Username blocks

For usernames that aren't (that) big a deal (i.e. company or promotional names etc.) it's best to uncheck all the boxes in the blocking form, this is called a softblock. However, in circumstances like with disruptive users (who also qualify for a username hardblock), it's obvious there not here for encyclopedic purposes - so in that case leave it as normal (like at AIV) and tick the top two - leaving the email one unchecked, this is called a hardblock. Go on Special:Listusers - type in Rudget - and then see the impersonations, they also qualify for hardblocks :) Rudget. 08:42, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Dude, not cool or necessary. Keeper76 and me are pals and he'll understand the April's fool. Dorftrottel (talk) 12:20, April 1, 2008

Would you mind undoing your revert, because I basically never re-revert to a version of my own unless it's clear-cut vandalism cleanup. Dorftrottel (talk) 12:21, April 1, 2008
Woohoo! Thanks. Dorftrottel (vandalise) 12:26, April 1, 2008

I strongly recommend that you don't block Dorf. Immediately. Vandalism is not not tolerated around here. The bastard. So, you got your mop yesterday, and you don't block? :-) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 14:23, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I hate April 1st. Back when I was a junior high school teacher, I would check the calendar and pray that 4/1 was over a weekend. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 14:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Protection

I've unprotected your talk page. We simply don't protect user talk pages unless there's a very good reason to and not being online isn't one of those. You need to leave your talk page open so people can contact you even when you're not around. Please don't protect it like that again. Regards, Ryan Postlethwaite 22:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

IP indef blocks

Hi Cobaltbluetony. IP addresses should virtually never be blocked indefinitely (eg). Please see Misplaced Pages:Blocking IP addresses. I'm going to adjust some of the indef-blocks you've made today. I would suggest you keep the IP blocks short until you've had some more experience with them. Feel free to ask me anything on my talk page. Thanks. -- zzuuzz 23:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Yea, I noticed a few of those too. Just letting you know I am unblocking and tweaking the time on a couple other of your indef blocked IP's. Tiptoety 01:13, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Article Deletion

Hello,

please let me know why you deleted the page on Harbour Pictures, created last Friday? It was created using the pages on similar production companies as reference - e.g. Ecosse, Kudos, Working Title. Since you haven't deleted their entries, why does this one count as advertising?

1541 Ultimate

People agree you should undelete the article and atleast put it up for AfD. Thanks! DeeKay64 (talk) 10:44, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Spot On Networks

Hi,
I recieved your deletion message and since you invited me to ask a few questions here they are. The article you deleted was about Spot On Networks, and it was deleted because you felt that it was advertising. Not So. Spot On is not available to the general public, was founded by some of the first wireless communications pioneers, and represents the largest company of its kind in the wi fi field. It is a service that must be offered to the user, you can not sign up for it on your own, therefore I was clearly not advertising. I was however hoping to create several articles, on things such as the founders of SON who helped to create the wireless industry in the US, as well as the article about wi-fi internet telephones which SON helped develop. Most of the founders of SON have been featured in the book Wireless Nation, and I wished to add/create that article as well. I noticed that there are articles about apple computer, t mobile, microsoft, etc. why is it that those articles which are about companies that clearly sell to the general public are allowed while my article about a service available by invite only and founded by tecnology pioneers just like bill gates and steve jobs is immediately deleted as advertising? SON may be a small company but their role in past, present, and future wi-fi technology advancements is important. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lazaruslong4272 (talkcontribs) 13:14, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I left a response on my own talk page - I never know which is the correct place to respond. I think from now on I will respond on my own talk page, and add a notice to the users page that I am responding which I am doing now! BananaFiend (talk) 14:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Congrats on your promotion to admin!

Our paths have crossed in various places on WP and you always exhibit sound judgement and common sense - a much deserved promotion. Good luck! – ukexpat (talk) 16:12, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

You are rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why did you delete my article!? You couldn't go and delete something like Mike the headless chicken, so you go and delete my article! I can't stand you! Was there something just so bad about my article! Was it not neutral enough!? Or was it just horrible!? Your name stinks as well. I hope your next fifty articles get deleted! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lee hldn (talkcontribs) 20:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Bill Cunningham Article

Sorry, I was in the middle of editing the article. Cunningham is running again in 2008, and has held a series of top party positions in the Liberals. He is a big name in Canadian politics, whihc would be clear once i complete the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MinistryofTruth85 (talkcontribs) 20:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, but like I said, he is noteable for other reasons. I will do a complete writeup and repost later. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MinistryofTruth85 (talkcontribs) 20:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

adminship

Congratulations!
Here are some words of wisdom I received from the puppy upon my promotion:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for your quick response to my comment/question. I didnt realize about making the article that way and not putting it into the gen pop till it was completed ie properly cited. Sorry about that. I will take your advice and complete the article in that fashion and properly cite it. Thank you for your advice/time and I look forward to becoming a contributing member here on wikipedia. Thanks again and sorry about the original article, it was an honest mistake. - Lazarus —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lazaruslong4272 (talkcontribs) 15:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Polish composers update

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. I'm reading wikipedia for many years, but decided to start helping just now. I'm sorry for that little overlook with tagging minor changes as major (I will remember about edit etiquette). I'm offering knowledge-support about polish composers, since I'm interested in such subject matter for many years. I'll be filling all references and sources continuously, just give me some time for good citations and the rest.

