Buggy (バギー, ''Bagī''), who was originally intended to be called 'Boogie',{{Fact|date=August 2008}} accidentally consumed the Bara Bara no Mi, which allows him to separate his body parts and control them independent of each other. The abilities gained from this fruit also make Buggy immune to attacks from knives or swords; any such attack just separates him into his component parts. In addition, most of his body is capable of flying through the air, fast enough to propel a man through a wall - with the crucial exception of his feet. However, even though the parts are separate, Buggy can still feel what the part feels. Besides his Devil fruit abilities he usually fights with three knives between his fingers. During the flashbacks of his youth he already used these three knives. He also has a blade hidden in his shoe. He earned himself a 15 million beli bounty. With him most of the time are his second and first mates, Cabaji (カバジ, ''Kabaji''), the acrobatics using swordsman, Mohji (モージ, ''Mōji'') the animal tamer, and Mohji's pet lion Richie (リチー, ''Richī'').

Using the talents of {{nihongo|Doktor Hogback|ドクトル・ホグバック|Dokutoru Hogubakku}}, a doctor obsessed with the study of bringing people back to life, he is able to implant shadows of other pirates into corpses salvaged by Hogback. This allows for nearly invincible warriors that completely obey Moria. After being defeated by the Straw Hats, he is forced to return all of the shadows and flee Thriller Bark, though the World Government still accepts him as one of the warlords. {{nihongo|Gecko Moria|ゲッコー・モリア|Gekkō Moria}} first appears in ''One Piece'' Chapter 449, as the captain of the enormous ship '']'' and a member of the ], with a 320 million beli bounty formerly on his head. "Koumori" means "bat" in Japanese. He is extremely large and has a devil-like appearance, but is also exceptionally lazy. Moria ate the Devil Fruit Kage Kage no Mi (Shadow Shadow Fruit), giving him control over his own shadow as well as the ability to manipulate the shadows of other things and beings and switch places with his shadow. Moria can place a stolen shadow into a corpse, creating a zombie that is totally obedient to him. Prior to his appearance in the story, Moria fought on the same level as the Yonkou Kaidou, but his crew was killed. This results in Moria's desire to create an army of zombies to fight for him, as they cannot be killed without the aid of salt. He is defeated by ], making him the second Shichibukai Luffy has beaten. His former bounty is the second highest yet revealed. He was not stripped of his status such as Sir Crocodile was due to lack of witnesses,(pirates would not be counted as adequate witnesses) Sengoku merely said that they will keep him for now and he would be dealt with later.

====Iron-Mask Duval====
* Seiyuu:
* Voice Actor (]):
A tall yet skinny man that was once a boss of a small town's mafia until the day that Sanji's bounty poster was released, in which, Duval's face greatly resembles ]'s poorly drawn bounty poster (however his eyebrow swirls in the wrong direction). As a result, Duval was chased by the Marines and bounty hunters even though he was not a pirate. He develops a grudge against Sanji for 'ruining his life'. He created the Flying Fish Riders as a means of finding him. To hide away his identity he dons a large armor and mask, giving him the appearance of a very large man. He wields a harpoon gun that fires numerous scorpion poison harpoons simultaneously. He rides his pet, Motobaro for transport. He has a large scar on his back from a Marine attack on him while he was escaping his old residence. After Sanji performs the Parage Shot on Duval, permanently altering his face, he becomes very vain and very grateful to Sanji.

Duval's pet "]". He is a gigantic animal with enough strength to easily destroy Duval's hut. Duval uses him both for a battle mount and for transportation. Morobaro becomes unconscious when Luffy faced him eye to eye, in a scene that foreshadows Luffy gaining the same power of 'presence' also displayed by Shanks and Rayleigh. Motobaro is able to swim with the aid of a scuba mask, which allows Duval to use him for travel on water; however, due to his size, he is incredibly slow in water.

Satori of the Forest (森のサトリ, ''Mori no Satori'') is the first priest encountered by the Straw Hats, who fights using cloud spheres with effects, from explosions and shooting blades to singing birds and flowers and an Impact Dial, which absorbs the force of an attack and releases it back at the attacker.With Mantra, he can predict what his enemies are going to do before they do it. His ordeal has a 10% chance of survival.

====Shura====

"Sky Boss" Gedatsu (空番長ゲダツ, ''Kūbanchō Gedatsu'', romanized as Gedatz in the English dub), is the third priest, who punishes criminals with the Ordeal of Swamp. "Gedatsu" (解脱) is the Japanese word for '']'', which in ] and Buddhist tradition is the liberation of the soul.

He can create dense clouds from his hands that his opponents drown in. He also has a Jet Dial attached to his arm, giving him a very fast and powerful punch, and Milky Dials in his shoes that allow him to fly. His ordeal has a 50% chance of survival.

====Gecko Moria====
{{main|Gecko Moria}}

====Dr. Hogback====
* Seiyuu: ]
{{nihongo|Doktor Hogback|ドクトル・ホグバック|Dokutoru Hogubakku}} is a world famous doctor, who according to Chopper saved as many people as there are stars in the sky. One day he disappeared from the public eye, causing turmoil in the medical community. Nami, Usopp and Chopper meet him on Thriller Bark, and he explains to them that he is researching the nature of life and death using the zombies on the island. This is later exposed as a lie when the crew discovers that Hogback himself created the zombies, and is a crew mate of Gecko Moria, who breathes life into Hogback's zombies with the shadows he steals. Like many other characters in One Piece, Hogback has a unique laugh, which is a high-pitched ''fosfosfosfos''.Dr. Hogback's dream was to create the world's strongest zombie as well as bringing Cindry back to life. Both of these dreams have been fulfilled thanks to Moria's powers.

