Fr. Fernando Suarez, CC, 40, is a Filipino catholic priest domiciled in Canada, who became a renowned faith healer in the Philippines and in the United States. On December 10, 2007, Suarez was awarded by Malacanang / Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, as one of the 7 "The Outstanding Young Men" (TOYM), for "religious service" by reason of being famous for his healing ministry.

Education

Born on February, 1967 at Barrio Butong, Taal, Batangas, Philippines. His father Cervando worked as a very poor tricycle driver while his mother, Azucena Mortel was a seamstress. Being the eldest of 4 children (sister and 2 brothers), he graduated in public schools. At age 12 he earned a living by leasing inflatables at Butong, Taal beach, to support studies. Suarez earned chemical engineering degree at Adamson University, Manila.

Calling

At 16, Suarez felt called discovered God's call or divine vocation to pray for and heal the sick. Suarez thereafter knocked at the doors of Philippine seminaries to be a catholic priest but he was rejected: a) at the seminary of the Franciscan Order (Conventuals), and then, b) at the SVD (Society of the Divine Word). But at said Christ the King Seminary, Quezon City, he claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary who left him a message. In 1996, Mark Morin paid for his Canada plane ticket. Fr. Suarez accordingly applied to the Diocese of Winnipeg but was again turned down.

In 1997, Suarez joined the Companions of the Cross. In 1999, Suarez claimed to have raised a woman from the dead at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, in the presence of several doctors, using prayer. Fr. Fernando was ordained catholic priest in 2002 at age 35. On 2002 to July, 2003, Suarez served as the associate pastor of St. Timothy¹s parish in North York, Ontario; but thereafter, he had been endowed the novel ministry. While representing the Companions of the Cross, Suarez has travelled throughout the world. Suarez has announced he will attempt to build a shrine to the Blessed Virgin at Montemaria, in Batangas City. It will consist of - a Rosary Garden, Way of the cross, Eucharistic and Adoration Chapel, St. Joseph Chapel, Divine Mercy Chapel, colambarium, retreat houses, prayer gardens, campsites, and lodging houses, and a replica or model of Mary's house in Ephesus, Turkey). On January 7, 2007 the ground was broken at the site, accompanied by a tall statue of Mary. The entire project is scheduled to finish by September, 2008. The statue will be hand-made by national artist Ed Castrillo.