Kind regards, Tomasz. TomaszMilczewski (talk) 16:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about the lulz

Notability of Tracy Price-Thompson

Tony, thanks for restoring that article, but did you read my comment in the deletion review page? The books already listed in the article fulfill WP:BIO for notability, you guys just aren't following the ISBN links to see that her books are in hundreds of libraries. The article doesn't need anything more, it's notable as-is. If someone will actually respond to the things I'm saying, and they really disagree that WP:BIO is fulfilled, I'll do more research, but I've put a good bit in already.--❨Ṩtruthious ℬandersnatch❩ 19:17, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

ISAR page

Hi Tony,

I just wanted to follow up on the status of the ISAR page. I had previously posted that under the user name unctad75802. As per your suggestions: I have created a new page in the temp folder which does not run foul of the copyright rules, and I have also created a new user name. Hoof Hearted indicated earlier that the copyright warning page would be removed soon and replaced with the page I created in the temp folder. So far, the warning page is still there. I just wanted to check with you to get an update on the status of this. Thanks for your help. --Mole31 (talk) 09:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

HighwallMining

I saw that you added some problem tags to the above. On reading it and the external links within the body of the article, I think it's thinly veiled spam, advertising Terexx SHM so I am Afd'ing it. – ukexpat (talk) 17:41, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

As you will see below, I have now Afd'd it. May need your help though -- you were doing the move just as I was doing the Afd - I think I have edited the Afd itself and the Afd log so they all point to the moved article, but would you please double check? Thanks.  – ukexpat (talk) 17:53, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Highwall mining

I have nominated Highwall mining, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Highwall mining. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. ukexpat (talk) 17:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Removal of iSenso Limited

Right, here we go again.

The page is removed before any content is added to it. There's a brief summary of what the page is about and I have specifically put on there, "THIS IS BEING EDITED" so you people don't delete it before it's written. I now find that another time, it has been removed.

Reinstate the iSenso Limited page as it is blatantly NOT advertising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighbe (talkcontribs) 20:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Well can you remove the block from the page, for some reason only nazi administrators can edit it and control information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighbe (talkcontribs) 20:58, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

UKWDA

Please visit UKWDA web site and then tell me I am advertising the web site. It is an independent body of web designers in the United Kingdom. Perhaps in the US you haven't heard of them and feel that it's not relevant to yourself, however, it is for people in the United Kingdom. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighbe (talkcontribs) 21:14, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

John Nelson (Methodist Preacher)

You have just deleted John Nelson Methodist Preacher. I copied this from my own website as I want the information on Misplaced Pages rather than my own website which I will then delete. I am not breaching copyright as it is my own work anyway. Could you restore it? It will all be fully referenced. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Holmfirth lass (talkcontribs) 21:34, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

iSenso Ltd

I would suggest you stop marking every edit for deletion. There is genuine reference to iSenso Ltd as written in the article.

I would also suggest you read articles before trying to control the information that other people can see. Misplaced Pages is just as much everybody elses as it is yours. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighbe (talkcontribs) 22:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

As people have said to you before - controlling everybody else's posts only discourages people from editing Misplaced Pages, which goes completely against what it stands for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leighbe (talkcontribs) 22:13, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Nightly blanking

Out of curiosity, why are you blanking your talk page when you're off-wiki? How do you expect people to respond to existing threads? Doctorfluffy (talk) 00:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

I wasn't noting that your talk page was blank - I was noting that you intentionally blank it every evening only to restore and refactor it the next morning. Further, I don't see what's odd about my comment. My talk page is nearly empty at the moment because, like you, I archive old conversations to reduce clutter and facilitate easy communication with other users. Blanking and restoring on a daily basis is quite different and appears to me to have the opposite effect. I see no advantages to it and several disadvantages - obscuring open conversations and confusing those who may wish add a comment to them, forcing users to delve into the page history even for recent dialogs, and creating an unnecessarily tedious morning routine for yourself.
Anyway, why reinvent the wheel? Why don't you just use Template:User status or something similar if you feel it's important for others to know when you're offline? Doctorfluffy (talk) 07:04, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

PriorSmart

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article PriorSmart, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of PriorSmart. Article Deletion Criteria / Review Standards / Fairness, etc.