After learning Hogback's secret, Chopper resents his experiments in zombification for being intended for personal gain rather than the progress of medical science. During his battle against Chopper and Robin, Hogback reveals that he never cared about saving lives and the reason he went into hiding was because so many people were coming to him seeking treatment, and that he became a doctor only for the money. He almost dies during Oz's rampage on Thriller Bark, when he tries to speak with the giant zombie but is crushed under his massive foot. However, Hogback survives from the attack, and it is later seen escaping from Thriller Bark with Absalom and a knocked out Moria in a ship.

====Absalom====
* Seiyuu: ]
Nicknamed {{nihongo|Absalom of the Graveyard|墓場のアブサロム|Hakaba no Abusaromu}}, he is one of Gecko Moria's henchmen. He commands the soldier sect of zombies on Thriller Bark, and his subordinates have a tendency of making fun of his perverted nature, referring to him as "Erosalom" (Perv-salom). Although first revealed as an invisible man, his true form is that of a man with various animal parts surgically implanted onto his person by Dr. Hogback. These animal parts include a lion's face, the thick skin of an elephant and the condensed muscles of various bears and gorillas. He has eaten the Suke Suke no mi, which allows him to turn invisible on demand and to turn objects or persons invisible if he touches them. Incidentally, this devil fruit was Sanji's childhood dream. He uses this ability to conceal a pair of bazookas strapped to his arms, which allows him to fire blasts which seem to to come from nowhere. The blasts are incredibly powerful, capable of mowing down trees and setting fiery explosions. Like many other characters in One Piece, Absalom has a unique laugh, his is a growl-like ''garurururu''.

He kidnaps Nami and attempts to marry her, but is stopped by Sanji. He fights with Sanji for a while, and Sanji defeats him, landing kicks so powerful that his thick skin failed to save him. He later recovers and tries to take Nami as his bride again, but this time he is finally defeated by Nami with a a Thunder Charge:Swing Arm, since he was badly injured after the previous fight with Sanji. After the defeat of Moria, he escapes Thriller Bark with Hogback and Moria.

====Perona====
* Seiyuu: ]
Nicknamed the Ghost Princess, {{nihongo|Perona|ぺローナ}} Perona is a girl dressed in the style of ] and a commander in the army of Gecko Moria. She is also the commander of "Perona's Wonder Garden, where an army of animal zombies live and protect her. She loots the ] with some zombies and later takes on guard duty while Absalom is attempting to marry Nami. She cannot stand anything that she feels is not cute, such as insects. Perona's dream is to have her own country made up of cute zombie animals with her as their leader. Like many other characters in One Piece, Perona has a unique laugh, which is ''horohorohoro''.

Perona has eaten the Horo Horo no Mi, which allows her to create several ghostly apparitions. The ghosts can pass through someone to cause them to go into a sort of induced depression. Other versions of these ghosts can be used as extremely powerful bombs and vary in size. Aside from being able to create ghosts, Perona herself is also able to use ghostly powers such as flight, intangibility, and size manipulation, however, in order to do so Perona must leave her physical body. She is defeated by Usopp, who is the only person immune to her "hollow" attacks, because he claims he is already negative.

She later awakens and decides to flee Thriller Bark in the wake of Oz's rampage. After loading the Straw Hat's ship with food and treasure, she is confronted by Bartholomew Kuma. Perona attempts to capture the ] for Gecko Moria, but is transported to an unknown location by Kuma.

====Oz====
]
*Seiyuu: ]
The 'Special Zombie' known as {{nihongo|Oz|オーズ|Ōzu}} is the 900th zombie created by Dr. Hogback for Gecko Moria. His physical appearance is that of a red, massive, horned creature even larger than a normal giant. In his past life he was known as 'the Demon of the Frozen Land', having conquered and mercilessly ruled over many countries and islands over five-hundred years ago. His 'rebirth' as a zombie is an event of great importance to the crew of Thriller Bark. In order to make Oz the strongest zombie ever created, Gecko Moria implants Luffy's shadow into the zombie's body.

Having Luffy's shadow in his body, Oz's attacks have names similar to Luffy's moves (Gomu Gomu no Scythe, Gomu Gomu no Volcano). Though he is initially incapable of stretching his body, he gains this ability when Gecko Moria takes control of his body. Despite his immense size, Oz is extremely fast, moving so quick that he almost disappears for an instant before unleashing an attack. Making matters worse, small doses of salt have no effect on him because of his size. These characteristics gave the Straw Hats an immensely hard time when fighting him, to the point where they were almost defeated until Luffy showed up in his guise as 'Nightmare Luffy'. As Nightmare Luffy, Luffy is able to thrash Oz soundly, but the giant zombie still manages to remain conscious when the time limit for the shadows stored in Luffy's body is up.

Oz is ultimately defeated by the combined efforts of the entire Straw Hat crew, in which Nami, Usopp, and Franky freeze his legs to keep him still while several other Straw Hats force his spine into an upright position. Finally, Luffy activates Gear Third, and shatters his spine with a full force "Gomu Gomu no Gigant Bazooka", rendering him immobile. He is rendered completely lifeless after Gecko Moria absorbs the shadows of all of the Thriller Bark zombies.

His name is the Japanese name for the Norse god ].

Eiichiro Oda's shōnen manga One Piece (ワンピース, Wan Pīsu) and the anime series based upon it, that has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since August 4, 1997, revolves around vast numbers of pirates, trying to reach the end of the Grand Line, in hope of finding the legendary treasure One Piece. With over 140 million copies sold, One Piece is the third highest selling manga in the history of Weekly Shōnen Jump. One of the reasons for One Piece's success is its appealing cast of main characters, who once introduced, appear in virtually every chapter.

The One Piece universe, comprising, besides the manga and anime, of a number of games and novels, has an extensive list of characters, but only a limited number of these characters have a major influence on the overall story. The universe also contains a whole host of minor characters, but these characters are of much lesser significance within isolated areas of the general story. As by the nature of One Piece, most of its characters are needed as one time opponents. They are introduced, get involved in a fight, are beaten and never seen again. Other characters often play roles only in the past of one of the main characters and if at all still alive don't interact with them during the story's present.

