OccupationMother of the Nation of Islam (since 1986)

Ruby Muhammad, born Ruby Macie Grayer (born March 20, 1897) is the Mother of the Nation of Islam.

Biography

Muhammad was born in Sandersville, Georgia, but grew up in Americus, Georgia. She was raised by a woman she used to think was her aunt, but now concurs that this woman was probably not a relative. Muhammad's mother died when she was very young and her father was not known to her until she was a teenager; thus she was raised accordingly.

Muhammad joined the Nation in 1946 and was named Mother of the Nation of Islam in 1986 by Minister Louis Farrakhan.

In March 2008, she allegedly turned 111. Despite her age, she is still in excellent health, still exercising and taking care of herself. From community records in Sandersville, she also believes her father lived to be 107 and her great-grandfather 110. In 2008, Ruby Muhammad, now known as Ruby Pittman (the name of her second husband), got a scooter as a donation from a scooter store.

Muhammad is not the widow of Elijah Muhammad, founder of the Nation of Islam. She has had two husbands, neither being Elijah Muhammad.