Scottwrites (talk) 21:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello,

I'm curious as to why you deleted an article I recently tried to put up. Upon submitting it, I immediately went to edit a typo I'd noticed. But the article had already been deleted. This seems to me as if it was automatic. Which is at the very least, kind of odd as I can't imagine what criteria would have been used for that.

The article is about a new vertical market search engine. (Of which several are listed under Vertical search and most of which have their own entries as well. ) The company is well represented in the tech press, has in the millions of users, and is using novel approaches worthy of note to approach a particular vertical search category.

While I've written or contributed to several articles over the years, this is the first time I've seen what appears to be such an arbitrary, (and possibly automated), action.

Hopefully upon review you will agree and remove whatever block is on the article such that I can finish editing it. (Basically, I need to finish putting in the ref info.)

Thanks, Scott

Advertising? How?

Hi, You've deleted my article, saying its blatent advertising - but the Centurion (Novel) page is about a book, but there wasn't any description, so thats what I entered. I put the description word for word off the books cover, and some comments from famous papers (from the cover again). I've got nothing to do with anyone involved with this book, I just finished reading the series recently and thought it was a shame nobody bothered to put a synopsis on Misplaced Pages. Can you put my page back on, please?

Thanks, Jack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rigsy05 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

No I shouldnt have to, its a description of the book on the right page. Just put it back up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rigsy05 (talkcontribs) 14:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

It is a description, its the summary of the book taken from the cover (and not a copy paste) - I typed it all out myself so I dont appreciate it being deleted the second it gets posted. It was supposed to give people some information on the series (rather than a blank page) and somebody has done exactly the same with the third book, When the Eagle Hunts (fair enough they put in some extra stuff because they probably know how to use it more than I do. This was my first input)

So yeah, put my post back up. Nothing wrong with it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rigsy05 (talkcontribs) 14:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Bestival 2008

Thanks for the message about the above. This is a tricky one -- the fact that it's a future event may make it fall foul of WP:CRYSTAL and, as it is, it does read like a press release or event announcement. At least with the previous years' events (Bestival 2007 for example) they have happened and may be notable enough for inclusion (though that one still needs some work). I am not aware of a consensus on this kind of thing, but that doesn't mean much - I am finding new stuff here all the time. Is there an admin only forum where you could discuss? If not then I guess an Afd nomination would be a way to get consensus, making it clear in the nomination that that was the intention. BTW, did you report the user responsible for the comments immediately above? So, how goes it with the mop so far?  – ukexpat (talk) 16:18, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Of course I meant User:Rigsy05 not User:Jet, must have been an intervening post. I have no idea about the deletion of all iterations of a user page. That would certainly be something to raise on an admin board. I will also keep a note of that question -- would be a good one to ask at an Rfa! (not mine though should I ever seek a mop!). – ukexpat (talk) 16:54, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I am afraid in the UK "sod" has a different usage from that in the US. We refer to the stuff you lay in your yard (garden) as "turf". "Sod" has its roots (as it were and pardon the pun) in sodomy, so calling someone a "sod" or telling them to "sod off" is a little impolite! – ukexpat (talk) 17:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Bestival 2008

I left my views on the matter on Talk:Bestival 2008. In short, I pretty much agree with you it probably doesn't warrant its own article right now, but I'll give the user ample time to respond to see what they think. If all else fails, we could always initiate a request for comment to show the user there is consensus on matters such as this. Cheers! Redfarmer (talk) 16:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Request for unprotection of "Cvent"

Hello,

This post is in regards to your recent deletion and subsequent protection of an entry on “Cvent” due to repeat advertising. I would like to request that the page be unprotected. The former entry was not intended to be an advertisement for the company, nor any kind of means to garner publicity, attention, etc. that would clearly abuse the content policies at Misplaced Pages, but was rather a response, perhaps made in haste, to some false statements about the organization on the web. It was merely an attempt to clear up any confusion. As I said, perhaps the former entry was made too quickly, but now after spending time researching third-party sources on the topic, I believe a clearer, neutral entry could be made on a company that has made a notable presence in its market.

Cvent is well-known in the meetings and events industry and has been in business for 8 years. The term Cvent receives over 20,000 queries per month on Google. Part of the reason is that Cvent conducts 400 events in 100 cities across the U.S., Canada, UK and Australia, meeting in person with over 30,000 meeting and event planners per year. Cvent received $17 million in VC funding in 1999, and it is a profitable company with 10,000 clients world wide and 350+ employees. Cvent’s event management software is used to manage 100,000 events and surveys per year by well-known corporations, associations, education groups and non-profits. There are many people who are simply curious when they hear the name Cvent and I think it would be a worthwhile listing, as many other organizations with similar notable characteristics in their respective markets are included in Misplaced Pages.

I look forward to your thoughts and reconsideration of the entry. Thank you.

Why was my Love Attack! page deleted?