The protagonists of the One Piece series are part of the same pirate crew, named after their captains trademark symbol, the Straw Hat Pirates. During the course of the story, the group constantly grows. For each new protagonist, that is introduced, the characters past is explored, its problems are solved, and it finaly and officially joins the crew, which is marked by Oda, through a chapter title paged devoted to that character.

All Straw Hat members have at least one talent in which they are virtually perfect, and several (especially the captain, swordsman, shipwright and cook) have inhuman strength.

Each member of the Straw Hats has a dream they want to achieve. These dreams are their reasons for joining Luffy's crew, and essentially the driving force behind their lives. Each Straw Hat's dream was inspired by tragedies in their lives that involved at least one person they idolized or cared for deeply.

Major Antagonists

Buggy the Clown

Buggy the Clown (道化のバギー, Dōke no Bagī) is the captain of the Buggy Pirates and a former member of Gold Roger's crew. He has the power of the Chop Chop Fruit, which allows him to separate his body parts, control them independent of each other, and levitate them with the exception of his feet. The abilities gained from this fruit also make Buggy immune to attacks from knives or swords; any such attack just separates him into his component parts. During his time in Gold Roger's crew, he had a rivalry with Shanks, and he wished to find a treasure lost in the sea. Shanks accidentally forced Buggy to eat the fruit, thus rendering his goal impossible and causing him to completely hate Shanks. He is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese media, David Wills in the 4Kids English dub, and Mike McFarland in the Funimation English dub.

Buggy's first mate is Mohji (モージ, Mōji) the animal tamer with his pet lion, Richie (リチー, Richī), and his second mate is Cabaji (カバジ, Kabaji), an acrobatics using swordsman. The former captain, Alvida (アルビダ, Arubida), joins Buggy after being defeated by Luffy. Though formerly obese, she gains the power of the Slip Slip Fruit, which makes her thin and allows attack to easily slip off her. She is named after the Scandinavian female pirate Awilda.

Kuro

Kuro (クロ, Kuro), known as "Kuro of the Thousand Plans" for his elaborate plans that virtually never failed, he earned a 16 million beli bounty on his head. He has super-human speed with which to deliver his attacks. Jango is first introduced as his former first mate and successor as captain of the Black Cat Pirates.

Don Krieg

Don Krieg (首領・クリーク, Don Kurīku) is (militarily) the most powerful pirate in the East Blue, denoted by the 17 million belli bounty on his head. Krieg is well known for underhanded tactics; when he was first starting out as a pirate, he stole a Navy ship and under the disguise of a navy flag, approached towns without suspicion. He does not care for his crew and bullies them to fear and obey him as their captain; he punishes those who fail him and those who show weakness, not even stopping for his first mate Gin, who had proven himself more loyal than any other member of his crew. He wears a gilded suit of steel armour, that is filled with hidden weapons. Krieg means "war" in German, alluding to Don Krieg's massive naval fleet and numerous personal weaponry.

Dracule Mihawk

Dracule Mihawk (ジュラキュール・ミホーク, Jurakyūru Mihōku), also known as, "Hawk-Eye" Mihawk is the first of the Shichibukai to be introduced and is Roronoa Zoro’s ultimate goal, as he is considered to be the strongest swordsman in the world. The huge scar on the front of Zoro's torso was given to him by Mihawk during their first duel. In the 4Kids dub he has a French accent and his sword is edited to not resemble a cross.

Arlong

Arlong (アーロン, Āron) is a feared and ruthless pirate captain, with a bounty of 20 million beli on his head. The Sawshark Fishman and his crew were members of Jimbei's pirate crew, before Jimbei joined the Shichibukai. He is a racist, considering humans to be inferior to Fishmen. Though there are humans he considers to be exceptions, such as the corrupt marine Captain Nezumi, and money-loving Nami. For he values money very high, so high in fact, that he prides himself with never breaking a promise, if it involves money.

Commodore Smoker

Smoker (スモーカー, Sumōkā, Chaser in edited English dub) is a Marine officer originally stationed in Loguetown as a Captain. Smoker is a cigar enthusiast, keeping plenty of cigars strapped to the left side of his jacket while smoking two lit ones in his mouth. Smoker has the powers of the Logia-type Devil Fruit: Moku Moku no Mi, giving him the power to manipulate, create, control and transform into smoke. Because Cartoon Network will not allow smoking in their broadcast version, Smoker's cigars were edited out of the anime. This gives the appearance of smoke constantly issuing from his mouth.

Sir Crocodile

Sir Crocodile (サー・クロコダイル, Sā Kurokodairu) first appears in chapter 126, during a phone conversation with Sanji. He is the leader of Baroque Works, under the codename "Mr. 0". After a failed Coup d'état he is stripped of his status as Shichibukai and eventually sent to the Government prison of Impel Down. Crocodile ate the Logia type Devil Fruit Suna Suna no Mi which allows him to create, manipulate, absorb, and transform into sand. He has a tough golden alloy hook in place of a left hand. According to series creator Eiichiro Oda, Crocodile's bounty at the time of his fights with Luffy, would have been more than twice the value of his former bounty of 81 million belli, if reflective of the threat he posed.

Wapol

King Wapol is the former ruler of the Drum Empire, later renamed Sakura Kingdom. He ate the Baku Baku no Mi (バクバクの実, Munch Munch Fruit), which allows him to eat virtually anything and take on its properties. He brags a lot about being the king of Drum Island. His closest underlings are Chess, who is a skilled archer and Kuromarimo, who's fighting style revolves around throwing parts of his afro hair-cut.

Bellamy

Bellamy "The Hyena" (ベラミー, Beramī), named after Samuel Bellamy, is the captain of the Bellamy Pirates, who has a 55 million beli bounty on his head. Bellamy's fighting prowess mainly comes from his Devil fruit power, the Bane Bane no Mi (Bane, much like the english term Boing, is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a spring bouncing), which allows him to turn body parts (or at least his legs) into springs. Using this ability, Bellamy is able to bounce off of surfaces in order to gain velocity for his attacks. His first mate, with a bounty of 38 million belli on his head, "Big Knife" Sarquiss (サーキース, Sākīsu) believes, just like his captain, that a New Age is coming and laughs at anyone who mentions their dreams.

