This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Most of the people in the list made well over 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left:

  • People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain for editing for at least two weeks, are more likely to have left.
  • Wait at least several weeks before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
  • In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
  • Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list.
  • Missing Wikipedians should, as a rule, be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.

Missing Wikipedians

  • -- April (talk · contribs · count) - last edit Dec 02, 2003.
    • She has a couple edits in 2004 and 2005. Just busy elsewhere, it seems (see her user page.)
  • 168... (talk · contribs · count) blanked his user page and was presumed to have left on March 7 2004 following disputes arising from the handling of "subvandalism" (see e.g. DNA)
  • Abigail-II (talk · contribs · count), left 13 June 2004, blanked talk page and left message on Village Pump, explaining that too many people were deleting material without discussion on talk pages. "I've no interest in working on a system where people break down your work without discussing it on appropriate page."
  • Amgine (talk · contribs · count) Has ended active involvement in en:Misplaced Pages due to the Matter of CheeseDreams in which the user was harassed, stalked, group-reverted, admins abused their privileges - and there was no mention by the arbcom. The system is gamed.
  • Ark30inf (talk · contribs · count) left on October 24 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004. "I then returned in late 2004 and tried to stick to just editing Arkansas articles to avoid stupid conflicts. Its an area that nobody appeared interested in at all. Then I got jumped on for the way I categorized my articles and all of them reverted before I even was given an opportunity to discuss the way I categorized my articles. I stepped on someone's pet peeve and they didn't feel like waiting to hear what I had to say. It was somehow URGENT to revert all the Arkansas categorization for some reason. Screw it. Thats my LAST attempt at Misplaced Pages."
  • Brandon.irwin (talk · contribs · count) left on July 23, 2004, saying he felt that the project was fraught too much with errors and inconsistencies.
  • Corvus13 (talk · contribs · count) "Fine. I give up. Delete everything I've ever written. There appears to be some personal thing here where if you're not part of the clique, you're not welcome. Goodbye."
  • Danakil (talk · contribs · count) this extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 Aug to 13 Sep, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, concerning name changes to computer related articles. Despite having earned the enmity of quite a few of my fellow nerd-o-nauts, Danakil was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles. His work will be remembered and missed.
  • Dori (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 20 Mar 2005. "I've gotten tired of the English Misplaced Pages. It's gotten so big that I would have to spent most of my time reverting bad edits to pages on my watchlist, and that's not fun. I'll probably be back, but not until a stable branch is launched."
  • Faedra (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 1 January 2005. "This contributor is currently under the impression that Wikipeia is a complete waist of time. (except for a spelling lesson)."
  • Filiocht (talk · contribs · count) - took a wikibreak on 1 July 2005, took a longer wikibreak on 26 July 2005, left a message on his talk page on 18 August 2005: "I just came back to have a look around today because I was sort of missing the old place. Nothing I have seen has made me want to start contributing again, and two things have confirmed me in my belief that my life is better without the Wikihassle. ... I'm off now and will not be back anytime soon."
  • Fonzy (talk · contribs · count) - retired May 2004: " I don't like change much (which some will probably know or guess why). I preferred Misplaced Pages more when it was smaller and I felt part of a mob."
  • Gadykozma (talk · contribs · count) - Stated he was "taking wikivacation, probably permanent" on 22 Nov 2004. Last edit 21 Dec 2004.
  • Gianfranco (talk · contribs · count) disappeared in February 2003 after making thousands of contributions in the English Misplaced Pages.
  • GK (talk · contribs · count) leaving on 14 January, 2005 with a note: "It took me way too long to realize the underlying facts about the way the Misplaced Pages works. In this libertarian anarchy, any process is only as functional as it's most dysfunctional participant. What that means is that in too many areas the inmates are in charge of the asylum."
  • Grunt (talk · contribs · count) went on Wikivacation on June 20, 2005, then returned and made several dozen edits before deleting his user page on July 3, 2005. He has not been back since.
  • Hedley (talk · contribs · count) - Declared leaving on 2nd August, 2005. Was administrator with over 2,500 edits. Was sick of Misplaced Pages.
  • Hephaestos (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 8 May 2005 - has decided to leave after all. See his user page.