I was wondering why it was deleted? Was the info I gave not enough or was it messy? Do I need to add more info, more in depth info? Or should I just post what I know about Love Attack! under the author's (Shizuru Seino)page? I'm new to this so I don't exactly know what I did wrong or what do I need to do to fix it. Page Deletion - Second Price

I am a concerned citizen writing about a phenomenon that is happening in society. People are being tricked by second prices that companies like Cable Co. are throwing at people to hook them and then blast them with a higher price that in this economy is hard to afford. I want people to know about the thing companies call the "Second Price". I have enjoyed how EMBARQ, a publicly traded telecom company, has personified the Second Price that so many customers fall victim to. I am not advertising but merely informing the public. Isn't that what this is all about? Misplaced Pages is an information network where you share with the world information in the world that you feel is readable. I would like to specifically ask what about my article did you feel was an advertisement? I was working on putting up images and references when you so quickly deleted my page. I have attached some of my references here for you to read over: http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/oct2007/pi20071010_242433.htm - 2nd paragraph under Cable is likely to grab more telephony share: “This low-hanging fruit consists of customers who just plain dislike their local telephone company as well as people who want to take advantage of cable telephony's attractive introductory prices. However, those introductory prices are often just that, and they may rise significantly after a year.”

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/tech/news/5637437.html - Take a look at the last paragraph in the first section.

www.newsvine.com/_news/2008/01/25/1261064-cable-tv-king-of-misleading-come-ons - Introductory price “teaser” offers, with their fleeting discounts and unpredictable… Please let me know the reasoning behind the deletion and any pointers as to how I can make this page work. I want to become more active on this network and would love some pointers from an administrator. Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elbragg (talkcontribs) 21:17, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Page Deletion - Second Price

I read the first blue link (which by the way, I do not need you to define what it is or does...let's try to keep polite as the talk guidelines plainly state on your very page). My entry is not about a company it is about Second price, the price you end up paying for services after tricky companies hook you with an introductory price which has a fine print stipulation where it is only good for 3-12 months. So please explain how the Misplaced Pages's Notability Criteria (organizations and companies) applies to my article. It is not discussing a company or an organization except to use as an example of an advertisement which uses the concept of Second Price and personafies it. I do not agree with your justification for page deletion. Please advise. Thanks again for your time.

Er, help.

I was writing a series of articles on David Chang and his Momofuku restaurant "group", but had to run to deal with some work stuff. When I got back, the article I started on Momofuku (restaurants) had been deleted for "doesn't indicate importance/significance." These restaurants are important on a national scale - Mr. Chang has won numerous awards for them and they are constantly on "best of" lists. I am totally unrelated to the institutions (aside from being a satisfied frequent customer). How should I go about recreating the article(s) without stepping on toes? Thanks! Dear Cobaltblue, I very disappointed that you deleted the page concerning My-Language. This was in the process of being edited. It wasn't advertising or Spam at all. This means we will, come September, be the language learning software recommended to all UK Primary and Scecondary school, basically children from the ages of 7-16 learning French/ German and Spanish. Curious as to deletion of my article?

Hello, I am just wondering why you deleted my article before I even had a chance to publish it? It said "(A7 (bio): Real person; doesn't indicate importance/significance)" when he is clearly a significant person. He has led his track and XC teams to many state and national titles, been recognized as the best runner in his country in his heyday, been featured as National Coach of the Year once, as well as garnering the same award by a magazine. Clearly you seem to be on some sort of power trip, deleting someone who is, yes, close to me, but is also significant in the Cross Country world. I don't see you deleting articles about old coaches or old players, so why now with me?

Webometrics Ranking of Canadian Universities

A tag has been placed on Webometrics Ranking of Canadian Universities, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Why was my stub entry for Jeff Dyck deleted? I understand the whole A7 thing, but if so, why is there a link to the nonexistent page on the Sled Storm page? It seems strange to me that just one artist out of all of them on that soundtrack is "not notable."

The Beastmastas / User:Beastmastas

Hey Tony, I saw that you dealt with this user last month, and wanted to know what you thought should be done. This user and an IP that I suspect is the same person keep adding the same spammy text to the article, as well as a long list of every song that this group has ever worked on. I'm thinking at least a username block is in order, possibly a hardblock for adding spam despite COI warnings. GlassCobra 17:53, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Wha? Are you sure this is a hoax? GlassCobra 18:02, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Haha, it didn't sound rhetorical, my fault. I think it was the right call, though; that account had only contributed to that article, and was obviously meant for promotion. In any case, I'm not 100% sure about the article being a hoax. I know at least that one thing was legit: Jimi Kendrix really did win an ASCAP award; here is the page that they cited. GlassCobra 18:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Hm, true enough. Plus I guess that would serve more on a page about Kendrix, not for one about a group that's he a member of that we're not even sure really exists.. GlassCobra 18:32, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Seems The Beastmastas has been re-created by a User:NFluential (the name of the Beastmastas record label). Thought you might want to take a look. GlassCobra 18:47, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

If we're going to allow this to stay, should I add back some of the information from the old version? GlassCobra 20:03, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Saw that you deleted the article again per A1...you sure that's the right call? I think this definitely had enough context. Page deleted

As you know, you've deleted my entry (Toronto Pilipino Adventist Company), for blatant advertising and I would like to ask what in particular felt like advertising.