Blackbeard

File:Blackbeard2.JPG
Marshall D. Teach

Marshall D. Teech (マーシャル・D・ティーチ, Māsharu D. Tīchi), better known as Blackbeard (黒ひげ, Kurohige) is modeled and named after the infamous pirate Edward Teach and is a former member of the Whitebeard Pirates. The Yami Yami no Mi grants Teach the ability to create and control gravity fields, represented as a flowing "darkness". He is pursued by Portgas D. Ace for killing a crewmate of his, from whom he stole the Devil Fruit he ate. After beating Ace, he turnes him in to the World Government and is appointed the replacement for Sir Crocodile as a Shichibukai. Blackbeard is voiced by Akio Ohtsuka in all Japanese media, William Minkin in the 4Kids English dub, and Cole Brown in the Funimation English dub.

Blackbeard's crew is made up of Jesus Burgess (ジーザス・バージェス, Jīzasu Bājesu, G. Zass Burgess in the English anime), a very strong man who wears a wrestling mask, Van Auger (ヴァン・オーガー, Van Ōgā, Van Ogre in the English anime), a sharpshooter nicknamed "The Supersonic", Doc Q (ドクQ, Doku Kyū), a sickly doctor nicknamed the "God of Death" who rides on a sickly horse named Stronger, and Lafitte (ラフィット, Rafittoā, Raffit in the English anime), a pale man who constantly tap dances.

Enel

File:RaijinAndEnel.png
Raijin (left) and Enel (right)

Enel (エネル), also often romanized as "Eneru", is a Logia-type Devil Fruit user, who gets his power from the Goro Goro no Mi, which allows him to manipulate, absorb, generate and transform into electricity. Using this power, combined with his strong Mantra, the ability to predict a beings movement and to sense any beings position within a certain range, he conquered Upper Yard and Sky Island, where he lets himself be worshiped like a god. As such, he introduces himself with: "Ware ga kaminari", which can be translated to both, "I am lightning" or "I am god". His earlobes are overly long, reminiscent of some depictions of Buddha, reaching down to his free chest, which in turn, along with his wide pants and drums on his back, cause the character to be remarkably resembling of Raijin, a god of thunder and lightning in Japanese mythology.

Foxy

"Foxy the Silver Fox" (銀ギツネのフォクシー Gin-gitsune no Fokushī) is the captain of his pirate crew with a 24 million beli bounty. He is a cheater and trickster. Though he acts supremely confident most of the time, he is extremely sensitive to insults or criticism, which is used as a running gag. When insulted, he'll fall to his knees, while his closest crewmates, Porche and Hamburg, if present, will cheer him up or laugh about him, respectively. Foxy ate the Devil Fruit Noro Noro no Mi, which allows him to fire microscopic particles that can slow down his enemies or other objects.

Admiral Aokiji

Admiral Aokiji

Aokiji, the "Blue Pheasant" (青キジ), was known as Kuzan prior to his promotion. One of the Vice-Admirals present at the destruction of Ohara, he is responsible for letting Nico Robin go free at that time. Aokiji is known for being lazy, as he spends a lot of his time sleeping or lying down. He gained Logia Devil Fruit powers after eating the Hie Hie no Mi (ヒエヒエの実 Ice Ice Fruit), it allows him to manipulate, generate, absorb and transform into ice and freeze his opponents.

Rob Lucci

Rob Lucci (ロブ・ルッチ, Robu Rucchi) first appears as a shipwright in the Galley-La Company. There he uses his pigeon, Hattori (ハットリ, Hattori) to speak for him, using his ventriloquist abilities, giving the impression of not being able to talk normaly.

It is soon revealed, that he is the leader of CP9, who infiltrated the Galley-La company, and is perfectly capable of speaking for himself. Lucci ate the Neko Neko no Mi, Model: Leopard (ネコネコの実 モデル豹(レオパルド), Cat Cat Fruit, Model: Leopard), which allows him to turn into a huge leopard-human hybrid and a full leopard.

Gecko Moria

Gecko Moria (ゲッコー・モリア, Gekkō Moria) is the captain of the island sized ship, Thriller Bark, and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He has the powers of the Shadow Shadow Fruit, which grants him control over his shadow, allowing it to act completely independent from his body, and manipulate and remove the shadows of others. After having his entire crew annihilated in the New World, he decides to create a crew that will do all the work for him. Using the talents of Doktor Hogback (ドクトル・ホグバック, Dokutoru Hogubakku), a doctor obsessed with the study of bringing people back to life, he is able to implant shadows of other pirates into corpses salvaged by Hogback. This allows for nearly invincible warriors that completely obey Moria. After being defeated by the Straw Hats, he is forced to return all of the shadows and flee Thriller Bark, though the World Government still accepts him as one of the warlords. Moria is voiced by Katsuhisa Hōki in Japanese media.

One thousand zombies inhabit Thriller Bark, including the special zombie, Oz (オーズ, Ōzu), who is an extremely large giant who conquered various countries and islands five hundred years before the series. Moria also has Perona (ぺローナ) and Absalom of the Graveyard (墓場のアブサロム, Hakaba no Abusaromu) under his command. Perona is a woman with the power of the Hollow Hollow Fruit, allowing her to create various ghosts that can either explode upon command or cause severe depression in an opponent. Absalom is a man modified by Hogback with various animal parts. He has the power of the Invisible Invisible Fruit, allowing him to turn himself and anything he touches invisible.

