Hypnotize is the fifth album by System of a Down and the second half of the Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album. It will be released on November 22, 2005, six months after the release of companion album Mezmerize.
Release Date
According to MTV.com, the album thought to be released on these dates for 2005: January 18; March 1 or 15 and April 26 when the album was rumoured to be first and Mezmerize rumoured to be last. Later in early spring, these reports were not likely to prove true and then the albums switched by opposite: Mezmerize on first and Hypnotize on last.
The release date, which was previously thought to be September 27, has now been confirmed to be somewhere around November according to a recent interview with Serj Tankian :
musicOMH.com: Are you still planning to release the follow-up disc, Hypnotize, in the next couple months? Hopefully all the SOAD fans have had enough time to process Mezmerize by then, right?
Serj: Yes, sometime in November.
Also, in the band's Summer-Autumn tour 2005, flyers advertising Hypnotize's release date as November were given out to the crowds.
Launch Radio Networks reported that System of a Down are considering November 15 as the release date for Hypnotize.
On September 20, 2005, Billboard.com published an article saying Hypnotize will be released on November 22, 2005. It also gave the complete track list (see below).
Songlist
The tracks from Hypnotize, according to Billboard.com, are:
- "Attack"
- "Dreaming"
- "Kill Rock 'n' Roll"
- "Hypnotize"
- "Stealing Society"
- "Tentative"
- "U-Fig"
- "Holy Mountains"
- "Vicinity of Obscenity"
- "She's Like Heroin"
- "Lonely Day"
- "Soldier Side"
There have already been two live bootlegs of the songs "Kill Rock 'N' Roll" and "Holy Mountain" leaked on to the internet. "Kill Rock 'N' Roll" is a song much like "Cigaro" from Mezmerize and "Holy Mountain" is much like "Aerials" from Toxicity. In addition to this, a video showing snippets of the band playing unreleased songs (pre-Mezmerize) at a 2005 Big Day Out concert in New Zealand has been made. The video features a snippet of "Tentative", an unknown interlude to "War?" (possibly a new song) and other songs. The clip can be viewed here
