Robin Hood

Hi Yorkshirian, how about disussing the Robin Hood introduction on the talk page? You'll be glad to know I have read the references you cite, you might like to re-read them yourself! Regards, Jeremy (talk) 04:41, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

you say "vandalism," consensus says "good faith"

Hey Yorkshirian, if you keep calling good faith edits vandalism you will sooner or later get blocked. This is still some ways from happening but you can't keep doing this without stirring up all kinds of woe. This is a description of what's called vandalism on Misplaced Pages. Edits you don't agree with, edits you think are stupid or clumsy, unsourced or boneheaded, are not vandalism, even if they seem so amazingly dumb to you that so far as you care, they are vandalism. Nobody is asking you to change your way of thinking, only your way of editing. You can think of all Misplaced Pages as one big docking act of vandalism but please, don't describe good faith edits as vandalism in edit summaries or on talk pages. Keep it to yourself, you'll get a lot more done here. All the best to you! :) Gwen Gale (talk) 09:55, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Project News

Priorities are still being discussed; please join in at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire

  • Currently there are ten Yorkshire featured articles:

SheffieldHistory of SheffieldSheffield Wednesday F.C.York City F.C.M62 motorwayHenry MooreGeorge Calvert, 1st Baron BaltimoreStocksbridge Park Steels F.C.Valley ParadeCaedmon

  • There are also seven featured lists:

List of York City F.C. Clubmen of the YearList of York City F.C. managersList of York City F.C. playersYork City F.C. seasonsBradford City A.F.C. seasonsList of York City F.C. statistics and recordsLeeds United A.F.C. seasons

Thank you and well done to all those who contributed.

  • Lealholm was nominated for GA Status on May 1st and has just received the review comments

  • WP:YORKS is a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 3343 last month to 3509 on May 28th). WP:GM has the lead in FAs. WP:YORKS is lacking in the area of GAs and falls well behind WP:LONDON. This topic was at the front of the new aims discussion and is an important issue for WP:YORKS.

  • As mentioned above, new aims have been decided. See the right hand column for more details.

Member News

There are now 45 members of WikiProject Yorkshire! A warm welcome to the 4 new members that have joined us since the May newsletter:

No users left the WikiProject this month, but the list has been trimmed to account for the one user who was permanently blocked and one who seems not to exist. There are also several who have not contributed to Misplaced Pages for some months. However it is the exam season :-)

Retiono Virginian (talk · contribs) has been permanently blocked

and

Malcolm Bryant (talk · contribs) does not seem to have registered on Misplaced Pages.(Let me know if I am wrong.)

Last month the format of the member list was altered to:

  1. allow easier editing for new members
  2. assist members to communicate more easily (by including members talk pages)
  3. allow members to keep up to date with each other's contributions

It had to be changed again before the May Newsletter went out to allow easier, more efficient, circulation by the ENewsBot. The Bot worked like magic last month but slightly complicated the signing up process, particularly for novice users.

Thanks
  • The Yorkshire Portal continues to be maintained by User:Kaly99 once again, thank you. There has been a number of suggestions on the ToDo list and this has been kept up to date too.
  • The football and rugby editors have to be congratulated for keeping abreast of most. if not all, of the top clubs.
  • User:Cyberdemon007 has made a lot of edits to North Yorkshire settlement infoboxes. Thank you.
  • There have been more WikiProkject Yorkshire editors on vandal patrol on watchlist , just lately. Thanks it's really good to know that you have others in support.
  • A big "thank you" to all the editors who help make this WikiProject what it is; no edit goes unnoticed. If you patrol the recent changes regularly you "get to know" the editors and their specialities quite well.

New Aims

After discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:WikiProject Yorkshire.

Specific aims for the project are:-

  • To complete tagging and assessment of all Yorkshire related articles
  • To recruit more active editors
  • To bring our top level article Yorkshire up to Featured article status
  • To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
  • To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive
  • To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members

The top priority articles that have been identified to date and their current ratings are as follows -

The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.

Don't Forget...
  • Monitor
Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism can be removed as quickly as possible.
  • Images!
There is a shortage of good images in Yorkshire related articles, particularly on pages about smaller settlements. A good place to start would be the requested photographs category but please remember that there are many articles not within this category that have the same need. A good old holiday picture of The Spa, Bridlington would be a useful addition to the article.
  • Assessment
"Assess and review Assessment of Yorkshire related articles has been brought up to date recently, but needs constant maintenance.
  • Last but not Least...
Please remember that the list of stubs needing expansion is in permanent need of attention. Please take a look and see what you can do. One small edit each session would make a big difference.