Admiral Kizaru

This article describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style. Please help rewrite it to explain the fiction more clearly and provide non-fictional perspective. (Learn how and when to remove this message)

Kizaru, the "Yellow Monkey" (黄猿), was known as Borsalino prior to his promotion. The third of the three Admirals, he recently volunteered to take care of the pirates that had harmed the Celestial Dragons at the Yarukiman Mangrove and currently has landed at the Sabaody Archipelago.

He gained the Devil Fruit powers of a Logia after eating the Pika Pika no Mi (ピカピカの実 Sparkle Sparkle Fruit) which grants him various light related abilities. He is able to generate light from any part of his body at will and make his body move at the speed of light. Kizaru was able to stand on a firing cannonball from a Marine warship to land on 27th grove harbour of the Archipelago, it is unclear whether this is a result of skill or something his devil fruit makes possible. He can transform any part of his body into light making him nearly invincible against normal attacks. As shown in chapter 510, his body effortlessly changed into light and reformed himself after getting dismembered and then blown up by Scratchmen Apoo. The light he emits from his body is in the form of powerful laser beams that appear to explode on contact with any surface they do immediately burn through. He believes speed is 'weight'. In Chapter 512 it is revealed that he can shape light into the form of a sword and fight with it. This may be a reference to lightsabers on the author's part.

Bartholomew Kuma

This article describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style. Please help rewrite it to explain the fiction more clearly and provide non-fictional perspective. (Learn how and when to remove this message)

Bartholomew Kuma (バーソロミュー・くま, Bāsoromyū Kuma) "Kuma" means "bear" in Japanese. Like Doflamingo, his first appearance is at the government summit of Mariejois following Sir Crocodile's defeat in Arabasta, where his former boutny is shown to have been 296 million beli. He is next seen at Thriller Bark, where he offers Gecko Moria his aid in defeating the Straw Hat Crew. According to Gecko Moria, Kuma is the only Shichibukai truly obedient to the World Government.

Kuma possesses the power of the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi (Paw Paw Fruit), one of many fictional Devil Fruits in One Piece. This fruit gives him the ability to repel or reflect anything he touches with his hands. He is even able to repel pain and fatigue from a person making him refresh and relaxed. This is shown in chapter 485 manga series where he repels pain and fatigue from unconscious Luffy. He is also a "Pacifista", an experimental cyborg created by the Marine scientist Doctor Vegapunk. Perona describes Kuma as "a tyrant", and claims he committed every atrocity a pirate could commit.

Kuma is seen again at Marine Headquarters, enduring a scolding from Fleet Admiral Sengoku. He informs Sengoku that the Straw Hat's Log Pose will bring them very close to the Marine Headquarters at Mariejois. During the fight between the Straw Hat crew and the Marines on Sabaody Archipelago, Kuma makes another appearance confronting the escaping Eustass "Captain" Kidd and his crew.

However, it seems that copies of Kuma are appearing around the city as he is shown to be fighting the Straw Hat crew and Urouge at the same time in two different places. These copies of Kuma, also known as "Pacifista", are able to release a powerful beam blast from its mouth and hands to attack his opponents. X Drake explained that these Pacifistas appearing all over the Sabaody Archipelago have Kuma's body and adapted their laser beam powers from Admiral Kizaru. The Pacifistas aside from Kuma himself seen are PX-4, which was defeated by the Straw Hats; PX-1, which fought with Urouge and Drake before following Kizaru to fight the Straw Hats; and another unnamed Pacifista, which is currently fighting Eustass Kidd and Trafalgar Law.

In chapter 512, he seems to have teleported Zoro to an unknown destination, probably a place "where you (Zoro) would go for a trip". This action/ability must have something to do with the cognition of the target, as Kuma tells Zoro to think of a place for trip right before the action/ability was used.

Other characters

Gold Roger

This article describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style. Please help rewrite it to explain the fiction more clearly and provide non-fictional perspective. (Learn how and when to remove this message)

Gold Roger (real name later revealed to be Gol D. Roger) was the Pirate King, the strongest pirate alive, and owner of the legendary treasure known as One Piece. Born in Loguetown (Roguetown in the English manga and anime), Roger was famed as the man who did what no one thought possible — he conquered the Grand Line. Even before setting out, he was the only man who truly did not fear the dangers of the Grand Line and was even excited about venturing out there. Even with warnings about ships never returning from that ocean, he did not care; in fact, he even declared that was the reason for him going. Nico Robin discovered Gold Roger was able to read and decipher Poneglyphs just like her, though this was later revealed by Silvers Rayleigh to be false, saying that Roger could listen to "the voice of all things." Gold Roger had even discovered Sky island during his journey, and he significantly stated there that he had left a passage, suspected to lead to the revealing of the void century, the Rio Poneglyph.

It has been revealed by his former second in command Silvers Rayleigh that he was not captured by the World Government, but instead turned himself in. After discovering he had contracted an incurable disease he made one final voyage through the Grand Line, with Crocus in tow to help keep him alive, and finally achieved what was said to be impossible: He completed and conquered the Grand Line. After this success, Gold Roger disbanded his crew and turned himself into the World Government. Rayleigh told that with his last words he changed his dimming flame of life to a raging fire spread across the world, known as the Age of Piracy.

Only four characters of his crew have been properly introduced so far: Buggy the Clown, Red Haired Shanks, lighthouse-keeper Dr. Crocus, and "Dark King" Silvers Rayleigh. His fighting style has yet to be revealed. As the man who conquered the Grand Line and became the Pirate King however, it is obvious that he was an extremely formidable fighter.

He was said to be completely fearless, and those who witnessed his execution even claim that he grinned just before his death. Many people who've met Monkey D. Luffy and knew Roger have commented that the two are very similar.

