Welcome!
Welcome to Misplaced Pages! I hope you enjoy the encyclopedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read the simplified ruleset. There are thousands of ways to get help on Misplaced Pages. I personally recommend the Misplaced Pages:Boot Camp, where in addition to standard posts, you can use an IRC to chat online with fellow Wikipedians willing to help! In addition, Misplaced Pages also has pages dedicated to the use of Misplaced Pages, for example, if you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting pages visit the manual of style. Roy Hattersley
I have reverted your addition of Category:Daily Mail and General Trust to Roy Hattersley. There is nothing in the article to justify the category, and it seems implausible that he would have any involvement with the Daily Mail. Do you have a source which would justify placing him in the category? --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:54, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I was adding the new category to pages, and I was adding all the links from the Daily Mail page Writers section here (see link for list). And the name of the person was there as well, and it also has a description " former Labour Party deputy leader". So I thought this was adequate (although I was suspicious that it was a Labour guy for a right wing paper). If i was wrong to add the category than i'm sorry.Pafcool2 16:16, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- See my reply at User talk:BrownHairedGirl#Roy_Hattersley. Have created a new a category which you should find useful. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:34, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
London Boroughs
Thanks for reviewing some of the London Boroughs pages, as you've noticed most are in a distressing state - and it's a good day when the page is extended from harmless to mostly harmless. I would however urge you to use the fact tag sparingly - either for things that don't make sense, or that are obviously disputed. I had a quick look round after you 'facted' London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and was quickly able to verify most of them from one source. If you had done the same, rather than leave it to me, we'd probably cut the work in half - but that's not to say you're wrong. They needed to be verified.
A bizarre example, which I noted you'd noticed is the London Borough of Tower Hamlets article. Somebody did a drive-by facting and reheading the page structure with stuff from the 'How to write about Geographical settlements' some time ago, they then didn't actually do any work on clearing up the mess they'd left - and, well, it left the page in a worse state than when they'd started. (They also did a lot of damage to other articles in Tower Hamlets, requesting facts all over the place, and marking it as 'lacking references'). You could consider marking pages {{refimprove}} as this indicates that the page, or section, needs further referencing, and is much less disruptive.
Editors are all volunteers, and have a very mixed standard of production. Most of the articles are deficient in any text, let alone referenced material - and setting standards too high does dissuade people from contributing. There's a balance to be achieved, and that should be encouragement, rather than an over enforcement of rules. Where you believe articles are deficient, please do take a moment to try to reference the material, rather than leave it to others. (I actually take a bizarre pleasure in doing that!).
Anyway, thanks for all your hard work. I wish all boroughs had reached the standard of London Borough of Croydon. On a number of occasions I've tried to persuade WPLondon to do a blitz on a borough of the month (article by article), ultimately, I think it's what's needed to improve the London coverage.

Re: Earth like planet?
I read this about 55 Cancri f in the Daily Mail and wondered if this is new info. As i'm not really into science maybe you could field this! I've seen on the edit history that you are the only person to of added to the article See this article for me to see if i'm right, thanks! And please get back to me. From Pafcool2 20:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- You'd be better off asking Anarchist42. He authored the article; I just rated it. --Turnipface 20:30, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oh yeah! Sorry I was looking at another history page with your name on it, must of got them mixed up. My mistake! Pafcool2 20:34, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, a large moon orbiting the 4th planet could be habitable for life as we know it. Normally you'd expect a moon around a gas giant to be constantly bombarded with asteroids drawn in by the giant, which would be problematic for life, but in 55 Cancri there's an even larger giant further out that might help deflect them. And with the abundance of heavy elements in the system, there's a good chance a large terrestrial body would still be warm enough to keep plate tectonics going, which is needed to recycle water and air. One caveat, though: the moon would have to be huge, earth-sized, to retain a thick atmosphere. Titan has a thick atmosphere only because it's so cold; it would lose it if it were as warm as Earth. Our giants don't have any moons that large relative to the planet. And to be habitable, the moon would need to be outside the giant's radiation belts. Kwamikagami 20:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for that answer, I didn't even know it's a moon from the article. You know you're science! Anyone else want to simplfy that? Pafcool2 20:58, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Strictly Come Dancing
Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Strictly Come Dancing. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. The results for week seven on Strictly Come Dancing haven't been revealed yet (I'm watching it live) so please keep them off the page until they have. Thanks! ~~ 19:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, and it wasn't vandalism, I mean everyone knew that they were going out! There was no other possibility and you know that that's a fact! But sorry if you didn't want to know the results! Pafcool2 (talk) 19:29, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Once they were in the dance off, I knew that they would be going out. However, for verifiability purposes, the result should not be added until after it has happened. I thought I had selected the "factual error" template, but mustn't have - sorry about that. However, in future, please keep the result off until after it has been broadcast live. Thanks :) ~~ 19:33, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Image:Uk outline map.png
A tag has been placed on Image:Uk outline map.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Misplaced Pages have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on ] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Template:UK Hotels
This is a very bad idea. First most of these companies are not based in the UK. Second the only logical follow on is create a template for every country in which case there would be scores of these templates in most hotel company articles. That would make these next to useless. Template:Bus companies in Greater London
I got the idea for Template:Bus companies in North West England from Template:Bus companies in Wales - but it seemed sensible to sub-categorise by county as otherwise it would be a bit of an amorphous blob. I opted to go for "Major bus companies" only to stop every Tom, Dick and Harry from being added, although there are still a few entries in there which I disapprove of! I'm not quite sure how you define the various areas of London, as it seemingly can't be done on county lines - perhaps boroughs? It certainly would be good to roll out across the rest of England, it's just finding the time to sit down and do it. I'd probably start with North East, Yorkshire and West Midlands, so if you wanted to do some, perhaps East and South East would be a good place to start? Divy (talk) 10:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
A combination of prior knowledge of the main operating groups and large independents cross-referenced against the existing articles in Category:Current bus operators in England. County council websites can be useful places to look too. Divy (talk) 14:31, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Motorway services templates
I like what you have done with the templates for Moto Roadchef and Welcome Break, but believe strongly that they don't belong on the articles of the individual franchisers e.g. Costa, McDonalds, WH Smith etc. I have therefore removed them. --Cheesy Mike (talk) 17:04, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- I do think it is reasonable to mention Moto, Roadchef or Welcome Break within each company's article and provide a wikilink, but the template really is overkill. --Cheesy Mike (talk) 17:12, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Map for East Midlands Trains
East Midlands Trains is a complicated franchise, so it would be harder to map than most of the ones I’ve done (I don’t like to just copy the official map), but I have thought about doing it; at the moment I’m struggling with Ottawa’s buses and Copenhagen’s S-tog network. What do you think would be more useful — a schematic map, or a geographical one? David Arthur (talk) 15:53, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

BotHell
Every time this bot is allowed to run it creates problems for everyone (including me!). I nearly blocked it this evening, but someone beat me to it - that's how bad it is. If you add {{Non-free use rationale}} and provide a rationale for each page that the image is used in, that seems to satisfy the beast - until someone comes up with a better idea to make all our lives hell! Good luck. Kbthompson (talk) 00:23, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Images of Croydon
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Images of Croydon, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}}
to the top of Images of Croydon. ninety:one 16:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Images of Croydon
An editor has nominated Images of Croydon, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Images of Croydon and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:59, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
