S. entertainment industry is of "two minds" about the Catholic Church. He argues that,

On the one hand, film and television producers seem to find Catholicism irresistible. There are a number of reasons for this. First, more than any other Christian denomination, the Catholic Church is supremely visual, and therefore attractive to producers and directors concerned with the visual image. Vestments, monstrances, statues, crucifixes - to say nothing of the symbols of the sacraments - are all things that more "word oriented" Christian denominations have foregone. The Catholic Church, therefore, lends itself perfectly to the visual media of film and television. You can be sure that any movie about the Second Coming or Satan or demonic possession or, for that matter, any sort of irruption of the transcendent into everyday life, will choose the Catholic Church as its venue.Benjiboi

List of gay villages

You certainly seem to be a very popular editor. Anyway, while looking at the list of villages I noticed that some cities which have their own municipality are included in the larger city it is a part of. For example, West Hollywood is a city on its own (has own municipal boundaries, mayor, city council, school system, police dept., etc.) although it is part of urban Los Angeles. The same goes with other cities. Should "Los Angeles" be written as its city, or perhaps Los Angeles County, or Los Angeles (urban), or for suburban villages Los Angeles (metro) ... just brainstorming. Perhaps there is no problem at all. We also have the option of changing the "City" title. --Shamir1 20:23, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Well popular is one thing beloved is quite another! I'll take a look, as long as it works I'm not bothered any one way. Each list can can also be independent and we should keep the "average reader"'s needs in mind. Benjiboi 21:16, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Do you know how it can be formatted in a way that the names of multiple villages can share one city in the box? --Shamir1 17:58, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm sure there's a way but I don't know how as of yet. Benjiboi 01:01, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Dealing with perceived vandalism

As an admin I am constantly dealing with vandalism. I have to proportion my time on this on the fly. I don't have the time to warn every vandal. I deal with each one on a case by case basis. Thanks for your input. -- No Guru 23:38, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I wasn't aware that you were an admin, I trust that you'll sort things as needed. Benjiboi 23:50, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Transgender Edits have been reverted

Gender was edited to reflect the fact that it is of Latin origin and has no anglo-saxon roots. If objectivity is sacrificed at the expense of ego, then the authority and quality of the article is unquestionably dimished. Gender , is a Latin word via French

The current version does seem improved, thanks for your work. Benjiboi 00:59, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

It was not a mistake re Sister Boom-Boom edits

FYI, The same user has vandalized Sister Roma and Hot House Entertainment (where she works) in the same manner. Benjiboi 09:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the warning. Ill be watching her. I think we should consider that kind of vandalism as a vand4im.... I sure hope the admins check the page history before deleting Oo --Excirial 09:53, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

ANI

You might want to weigh in on the admin board about the Lara bran situation. S/he is calling me and another editor vandals and asserting a conspiracy on Misplaced Pages. Could be fun:) Jeffpw 11:33, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

The Dixie Chicks

The Dixie chicks are not the highest selling girl group, Destiny Child is. The source for the Dixie Chicks was realeased about 4 months before the source before Destiny Child plus Destiny Child has actually recieved the award for becoming the best selling girl group of all time. Clikc on the link for the dixie Chicks then click on the link for Destiny Child on their page and you'll see this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jammy2 (talkcontribs) 14:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

The Dixie Chicks are the highest selling for a band that plays its own instruments vs a singing "band". That was the distinction. Benjiboi 14:22, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

You continue with your anti-Catholic agenda in the Sister Roma article

You have seen fit to include a picture in the Sister Roma article which depicts an event mocking the Passion of Jesus Christ. The article is not about that event, it is about the drag fag Michael Williams. Whether or not Williams co-hosted that event is irrelevant. Articles about persons -- term used loosely in the case of Williams -- ought to have pictures of that person, not events s/he has hosted. The only reason you had for including the picture is to give presence and greater notoriety to an anti-Catholic event. In this way you fulfill your anti-Catholic agenda.