License tagging for Image:Angeln.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Angeln.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Misplaced Pages uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Misplaced Pages.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:07, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:LeedsCityArms.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:LeedsCityArms.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Arbitration Request Filed

Hi there. This notice is to inform you that a Request for Arbitration has been filed regarding the ongoing cultural dispute between yourself and several other editors. The Arbitration Committee will decide on whether this case should be heard and pursued. Thank you. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:46, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:HS LL in Yorkshire

Template:HS LL in Yorkshire has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. — MRSCTalk 17:38, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Your personal attacks on other editors

I have copied this message from the principal talk page which alerted me to this (Talk:Association of British Counties‎) I note the personal attacks you have made in this discussion. I took a look at your editing history today as a result, and found numerous examples of bad-faith assumptions in material you have edited and edit summaries, including an allegation on a TfD comment that was certainly unacceptable. I am advising you publically now that if you persist in doing this, you will be blocked until you give an undertaking to stop your personal attacks. I will copy this message to your talk page. If you feel the need to send a message to me, it should necessarily include as a major part of it words to the effect of "I apologize" and "I promise not to indulge in personal attacks again", and such sentiments should also be included in messages you leave to the editors you have treated like this.  DDStretch  (talk) 22:31, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

I have blocked you indefinately, given your response on my talk page in the light of all your previous noted acts of personally attacking others. Until and unless you are prepared to give an undertaking to stop doing so, I will not lift the block. I will inform the RfC and the Arbcom procedings about this.  DDStretch  (talk) 08:09, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Request for Unblock

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Yorkshirian (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

DDStretch has violated the Misplaced Pages:Banning policy by banning me indefinetly because he does not agree with my personal stances. He claims his reason for blocking me is "personal attacks" and "harassment" despite providing absoutely no diffs to prove either. And in fact on his talkpage, I pointed out to him that I was being harrassed. On the basis that DDStretch has gone through non of the proper channels and is blatantly discriminating against me, I request to be unblocked. This user is a completey inexperienced admin (only gaining powers last week) and is apparently not familiar with any of our policies, in light of that his mistake can be forgiven once the block is lifted. - Yorkshirian (talk) 08:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I was considering doing something similar to this myself and I am completely uninvolved. The indef remains until the community decides what it wants to do about you. — Viridae 08:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user is asking that their block be reviewed:

Yorkshirian (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

The Community process on Arbitration has no way to conclude until I have filled out my section on it. Which I cannot do as I have, wrongly (as per the official Banning policy) been blocked, with no diffs provided as evidence for what DDStretch is accusing me of. DDStretch's only rationale is apparently that he likes Jza and not me, which is not how policy words. - Yorkshirian (talk) 08:46, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Notes:

  • In some cases, you may not in fact be blocked, or your block has already expired. Please check the list of active blocks. If no block is listed, then you have been autoblocked by the automated anti-vandalism systems. Please remove this request and follow these instructions instead for quick attention by an administrator.
  • Please read our guide to appealing blocks to make sure that your unblock request will help your case. You may change your request at any time.
Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, replace this template with the following, replacing "blocking administrator" with the name of the blocking admin:

{{Unblock on hold |1=blocking administrator |2=The Community process on Arbitration has no way to conclude until I have filled out my section on it. Which I cannot do as I have, wrongly (as per the official Banning policy) been blocked, with no diffs provided as evidence for what DDStretch is accusing me of. DDStretch's only rationale is apparently that he likes Jza and not me, which is not how policy words. - ] (]) 08:46, 27 June 2008 (UTC) |3 = ~~~~}}

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following code, substituting {{subst:Decline reason here}} with a specific rationale. Leaving the decline reason unchanged will result in display of a default reason, explaining why the request was declined.

{{unblock reviewed |1=The Community process on Arbitration has no way to conclude until I have filled out my section on it. Which I cannot do as I have, wrongly (as per the official Banning policy) been blocked, with no diffs provided as evidence for what DDStretch is accusing me of. DDStretch's only rationale is apparently that he likes Jza and not me, which is not how policy words. - ] (]) 08:46, 27 June 2008 (UTC) |decline = {{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following, substituting Accept reason here with your rationale:

{{unblock reviewed |1=The Community process on Arbitration has no way to conclude until I have filled out my section on it.
