Murree article copyedit

hey, i'm working on a massive copyedit for this article, which is why the WPLoC template is in the Talk:Murree page. please make it a habit to check the talk page before making an edit, as it may conflict with edits that are being made or with previously discussed issues. if you have existing knowledge on murree and would like to collaborate, though, i'd welcome the help. Checking Talk Pages

Okay ;-) .... but it would help if there was an update added to the bottom of the article, advising not to edit, I always scroll down to the bottom of talk pages - to see what the latest update is. Anyway good to see someone is trying to sort the article out, I had a bash at it every now and again but nothing substantial.

Pahari Sahib 03:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

  • good idea on the making a note bit. i'll suggest that as a standard, and i'll let you know when i'm done hacking at it if you'd like to give it another read at that point.

Miranjani Map

Pahari Sahib, you have attached a vague map of district Abbottabad to Miranjani article and Miranjani is absent from the map. It is irrelevent to the article. It is therefore deleted. If you can make a bigger and detailed map directly related to Miranjani, that can enhance the information.
Khalid Mahmood

Karachi Division

Why did you undo the redirect? Karachi Division and Karachi District are one and the same. Any information you want to include about the old District can be incorporated in the Karachi article, including whatever templates you want to add. --Polaron | Talk 01:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Note the actual "Divisions of Pakistan" template has since been amended to reflect this

Mansar (India)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have perfomed a web search with the contents of Mansar (India), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Mansar. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 10:20, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

{{Pakistan-gov-stub}}

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Misplaced Pages:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Misplaced Pages, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gama1916.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

My reply

FYI

I saw you added some Guantanamo captives to the article Afghan refugees. As I edit those article I check to see if they should link there. There are about 200 Guantanamo captives who are from Afghanistan. Something like half of them are refugees, or former refugees.

Have you considered creating a category Category:Afghan refugees?

There are a couple of wikipedia volunteers, from that area, who argued that "Afghan" should not be used as a synonym for a citizen of Afghanistan. They asserted that "Afghan" really only applied to people from the Pashtun ehni group. They argued that many o the used of Afghan should be replaced by "Afghanistani".

I found their arguments convicing. So I supported their efforts when they tried to change the names of some things. As I recall one or both of them tried to replace Category:Afghan politicians to Category:Politicians of Afghanistan.

Are you from that area? If so, do you think they had a valid argument? If you like I can go through my contrubtion history and look up their wiki-ids.

Faisalabad

Greetings

So, you are not from Afghanistan, but you have some familiarity with the area?

Are you familiar with Faisalabad?

I started, and have made contributions to, Salafi University and al Qaeda guest house, Faisalabad.

Salafi University is a very small institution -- a few hundred students. If the testimony of the Guantanamo captives is to be believed sponsors cover all the costs of running the institution, even paying for the student's tuition, room and board. Which is kind of remarkable. And if the captive's testimony is to be believed, and it was correctly translated, and I understood it properly, some of the students were almost illiterate.

Do you khow anything of higher education in smaller institutions in Pakistan?

Do you know if Faisalabad is in the Pashtun area of Pakistan?

I hope you don't mind me trying to pick your brains.

Cheers! Geo Swan 19:46, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

My reply 17 October 2007
Hi Geo Swan, Faisalabad is an industrial city in Punjab, Pakistan. It was there that Abu Zubida had been arrested.FatehM 21:39, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind...

I hope you don't mind, but I would like to go to wikipedia:requested moves, and request a move back to the original name. I saw you moved Wazir to Haji Wazir]. Usually titles aren't part of article names on the wikipedia.

The full official lists of Guantanamo names contains dozens of instances where they treated Haj, Mullah, Maulvani as if they were the men's given names. I thought it best to conform t,e wikipedia convention, and not repeat their mistake.

Kala Dhaka

ASA! You have made some changes in Kala Dhaka, which looks good but those alterations would have been more glorious if you had focussed tribes living on eastern slopes of the Mountain aswell, as you have mentioned Yousazais, will you overlook Swati tribes? I have been contributing/editing to wikipedia for more than three years. I Hope you shall have been enjoying it also. Take great care! Haider 23:44, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for reply! Certainly I would appreciate you for your credentials but don't forget the tribes residing on eastern slopes and suburbs of the kala dhaka. Take care auo khudai pa amaan. Haider 21:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Pakistan tourism

I removed your comments from the tourism in Pakistan page. Get your own website if you want to express crap opinions.