    • We're (other users) so sorry to that hear you're leaving and we understand how much you're tired of being around here. You must have been a contributor though, except when you reverted the edits on any article. I apologized for vandalizing part of your user page (if I did), but I didn't over times before you left this site. We miss you, please come back anytime! -- Mike Garcia | talk 00:59, 3 May 2005
  • Imran (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit: 3rd November, 2004 to say "Note: I am (as of Sept 04) currently inactive on Misplaced Pages".
  • Isis (talk · contribs · count) (February 2003) - got into a legal dispute with another contributor and quit over it
  • Jorge Stolfi (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 16 Dec 2004 - once a prolific contributor, was offered Adminship with only a few months as a registered user, but declined nomination. His contributions then started to scarce, until ceasing completely in the above-mentioned date. Reasons for departure are unknown, although it is possible that professional obligations may be keeping him away from the project.
  • Jose Ramos (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 23 Mar 2004, not known why. Now back after a vacation under a new psuedonym, only being disclosed to selected Wikipedians though.
  • Kimiko (talk · contribs · count) - contributor since summer 2003, blanked her user and talk pages in Feb 2005.
  • Lizard King (talk · contribs · count) Told me by email he has chosen to leave the wikipedia due to the harassment he received over contributing his drawings and sketches. Sam Spade 06:24, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • A few edits in February of this year, but no other activity since then. --Chanting Fox 4 July 2005 02:12 (UTC)
  • Lypheklub (talk · contribs · count) - had his request for adminship rejected because he had not been here long enough, and left shortly thereafter.
  • ManuelGR (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 25 July 2005 - does not usually edit on the English Misplaced Pages, his usual work is the Spanish Misplaced Pages
  • Marnanel (talk · contribs · count) - Last (logged in) edit: 18 Sep 2004. Left in solidarity with his wife when she was insulted less than a week after she started editing. Come back, Marn - don't let the buggers get you down.
  • Mintguy (talk · contribs · count) - last edit: 13 Nov 2004. "It has stopped being fun. The lunatics are taking over the asylum." See his userpage for more information
  • Notheruser (talk · contribs) left on 17 August 2003 giving no reason, but stating "I'm taking an indefinite break from Misplaced Pages."
    • Very sad. Notheruser was a great contributer. Ilyanep 17:00, 25 Jan 2004 (UTC)
    • He has returned on June 4, 2005.
  • Optim (talk · contribs · count): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Misplaced Pages in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. Sam Spade 04:03, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)
  • Rbs (talk · contribs · count) - has not posted since March 11, 2004. No explanation. I hope he is ok, and that he returns soon. Kingturtle 00:41, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • Did some editing in July and again in September. Probably not "missing", just an infrequent denizen of the wiki. Isomorphic 00:10, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Renata (talk · contribs · count) - Once a regular contributor now a long term dissapearee. Last edit 1 Mar 2004
  • RickK (talk · contribs · count) - One of the most active administrators on recent changes patrol, blanked his talk page and left a rather bitter goodbye message on his user page. His exit came after a revert war where he was removing a copyright violation, in which he was blocked for violating the three revert rule by a fellow administrator.
  • Skellam (talk · contribs · count) - blanked his userpage and unsubscribed from WikiProject on 16 Nov 2004; no reason given. JFW | T@lk 18:01, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Southpark (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 2 May 2005 - doesn't usually edit around here, but continuous his/her work at German Misplaced Pages.
  • Ugen64 (talk · contribs · count) - Left in late June 2005, with the user page stating the reason "It's not worth it anymore, dealing with certain people. I came here to write an encyclopedia; I ended up watching certain idiots (not all of those people, mind you) pursue their idiotic crusades. Go ahead, ban me indefinitely for a personal attack - you know you want to. Goodbye, everyone. Hope this whole "💕" thing works out." Now allegedly edits anonymously.
  • Vancouverguy (talk · contribs · count) - On Feb. 20, 2004 , "I think I've officially "disappeared" now. You can call me a "missing Wikipedian" although I might edit anonymously."
  • Zestauferov (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit: 1 September, 2004. Brief return on March 19, 2005 to update User and User talk pages.
  • º¡º (talk · contribs · count) aka BigFatBuddha (talk · contribs · count) - Last contribution 4 May 2003. Left comment on Talk page: "I've wandered far afield, and am likely not to return. My illusions were reduced when I found the mailing list, and found how little was thought of me."

See also Misplaced Pages drop-outs for some more detail on some past "drop-outs" and Wikistress for some suggestions on how to avoid burning out and needing to leave in the first place.