This was an entry about a church. The first and only ontario adventist church to worship in the Philippines' National language and the first to broadcast sermons in that language on the web... our denomination calls us a "company" because we are still small in number, but I can assure you this is a spiritual organization under the seventh-day adventist denomination.

Info about Maroun Baghdadi on variety.com
"BEIRUT, Lebanon -- Franco-Lebanese movie director Maroun Baghdadi, noted for his vivid portrayal of Lebanon's civil war, died Friday in Beirut. He was 43 . Police and radio reports said he plunged down an elevator shaft when the doors opened prematurely, but had no explanation for the malfunction. Baghdadi was internationally the best-known Lebanese filmmaker of his generation. He worked with American producer/director Francis Coppola and made several films in French that became hits in France. He won a Jury Prize at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival for "Hors la Vie" (Out of Life). Baghdadi is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter."

Del Vecchio (guitar maker) deletion: will track down notability info

Okay, I read through the speedy deletion article, and see that I apparently need to have all the external references in place before posting an article about a person/organization, so I'll go track down some references about Chet Atkins' use of the DV, the originality of the "Dinamico" resonator cone etc (from reputable published sources) and will then re-post. It's slightly vexing that it's essentially impossible to run a person/org stub and wait for folks to start plugging in references, but I suppose it prevents a wave of person/org stubs that will never be referenced. Hi

You deleted my Salvo D'Acquisto article, the same article which I translated word for word from the Italian wiki. As to the notability of said person there ought to be no question; here is the paragraph from the carabinieri article which is relevant. Note in particular that I did not add that text; that I had never edited the carabinieri article, in fact:

The Carabinieri are particularly proud of the memory of Brigadier Salvo D'Acquisto, who was executed by the Nazis in Palidoro, near Rome, in World War II, having exchanged his life for the lives of innocent citizens due to be executed in retaliation for the murder of a German soldier. Brigadier D'Acquisto falsely claimed responsibility and was shot for the offence.

Please restore the article. --VKokielov (talk) 17:54, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

eyeOS artcile speedy deletion

You have deleted the page of the eyeOS project, a Free OpenSource widely used software.

There are hundred or thousands publications where eyeOS appears, for example:

http://www.linux.com/feature/118113

http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/eyeos_10_launches.php

http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/11/27/eyeos-open-source-webos-for-the-masses/

http://blogs.zdnet.com/web2explorer/?p=166

http://news.softpedia.com/news/eyeOS-Interview-35721.shtml

Etc etc etc...

to be more practical, take a look at:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=eyeOS&btnG=Google+Search

Results 1 - 10 of about 470,000 for eyeOS. (0.27 seconds)

And is a finalist of the webware 100 conquest

http://www.webware.com/8301-1_109-9883960-2.html

And winner of a web revelation 2007 Yahoo award

http://www.theinquirer.es/2008/01/17/eyeos_se_lleva_el_premio_yahoo_como_web_revelacion_tecnologica_del_ano.html

And is present in many other wikipedias:

de.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

nl.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

it.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

fr.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

no.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

pt.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

ru.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

hu.wikipedia.org/EyeOS

Additionally, the project have a category in the OpenDesktop ( http://www.opendesktop.org/ ) project here:

http://eyeos-apps.org/

where hundred of people send his eyeOS-based applications.

And in addition to this, the project have his own category in softpedia:

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Internet/eyeOS-Apps/

In addition to this, the reason od the speedy deletion, was G11 (blatant advertising) but the article has parts like:

Criticism

Despite having great support from community, eyeOS also criticize for some reasons. One of them is lack of administration features such as new users don't need to activate their account after registration. It core design also make it difficult to make a good application. Another drawback is users can't drag and drop files from one folder to another.Lack of serious applications make eyeOS more a toy than a true operating system.

So, i think that is evident that this software project is widely known, that the wikipedia article english and the other wikipedia languages is maintained by the community users of this project (like me) and the article about eyeOS was not an advertising, because it have some paragraphs about criticism of the product, and the article has a technical point of view.