GREAT picture, Benjiboi! I laughed and laughed when I saw it. Too bad it wasn't a nekkid Jesus competition, though:( <picture a very sad face here>. And on a brighter note, at least the anon IP's homophobic vandalism now has the appropriate religious context. I thought it had something to do with a religious nutter's agenda.Jeffpw 15:20, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
You laughed, and laughed? What exactly is so funny about that picture that it had you laughing, and laughing? 72.68.30.122 15:42, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Knowing what was gonna happen to Jesus next. :-P I must confess I got hard watching The Passion Of The Christ. Jeffpw 15:45, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
You can't be faulted for watching the movie, but with that reaction perhaps therapy is indicated. 72.68.30.122 15:49, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, I really just fast forwarded to the good parts. But those I watched over and over again, with some kleenex, lube and a bottle of poppers. Jeffpw 15:57, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Again, therapy is indicated for you. 72.68.30.122 16:04, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
But...it was therapy that made me this way! <sob> Jeffpw 16:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Mel Gibson did some last hours of Jesus film that was said to eroticize the crucifiction as well. I wonder if that's considered anti-Catholic or anti-Jesus or whatever. Benjiboi 21:01, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
The image in question is at the anniversary of the group for which she is reportedly the most visible member, and she is clearly in the photo, microphone in hand, as an emcee which the article also refers. Please refrain from personal attacks against the subject of the article or any editors and assume good faith that editors are adding content appropriately. Your recent vandalism and now trolling criticism of those who have reverted your actions is not appreciated. In hindsight, however, I will thank you for helping push the Roma article into a much better state. I doubt that you are Roma but one could hardly ask for better results in that the article has vastly improved thanks to your efforts. As for accusing me of an anti-Catholicism agenda (not sure why crucifying Jesus is the sole domain of Catholicism) but no, I have little interest in defending nor attacking Catholicism and them seem to have plenty of supporters like yourself eager to label things they don't approve. You'd do better to actually read the many articles on the subject that assert that Roma and her group are more parodying Catholic iconography then attacking them and indeed have regularly supported the Catholic church. Benjiboi 18:57, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Your statements on Catholicism and Williams and his group defending it are so ludicrous they don't even deserve a reply. You and others like you impose your own political matrix on the Church, as when using terms like "Catholic iconography" which are meaningless in view of the meaning of the term "icon" in the Catholic sense. If all my statements are "what it took" to push the Roma article into what you consider a much better state, then shame on all of you. Its current state is disreputable and remains in need of correct sourcing. May I quote you, honey: "The article was pre-gutted before the anon IP showed up but now it's a just a reffed mess. I'm so embarrassed for us all. Benjiboi 15:35, 29 October 2007 (UTC)." Thanks for your attention, honey. 72.68.30.122 21:01, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Please assume good faith and save your soapboxing for some other venue, this is an encyclopedia and not a forum for whatever agenda you seem to be working through although I do wonder why you're so very concerned with gay porn and drag nuns. The comment of mine you cite above was when article had been vectored down to one paragraph or so. Regardless you do deserve credit for so much attention being brought to the article. If you have any concerns about sources please feel free to cite which ones are faulty and I'll be very happy to re-confirm their content and what they assert in the article. Benjiboi 21:20, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
You shouldn't have to re-confirm content; it should be right in the first place, when you first post it. No matter, others much smarter than I have undertaken the task of cleaning up your errors. I would not talk about soapboxing if I were you -- you do it surreptitiously. It's quite impossible to assume good faith with you. 72.68.30.122 22:24, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

NYTimes gay neighborhoods article

That was a fascinating article, Benjiboi, and so informative. Did you know that the AIDS epidemic started in 1990 and was over in 1995? That was sure news to me, and I have written a letter to the editor, thanking the Times for broadening my knowledge base. :-s Jeffpw 20:50, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