As the original and current Japanese prologue states: “ "Wealth, fame, power. The man who had acquired everything in this world, the pirate king, Gold Roger!" ”

"Red Haired" Shanks

Red-Haired Shanks (赤髪のシャンクス, Akagami no Shankusu) is the captain of the Red Haired Pirates and one of the "Four Emperors" of the second half of the Grand Line. He is a former member of Gold Roger's Crew in which he had a rivalry with Buggy the Clown. He and his crew befriend Luffy before the series, and Shanks sacrifices his left arm to save Luffy from a Sea King. He sees great potential and Luffy, believing him to have the same adventurous personality as Gold Roger. He gives Luffy his signature straw hat under the condition the Luffy will return it as a pirate. Shanks is able to emit a strong spiritual energy, which he used to knock out the junior members of Whitebeard's crew. Eiichiro Oda believes Shanks is the one character that resembles himself the most out of all the One Piece characters, because of his fun-loving partying nature. Shanks is voiced by Shūichi Ikeda in Japanese media, Tom Souhrada in the 4Kids English dub, and Brandon Potter in the Funimation English dub.

Shanks' first mate is Ben Beckman (ベン・ベックマン, Ben Bekkuman), who always carries a rifle and a cigarette. Other members include Lucky Roux (ラッキー・ルウ, Rakkī Ruu), a fat man who is always eating, and Yasopp (ヤソップ, Yasoppu), a gifted sharp-shooter and father of Usopp. The crew is constantly celebrating with food and alcohol whether they are in a town or on a deserted island.

Hatchan

This article describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style. Please help rewrite it to explain the fiction more clearly and provide non-fictional perspective. (Learn how and when to remove this message)

Hatchan (はっちゃん, Hacchan), introduced as a member of Arlongs crew, called "Hachi" by most characters and called Hachiin by Camie, is an octopus Fishman. Hatchan is not very bright but a skilled swordsman, using rokutōryū ("six sword style"). He fights with Zoro during the fight between the Strawhat Crew and the Arlong Pirates. Despite having suffered a fever and severe blood loss from his unhealed wounds obtained in a duel against Mihawk, Zoro defeats Hatchan. Outside of battle, Hatchan is extremely helpful and friendly. He addressed Zoro politely when they first met, and even gave him a ride of a bay on his back. Later in the manga, in a side story told on title pages of the ongoing story, Hatchan goes on many adventures, meeting a mermaid called Camie, that ends with him opening a floating takoyaki restaurant.

Later, Hatchan is abducted by the Rosy Life Riders in an attempt to sell him into slavery. He is rescued by the Straw Hats after they met Camie. However, after becoming aware who Camie asked them to rescue, the crew objected. Only Nami deemed Hatchan to be harmless (probably due to recognizing his simple and helpful nature during her time with the Arlong pirates) and the Straw Hats agreed to help. He assists them in their battle with the Flying Fish riders and then rewards the pirates with his Takoyaki. He is currently helping the Straw Hats to reach the New World via Fishman Island, which is the only route available to them as the only other route involves traveling over the Red Line, via the Holy Land of Mariejoa, the headquarters of the World Government. This would also entail abandoning the Thousand Sunny.

Hatchan knows the former second in command of the Jolly Roger Pirates and "coating mechanic" Silvers Rayleigh on the Sabaody Archipelago and tells the Straw Hats that if they use anyone else, they won't make it to Fishman Island, implying Rayleigh is very good at this profession. He explains that, in order to reach the island, the must coat their entire ship with the soapy resin from the mangroves of the archipelago so that it can withstand the pressure of diving to Fishman Island. He is currently guiding them through the Sabaody Archipelago, and because of his newfound friendship with the Straw Hats, his old acquaintance Shakky is willing to coat the Sunny for free.

In Hatchan's Sea-Floor Stroll, it's revealed that Hatchan, along with Chu and Kuroobi, planned to open a takoyaki store when they were younger. His nickname Hachi also means eight in Japanese, a reference to him being an octopus Fishman.

Hatchan's name is quite strange. In the Japanese language, chan is a diminutive suffix, added to the end of someone's name, giving it the meaning of "cute" or "little". However, Hatchan insists that his name is Hatchan and that Hachi is just a nickname. When questioned on this, Oda replied that the chan is the same as the last name of "Chan" common in Chinese, rather than the suffix -chan.

Nefertari Vivi

Nefertari Vivi (ネフェルタリ・ビビ, Neferutari Bibi) first appears as an antagonist as the main characters reach the Grand Line, as a member of Baroque Works. It is revealed that Vivi is actually the princess of Arabasta, but infiltrated Baroque Works to find out the identity of the organizations leader. Her weapons are a pair of peacock slashers.

Portgas D. Ace

Portgas D. Ace (ポートガス・D・エース - Pōtogasu D. Ēsu, (Portgaz D. Trace in Edited English Anime, Portgaz D. Ace in English Manga) is the 2nd Division Commander of Whitebeard Pirates and Luffy's older brother. He first appears in the Drum Kingdom, searching for Blackbeard and Luffy. He has the powers of the Devil Fruit: Mera Mera Fruit (メラメラの実, Mera Mera no Mi, Flare Flare Fruit, English Anime, Flame Flame Fruit, English Manga) which allow him to manipulate, control, absorb, generate, create, and transform into fire. It is due to this that he is given the title "Fire Fist Ace" (Hiken no Ēsu, Trace Heat Fist in dub). The Biblicard he gave to Luffy in the Arabasta arc was burning when it was last seen, an effect Lola explains to mean the owner's life is fading away. In Chapter 501, it is confirmed that the government has set a date for Ace's public execution.

Like other members of his family, Ace is narcoleptic and falls asleep without warning, making passers-by wonder whether he has dropped dead. Ace's most recognizable features are his tattoos. His back bears the Whitebeard symbol–a skull with a white mustache superimposed over a manji. To eliminate confusion between the Buddhist manji and the Nazi swastika, the manji was changed to white crossbones in the animated version and in later chapters of the manga. Ace has another tattoo on his upper left arm that reads "ASCE" with the "S" crossed out. In 4kids dub, the "ASCE" was edited out.