If someone that is not Admin want to see the article, you can see the article in the google cache here:

Twing Article Deletion Question

You recently deleted an article on Twing. In the discussion, there seemed to be some valid reasons for considering such an action. However, I thought I had addressed them, and posted the reasoning in the article's talk page. The talk page was deleted as well, but I saved a copy and I'll put that info in below, since it's unclear as to where as to do so other than . The thing is, the talk page addressed the issues of concern and there didn't seem to be any further discussion or reasoning behind deletion taking such things into account. It's possible this information wasn't considered. I'd intentionally put it in the talk page as I thought I was following instructions saying not to edit the discussion page, and it's premature to head for Misplaced Pages:Deletion review since there was no real discussion. In fact, the whole process is a bit over complicated, but it is what it is I suppose. In any case, I'll put the defense info below. If it's not accepted, what that tells me is that there's a fair amount or arbitrary application of the rules and I should instead suggest a bunch of other articles for deletion that seem to be much more in violation of the same rule sets you described for Twing.

Original defense.

  • Re: the Links concern: I have updated them to link properly.
  • Re: References Concern

+ The references concerning search engine theory, (for example Pirolli's book), mention hardly any particular engines. And are even light on examples of specific practical academic projects. They focus on the math. They're just theory for the most part; of which Twing is merely an illustration. But a reader curious as to the underpinnings of the theory behind the product's technology might be interested in this depth. In fact, it's what's notable about Twing. That it's attempting to use these concepts.

  • Notability: I've added links to articles from reputable sources indicating that others of note see this as valuable new stuff. Ironically, I'd left such links out as I'd thought them to be overly commercial as I want to focus on the theory/science, etc. and when I have time would like to add more in that regard. The reason it's notable is because it's the only specialty search going across this content vertical using this kind of advanced filtering. Not only tons of value from a marketing/user perspective, but an example of how to use advanced filtering technology to disambiguate search results in social media spaces. That is the part that's interesting.
  • Commercial/General Concerns/Fairness: Obviously, this is a commercial product. But it's not just a mashup of someone else's search fodder. The product is applying new concepts and new technology in original ways across an often ignored online social space. When one looks at some of the "me too" listings in List_of_search_engines, it would be all but unconscionable that something new like Twing.com wouldn't make the cut without seriously re-working that entire area as well.
  • Actually, the Vertical search article needs a ton of work, and I hope to get to that as well. (It's focused primarily on business vertical - which has value - but doesn't really break down the differences in vertical.) But... that's another article for another time.

Crown Partners

Please help! I'm really not trying to game the system. I'm just new to this. I had originally tried to put Crown's products on separate pages, and now see that this is in violation of how you intend to use WikiPedia.

Regarding "Crown Partners", could you please help me understand what I need to do to describe what the company is? My reasoning for putting it on WikiPedia is that it is frequently confused with Crowne Plaza and other "Crown" companies and entities. Beggars (band)

I beg (so to speak) to disagree with the deletion of this band entry. They have toured with Babyshambles, The Courtineers, and Joe Lean and the Jing, Jang, Jong. People (including myself) are looking for more information on them and when their releases are occurring. And from what I understand they are considered to be one of EMI's biggest new bands of the year. So why did you delete it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lazanski (talkcontribs) 16:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Whoops, I created CFL because I saw it existed yesterday but then I noticed you deleted it. It looks like it's been deleted several times but always ended up as a redirect; is it going to be something new this time? Gary King (talk) 17:25, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay I redirected it to CFL (disambiguation) which I would imagine was the intent of the person who requested it. Gary King (talk) 17:32, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually, scratch that - I've re-redirected to the football league because the majority of incoming links are either teams or players, or are generally looking for the league. Gary King (talk) 17:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Due to the GFDL, it is essentially never acceptable to restore only one version of an article; as you did here ; you normally need to restore all of them since creation (or recreation if created one or more times). (Sometimes, as with articles that have copyright troubles or attack issues in the history, selective restoration may be needed.) GRBerry 13:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

RE: Speedy delete request for CFL

Speedy deletion had been requested for CFL due to the outcome of a recent requested move. The consensus appears to be the disambiguation page should be located at CFL as Canadian Football League is no longer the primary topic. Earlier in the day, the request for speedy deletion was completed, but the redirect was recreated while I was, ironically, out to lunch. JPG-GR (talk) 18:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Christopher James Manners article

Hi, Tony. Regarding this article: I get no relevant Google hits on this name whatsoever. The thing is likely a hoax. Can we run it through AfD instead of trying to see if any third-party sources can be added? I'm unfamiliar with the new procedure, so I hope you'll let me impose on you to run it up for me if you would. Thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

This is why I've stopped editing wikipedia. I wrote a decent article, and it gets a deletion notice. THEN I don't even get notified that it's been deleted. I can't find any reliable sources for this person as far as notability goes. I placed an inuse tag on the article in order to help the author (who is ae harder) but, for some reason that I didn't see stated that was removed. I've run google over her and can't find anything. Isn't a holdon tag supposed to be placed on the article without removing the speedy tag or have I misunderstood that? Did I just use the wrong tag? Or is it simply a case of taking it to AfD? Marshmallow Fluff