The above was an unsigned comment by User talk:ChorizoLasagna, I replied as follows

Dear Lasagna,

Please explain how you think this is vandalism.

Perhaps you confused my edit with this edit

Even if I had made that particular edit it does not warrant you placing insulting comments on my talk page.

Please see Misplaced Pages:Civility

Also please learn to sign your comments on talkpages.

Thank you

Coordinates

Yes you need to link it on the wikimap but at present Basharat is located off the coast of Ghana. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:07, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Look will you please correct your coordinate map. It is incorrect. Please look at the wikimap by clicking the globe on your new articles - they show these places in Pakistan in the sea off the coast of west africa. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:13, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Rights all you need to do is add a | between 60 and E. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:15, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I've corrected it for you now . You;ll need to start an article on Arra. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:19, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Thats better keep up the good work! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:57, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

One thing though can you add this in the talk pages of every article you create:{{WikiProject Pakistan|class=stub}} ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ 19:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

It's worth noting that I only made this mistake on two articles Basharat and Begal, the co-ordinates themselves were correct just a pipe was missing - I had been adding coordinates to articles for a while without issue for example Haripur and Haripur District going back to 18th Feb 2007.

Speedy deletion of Abbakhel

A tag has been placed on Abbakhel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader.

Toddst1 (talk) 03:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Note other users had contested this, and as a result the article has not been deleted.

Speedy deletion of Toba Tek Singh (short story)

Twinkle is evil.

A tag has been placed on Toba Tek Singh (short story) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Wisdom89 (talk) 05:43, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I must say this has annoyed me, barely a minute after creating the article, it gets tagged under CSD A7 which states "It is an article about a real person that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject"
Firstly: it clearly says short *story* therefore cannot be biography of a real person, looking at the plot summary should be instructive.
Secondly: why did it get tagged a minute after creation? I was in the middle of developing the article. It is a stub, I was going to add more details a little later.
Thirdly: have the deletionistas heard of Google? Obviously an article needs to assert its importance - but I had just created this one, a simple google search shows this might indeed be notable.
Fourthly: why are Knock and especially Superiority notable? The latter is rather minimalist, how is notable exactly?
Fifthly: Whilst writing this it has been deleted, must be part of Misplaced Pages:Delete Foreign sounding articles with weird names

Hi Pahari Sahib
do you also post under ip 90.196.190.207 ,was just checking the Multan page and thaught if this were possible ?? Cheers

No, My Reply

Hello again ...I was looking at the history of the Multan page and the deletions on preceding pages ....thats how I thought perhaps ....!! well we seem to be visiting and working on many similar pages related to the history of the Punjab ...cited contributions are better than deletions of cited content ....not every one on wikipedia believes so ...whats your take ?? Cheers and Happy new year !
Intothefire (talk) 16:30, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Agreed that cited contributions are required

Editing your own contribution is not vandalism

Hi! What is your problem .You seem to take pleasure in vandalising in a conceited way.You edited my posts and labelled it vandalism, which were contributed by me.Please be careful ok. You can be suitably rewarded too.Ajjay (talk) 17:01, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Above comment made in error, this was my edit, someone else undid your subsequent edits and reverted to my version.
And what exactly do you mean by "suitably rewarded" is that some kind of threat?
Pahari Sahib 21:30, 6 January 2008 (GMT)

There seem to be a gross misunderstanding. The errors you see, were infact seen by me too a day earlier and i sent, pointing vandalism, messages to people working/ supporting Guru Nanak's article. But you see after the errors were removed, i added some teachings/ verses of Guru Nanak and lots of other content. But some one keeps on removing that and adding stupid content. For example his fathers name was wriiten as Methane Gas!I'm trying to improve the article.Your help will be much appreciated by me , if you do want to help.If you see any change and it is by me, please disscuss it with me before editing it.THANKSAjjay (talk) 03:27, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