Whitebeard

Edward Newgate (エドワード・二ューゲート, Edowādo Nyūgēto, Ward Newgate in One Piece: Grand Adventure), better known as Whitebeard (白ひげ, Shirohige) is regarded as the strongest pirate in the One Piece world. He is the pirate closest to obtaining the legendary treasure, One Piece. Whitebeard clashed with Gold Roger, and was considered his equal in combat. Newgate regards anyone in his crew as his 'son' and he sees himself as something of a father figure, his crew even refer to him as their 'father'. Whitebeard has been shown to use a type of spear called a "bisento" in combat. Whitebeard is an abnormally large human, dwarfing most non-giant One-Piece characters. His name comes from the name of the real Blackbeard, "Edward Teach". Whitebeard strongly believes that every sailor upon the seas must have a code of morals to guide themselves by. His Whitebeard Pirates are divided into 16 divisions of one hundred men, each led by a high ranking Whitebeard subordinate, one of which is Luffy's elder brother Portgas D. Ace.

Donquixote Doflamingo

Donquixote Doflamingo (ドンキホーテ・ドフラミンゴ, Donkihōte Dofuramingo) first appears in One Piece Chapter 234, during a meeting between the Shichibukai and high-ranking World Government officials, where his former bounty is shown to have been 340 million beli. He displays an ability to control others using movements similar to a puppeteer. Doflamingo believes that the "era of dreams", as he is calling the Great Age of Piracy is going to come to an end and is working towards starting a new era, which he said is "soon upon us". He has also been revealed as a participant in the slave trade, owning a large auction house on the Sabaody Archipelago. At that time he said to Disco that the "new era" is closing in every moment with the battle between the Royal Shichibukai and the Whitebeard pirates approaching.

Sengoku

Sengoku (センゴク, Sengoku), nicknamed "the Buddha" (仏, Hotoke), is the supreme commander of all Naval forces in the One Piece world, his status apparent by the life-size seagull attached to his hat. He oversees the workings of the Navy from the Sanctuary of Mariejois, and is subordinate only to the leaders of the World Government, the Gorōsei (五老星). Note that "Sengoku" can be written in kanji as 戦国, meaning "warring states," which is a period of Japanese history.

Akainu

Akainu, the "Red Dog" (赤犬), known as Vice Admiral Sakazuki before his promotion, was present at the Ohara incident. He ordered the destruction of a ship of civilians, claiming it needed to be destroyed in case any scholars snuck on board. He believes in "absolute justice", and eliminating all "evil", which is contrary to Aokiji's beliefs.

Monkey D. Garp

File:Garp.jpg
Vice Admiral Garp (foreground)

Monkey D. Garp (モンキー・D・ガープ, Monkī D. Gāpu) , nicknamed "Garp the Fist" (Genkotsu no Gāpu), is the commanding officer of the Navy's 153rd Branch, as well as the father of revolutionary Monkey D. Dragon and grandfather of series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. He is famous for his pursuit of Pirate King, Gold Roger, whom he cornered and fought many times. He is the man in charge of both Koby and Helmeppo, whom he took under his wing in Koby's mini-arc, where Garp made his first appearance. He has superhuman strength, enough to lift and throw cannonballs like baseball pitches, though he admits that he isn't as strong as he was in his youth.

Jaguar D. Saul

Jaguar D. Saul (ハグワール・D・サウロ Haguwāru D. Sauro) is a former Naval officer introduced during the flashback to Robin's past. Saul is a giant, but unlike previously introduced giants in the One Piece manga, Saul did not originate from the viking-inspired warrior's paradise, Elbaf.

Morgan

"Axe-Hand" Morgan is called "Axe-Hand" as he literally has an axe for a right arm. Axe-Hand Morgan is one of the first major enemies Monkey D. Luffy has to face. He is Helmeppo's father.

Helmeppo was drawn before his father and early drawings of Morgan greatly resembled Helmeppo's own appearance. One example had him almost identical to Helmeppo, with just a crazier hairstyle. He was given his final design after the editor said he looked lame. Morgan's original name was going to be 'Captain Chop'. Oda explained that he didn't have the nerve to actually use this name. (His name also apparently was similar to a wrestling move by a famous Japanese wrestler called Giant Baba). Morgan's mouthpiece has the word "Möwe" written on it. Möwe means "sea gull" in German.

Tashigi

Tashigi (たしぎ, Tashigi) is a Naval officer serving under Commodore Smoker. She is first introduced, at the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, when the Straw Hat Pirates dock in Loguetown. While adept at sword fighting, she is unusually clumsy, almost stabbing herself accidentally with her own sword on one occasion. She is also very well-versed in the famous katana of One Piece, knowing their names and origins.

Tashigi's stated goal is to remove all Meitō, named swords with prestigious histories, from the hands of those who would use them for their own ends. After meeting Roronoa Zoro she set out to sea with Smoker, chasing after him and the rest of the Straw Hat crew. She bears a striking resemblance to Kuina, something which Zoro is uncomfortable with.

Koby

File:Koby.jpg
Master Chief Petty Officer Koby

Koby (コビー, Kobī) is the first introduced as an involuntary member of a pirate crew, who with Luffy's help soon joins the Navy, alongside Morgan's disgraced son Helmeppo. During Morgan's escape, the bravery shown by the two earns them the respect of their superiors, and the attention of Vice-Admiral Garp. Koby's dream is to become an officer so he can catch criminals. In addition, he also wants to become strong and earn the rank of Admiral, and fight one-on-one with the person he believes will become Pirate King — Monkey D. Luffy.

Helmeppo

Helmeppo (ヘルメッポ, Herumeppo) is Axe-Hand Morgan's bratty son. After Morgan is defeated, he does petty work for the Naval Base in Shell Town along with Koby. This changes when they meet Vice-Admiral Garp, who takes them to his own base on the Grand Line to watch over and help guide their progress. His dream is to become an officer so he can regain the life of luxury he had before he was defeated by Luffy. He also wants to surpass his father, and capture him, as well as be able to fight one-on-one with Zoro.