Hi, I don't mean to be rude if I come off that way but I don't understand why my article (Marshmallow Fluff), which is still underconstruction, keeps getting redirected to "Marhsmallow Creme" which by reading it I don't understand how the article merits to stay on wikipedia though it does not show much notability and it's tone seems biased towards the product. Apatia

A question. Why did you remove the article on punk rock band Apatia, without discussing it? The fact that it does not seem notable to you is not enough. Apatia has been active for 18 years, they have played hundreds of concerts across Europe and recorded 10 LPs. In Poland they are as famous as Dead Kenedys in USA. And one more thing - why you did not inform me about deletion? This should not be the way things should be handled on Wiki. Tymek (talk) 19:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

No grudges, and thanks for happy editing wishes. Still, I have a remark. How is it possible to happy edit, when your work and time spent on it is deleted with one click of a mouse just because somebody thinks that the topic is not notable enough. I am still thinking that it is not right, surely you do not have to know about such bands as Apatia, but a little courtesy would always be appreciated. Speedy Deletion: East Kent Mavericks

Hi, you have just speedy deleted my page regarding the East Kent Mavericks. I was attempting to expand the information pertaining to the British American Football League, and provide information about one of the teams that is actively involved in that competion. I therefore fail to see how it could be considered spam (as there is no page regarding this team and the link on the BAFL page of Misplaced Pages currently leads to nothing) and the fact the pages about the league, and several other teams are already on Misplaced Pages.

As such, I am asking if you can please restore the page? In addition, if you are unhappy with the content, can you please advise why the East Kent Mavericks page is not considered Misplaced Pages material, but other teams in the BAFL are?

Thanks, EKMaverick72 (talk) 15:31, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your response. I can understand your concerns regarding the Username, and this was something I was not previously aware of. In response, I am an individual, and yes I am connected to the team (#72 is my jersey number). Perhaps a solution would be to offer my services in creating pages for the other teams that do not have one. We have a forum for the BAFL league (and I am known by the same username) and could potentially get people from interested teams to send me information. This would enable me to create various pages for other organisations and (hopefully) greatly expand the information about the league, its structure, and the teams that compete in it. Furthermore, if it is deemed necessary, I will change my username, but would rather avoid this at this point. Your advice in how to move forward is appreciated. I never associated Scarborough with Christian terrorism - that is my whole point. He merely wished to represent a Christian Terrorist - that does not make him one anymore than Cochran is a fellow wife killer. If you think I've assoc Scarborough with CT than every defense lawyer is assoc with their clients' crimes?? Doesn't ring true to me. Would it be wrong to say that "Johnnie defended OJ, later found liable for the death of his wife." I don' think so.

Griffin was a not a lone deluded man (well he may have been deluded). See this articele http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9807E2DC113AF936A35750C0A962958260 He is very much connected with Rescue America a Christian national group. Yes I will add this to the Griffin's talk page. Kek15 (talk) 16:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

The man in the NY Times article who is identified as Griffin's teacher, advisor and the local leader of Rescue America: "Mr. Burt, a 55-year-old minister and former member of the Ku Klux Klan...." In the Christian Terrorism article, there is a picture of the KKK burning a cross at the top of the article and there is a section devoted to the KKK within the article. The KKK is one of several Christian terrorist organizations discussed in the article. Kek15 (talk) 17:14, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I have included the NY Times article as the first External Link in the Michael F. Griffin article. Can we agree that this belongs? If so, should I count on your support should people start removing it? (I give it about 15 minutes to disappear.) Kek15 (talk) 18:05, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. I take your editing of the link as approval. And TheProf is correct. The Scarborough page is safe - from me. Kek15 (talk) 18:10, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Does Wiki not support Canadian Musicians?

I just created an article on A Canadian Music producer, who "isn't" notable? Not only has we worked with many local talent, he just recently worked with a major recording artist? Does wiki not support Canadian entertainers? I'm very disappointed with this choice, seeing as how a member from UK can add for speedy deletion before I'm finished the first sentence? I guess we should let Cale Gibson know he isn't notable enough to be feature.

Speedy Deletion on Jet Train and Victory Airlines

Just to use your logic; the article on Skybus Airlines and Pro Air should presumably be deleted as well. They have no value because they do not say why they were significant...

I created the articles on Jet Train and Victory Airways because they are relevant to a market (Pittsburgh) that has seen many airline startups, concepts, and failures in the last fifteen years. In addition, they are demonstrative of a type of company that has its roots in the 1990s era of high priced major airline markets and that grabbed a toehold in the post 9/11 airline industry turmoil (ala Jet Blue and Valujet-known more commonly as Air Tran after its merger). These companies (and others) set the way towards the ultra cheap airfares many travelers enjoy in this decade, therefore I think these articles are relevant.

Hi, thanks for your help up to this point. I was wondering, is it possible to submit a page to be looked at to see if it meets guidelines. At present, I am unable to do this without the page being deleted. If I could submit it to an individual or organisation, this would then enable to correct any issues without loosing previous work (and the knock-on effect that is done to the user history i suspect). TheProf

This is unbelievable. This is the guy who brought me into Misplaced Pages and encouraged me to get an account. He defended me against verbal attacks on the Scarborough talk page and then posted to AN and is now paying the price. Seicer blocked him AFTER he retired. This is wrong. What follows is an excerpt from Seicer's talk page from a couple of days ago.

Just a little note about the whole Griffin & Scarborough content dispute between Kek15 and everybody else. Kek15 is a newbie who is showing potencial. I am completly neutral on the issue with that term and links being used in the articles. I was (and still am) only interested in the consensus. At the moment the consensus is that this term does break wikipedias policy. So i welcome the term not being included in the articles. I was concerned that users (not just you) were assuming bad faith on the part of Kek15, thats why i defended him. I hope we can now put this behind us, as i am meant to be on a wiki-break. I will still try and help mediate the issue, if it comes up again. But i want you to know; We are on the same side! The side of policy, consensus and, most importantly, Misplaced Pages! Cheers and have a nice day! :-) TheProf - T / C 13:57, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Any user who decides that going the route of filing an "abuse" complaint against a long-standing and respected administrator at Administrators' Noticeboard instead of seeking consensus through discussion is a negative in my book. While the user may be new, the insertions of potentially libelous statements in violation of policy is always a concern -- and it's always best to play it safe by removing the said comment -- even if it may be so sourced with what is a rather disputed source. Consensus or not, if it is in violation of policy, then it needs to be removed. In addition, I can't find said consensus. seicer | talk | contribs 14:06, 21 April 2008 (UTC) Kek15 (talk) 17:05, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I realize TheProf vandalized his tormentor's user page and this would make it hard to defend him; however I guess a 20-year-old kid can only take so much. His post to the AN was not unfair at all. In that thread I predicted that this sort of abuse by admins would drive away good editors. (He was being tag teamed.) It certainly is taking the joy out of it for me. Misplaced Pages has lost a good editor and vandalism fighter - the kid had a lot of spirit. He'll probably be back. I may just continue on as a user and skip the editing. Children Of Bali

Hi again,

I had a quick read of the articles you sent me and I should be able to fulfill them all. I'll do some more research, we are a registered charity, can demonstrate independant secondary sources etc... But I'll read more to make sure.

May be time to update the script...

I'm referring specifically to this closing rationale in light of this. Keep up the good work :) Xymmax (talk) 15:49, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Heh, I was referring to the "non admin close" part of rationale. I should have linked directly to the Afd, it would have made more sense. Sorry. Xymmax (talk) 15:55, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Poking tickles! ;)

Thanks for saving me time, I intended to get to doing those when I had a moment. !Voting is much less time consuming at the moment. Happy Friday! TRAVELLINGCARITell me yours 16:17, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Jeff Hitchcock

seconds after creating the page it was deleted (G11). why!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payam7777777 (talkcontribs) 16:51, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Since G11 is referenced, I'm going to guess that it was blatant advertising. See WP:CSD for details.  Frank  |  talk  16:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
i know it's hard to manage thousands of pages and mistakes can happen and all, but this is just not right. seconds after creating the page (Jeff Hitchcock) it was deleted (G11:Blatant advertising !!!!!). excuse me!?
Sorry for butting in here but you must familiarise yourself with WP:BIO before writing an article which seems quite a blatant plug for its own goods. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
what on earth made you think i was advertising!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payam7777777 (talkcontribs) 17:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

great!

CobaltBlueTony™: "articles with multiple external links imbedded into the text are regarded as advertising."

well, great! so much for the wikipedia. so that's it: external links = advertising . such a pantyhose (one size fits all) judement/solution! just fyi, Jeff Hitchcock who i was trying to introduce is the founder of the awarded best medical website in the world. reconsider your decision for gods sake! without making me read dozens of laws and regulations and policy pages and having to talk online with half a dozen well intended administrators, or omiting the external links. the main link i provided is to a website considered a godsend to hundreds of thousands of parents of children with diabetes. i shall omit other links though. do your research/homework first, THEN press the delete button. i'm just about to give up. send your answer to my talk page please. i was a wikipedia editing virgin until just now an find it a bit too difficult to follow answers elsewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Payam7777777 (talkcontribs) 17:33, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Pseudo-admin Terpterp

You did it right, IMHO. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:00, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Not that either of you asked, but...it looked good to me too. We don't need these types of attitudes around here.  Frank  |  talk  21:03, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