Jango

Jango (ジャンゴ三) Jango, romanized in English adaptations as Django is the first mate and hypnotist of Captain Kuro. He uses disks that double as chakrams to hypnotize people to his advantage in battle. He has a former bounty of 9 million beli. Jango usually ends up hypnotizing himself as well as his targets.

Jango wears strange clothes, including a long coat covered in the disks he uses to fight and hypnotize as a pirate, and red-lensed heart-shaped glasses henceforth the shape of his eyes. His face and actions is also strangly reminiscent of real life song artist Michael Jackson. Jango possesses the power of hypnosis which he uses with varying degrees of success. He is defeated by Usopp while attempting to kill Kaya, and later is shown in a series of cover stories. He joins the Marines and serves under Captain Hina at the end of the mini series.

Jango gained his powers after eating a mushroom that had grown on his chin while he was sleeping. He only ate the cap and the trunk of the mushroom still resides on his chin.

Spandam

Spandam (スパンダム, Supandamu) is first introduced as leader of CP5. As such he attempts to retrieve the blueprints of the weapon Pluton from the shipwright Tom. When Tom refuses, Spandam frames him by using Franky's battleships on a judiciary ship, making it seem like Tom and his apprentices Franky and Iceburg are the culprits. In the end though, Spandam is outsmarted, as Tom safely hides the plans away, and only gets a very scarred face for his trouble. Later, as the leader of CP9, he orderes the capture of Franky and Nico Robin.

He often shows extreme cowardice, though he doesn't hesitate to use his rank to boss around his subordinates. He owns a sword named "Funk Freed" (ファンクフリード Fankufurīdo), which "ate" the Devil Fruit, Zou Zou no Mi, giving it the ability to transform into an elephant. He is also very clumsy and idiotic, and has an obsession to get higher ranks and prestige.

Rob Lucci

Main article: Rob Lucci

Kaku

Kaku (カク, Kaku) is first seen as the especially friendly shipwright among the five foremen of Galley-La Company's Dock One. Kaku has the peculiar habit of speaking like an old man would. Japanese has many different speech patterns that people use, depending on age, gender, location, and other such things. Kaku has a very long nose, similar to Usopp, though it is angular as opposed to round. He is able to move incredibly fast and leap from amazing heights and distances without a scratch. As a Galley-La employee, he fights using a variety of pavers; as a CP9 agent, he is a skilled swordsman. After being revealed as one of the Water 7 CP9 agents, Kaku's personality becomes cold and rather emotionless.

In Enies Lobby, Spandam gives to him and Kalifa two Devil Fruits. Kaku eats the Ushi Ushi no Mi Model: Giraffe, which grants him the ability to transform into a giraffe or a giraffe-man hybrid. Although he feels proud for his giraffe forms, he is repeatedly mocked by it which angers him to no end.

Jyabura

Jyabura (ジャブラ, Jabura) ate the Devil Fruit Inu Inu no Mi Model: Wolf, which gives him the power to change into a full wolf and a human-wolf hybrid that resembles a werewolf. He has a tattoo on the front of his shoulder that is the kanji for "wolf" (狼, okami). However, his shirt entirely covers his tattoo when he is in human form.

He believes he has a strong rivalry with Rob Lucci, who seems mostly disinterested in any such notion. Jyabura is extremely competitive and gets outraged when someone surpasses him, for instance, he didn't like when learned that Kaku became stronger than him. He is also very superstitious, initially believing that if someone who has eaten a Devil Fruit gets too close to another Devil Fruit, their body will explode as the two devils confront each other, though Blueno explains that this is not the case. While fighting, he tends to deceive his opponents to get them off guard.

Blueno

Blueno (ブルーノ, Burūno) first appears in Water 7, wearing a mask, outside the book store where Chopper loses sight of Robin. He is a very large man with broad shoulders and horn-like protrusions of hair. He is the only agent, besides Rob Lucci, who remains to look calm and controlled during battles while the others show to have praising when they are attacking their opponents. Blueno ate the Doa Doa no Mi which allows him to create doors on any surface. He has even created "air doors", doors in the air itself, which lead to what seems to be another dimension.

Kumadori

Kumadori (クマドリ, Kumadori) is one of the last members of CP9 revealed, and is recognizable by his large frame, huge mane of pinkish hair, and a right eye that never seems to be open. He also seems to have strong feelings for his deceased mother, beginning to sob, even while fighting, at the very thought of her. He claims her "divine protection" is the reason for his failed suicide-attempts.

Kumadori is a very loud person, and has the strange habit of yelling something resembling "YOYOI!!" rather often. Most of his mannerisms and his make-up seem to have been inspired in kabuki actors, being even his name is taken from a type of make-up to kabuki. His fighting abilities include Life Return, which gives him control over every cell in his body, even his hair.

Fukurou

Fukurou (フクロウ, Fukurou) is a round, oddly-shaped man with a zipper across his mouth, which has to be open, in order for him to speak. Despite having the ability to litteraly "zip it", his most predominant personality quirk is having a "Big Mouth", both figuratively and literally; he also has the strange habit of saying "chapapa" after almost every sentence or as an exclamation.

Fukurou nicknames himself "Fukurou the Silent", since with his Soru ability he can move very fast and approach a target unheard and unseen before killing them. Fukurou's fighting style revolves mostly around a refined punch, the "Jugon", that he claims to be more damaging than the Shigan.

Kalifa

Kalifa (カリファ, Karifa) first appears in Water 7 as Iceburg's loyal secretary. Normally she is very calm and composed; however, if somebody insults Iceburg, she is very quick to anger. During her time as his secretary, she is very rarely seen away from Iceburg's side. She seems to care for Iceburg very much, and is very upset when anything happens to him.

Upon her arrival at Enies Lobby, Kalifa eats the Awa Awa no Mi, which allows her to create cleansing bubbles that are capable of "cleaning off" a person's energy and turning them in slippery mannequins. Kalifa defeats Sanji, who refused to strike her since she is a woman, but is outsmarted by Nami.
