Came across it on my travels, I also have proposed a {{Korea-writer-stub}} as amazingly it didn't exist yet, (I mean how many notable writers could we write about on wikipedia through the entirety of history the mind boggles). Its a shame we can't clone you hundreds of times given the content missing or that needs developing for korea!. Worse even is the coverage of Vietnam and Burma we have on here. I was watching By Any Means (which I am writing week by week on here) last night and he went though Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand which as you know is a part of the world that inspires me and it was just amazing. He rode in a rocket boat down the Mekong for some part which was probably one of the coolest modes of transport I;ve seen. Even the articles on the largest cities in Vietnam are barely beyond stubs. If only we could cover it all in detail like America and the UK and have rleiable and abundant sources to boot. I'm currently stubbing Japanese dams in the hope that they will be translated from Japanese wiki. Hope you are well friend The Bald One 16:52, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Exactly. 95% of the articles we have related to Vietnam above a start class are Vietnam War and likely to be written from an American point of view, however neutral it strives to be. Thats why I use wikipedia to explore places and culture which I don't know about or will never get to see. Sure writing articles about films and local places and that which you are familiar with can be fun, but my overall goal and purpose on wikipedia is to branch out in the "grey areas" of the world from a "western" viewpoint. Given the extreme bias and the ignorance of many to "foreign" places, this is practically anything from Tijuana down to Tierra del Fuego, from Cairo to Walvis Bay, from Ankara eastwards to Tokyo etc. IN places the coverage seems unbelievably developed but browse through most of the categories on locations in Latin America, Africa and Asia and very few of articles on even major towns and cities are of a good standard, let alone 95% of the rest of the country which is "ignored" as of now. The strength of wikipedia really is from the people who live or are aquainted with cultures or places in "other" parts of the world and are able to develop it from their world viewpoint. Given time, I anticipate that people learning English in the developing world who increasingly have access to to computers and the web will begin to appear on increasingly on here. The unfortunate thing is that most people who visit wikipedia use us rather than nurture us, so the bulk of the work is done by a few thousand people. If we could maximise our potential, we'd see things start to change very fast and wikipedia would start growing at a rate which would seem more in keeping with its global reach The Bald One 17:34, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Chinese shoes

A complicated subject to be sure. This is what I can dig up without too much trouble:

• 履 lǚ: cloth low-top shoes
• 屐 bǐng: wood sole shoes, "clogs"
• 靴 xuē: ankle to knee high boots
• 屣 xǐ: crappy straw flip-flops
• 屨 or 屦: straw or vine shoe-like sandals

jianlian (金蓮) is a euphemism for bound-feet the shoes for those feet are call 金蓮履 I'll do something with the hats when there is time. Sjschen (talk) 18:42, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Empress Myeongseong

I don't really care about our issues on the article in question, I honestly believe that while we might each have different perspectives on the incident, that neither of us are trying to deceive anyone, we just want to emphasize different aspects of the article in different ways.

However, this new edit seems to be very different from anything I have read in the past - is it anywhere near the truth?

Featured Sounds

I have occasionally voted oppose, but I try not to vote too often (where I don't nominate) unless there's a point of order to bring up, e.g. where I feel policy is being misapplied, or in order to speed on things that seem fairly obviously to meet criteria, but which haven't made the quorum after 14 days. As a check, User:MZMcBride - wh I suppose would count as the deputy FSC director if we had proper titles - has agreed to make all judgements on whether things that I have been involved with get promoted or not.

More to the point - I think it's useful to keep standards a bit lower for the moment in order that we can achieve the critical mass that allows us to attract people who are able to raise standards higher. I've looked into the history of other featured content procedures, and it seems that standards will self-correct in time, but all successful Featured content projects had much lower standards at the start than they do now, and I suspect that holding featured sounds to similar levels before we get the talented people we need will only serve to keep featured sounds as a minority featured content process. "found out the redirect"? I do not get what you mean by that. Are you saying that it is strange that I knew how to edit like this? I only get the article back to the older version.

Are you saying that I am the same person as that Carl Daniels guy? If so, it is very rude of you. I have nothing to do with him.

When I searched for 剣道, the article said that it referred to both Kendo and Kumdo and that Kumdo is a Korean sword art. I was so surprised that I checked out who did it. And I found that you called 日本 a Chinese and Korean word. I was so surprised again that I made it back to the older version. I didn't realise that 百濟 was labelled as a Japanese word because I was not interested in it. I think calling 百濟 a Japanese word and 日本 a Chinese and Korean word is nonsense. If it is OK, "America" can be a French word, Italian word, Spanish word, Corsican word, Welsh word, Manx word, Galician word, Ilocano word...etc, etc. Kanji and Hanja are both Chinese characters, of course. Then what about the alphabets? There are so many countries which use the alphabets. If 日本 can be counted as a Chinese word or a Korean word, "America" "France" "Italia" and words of that kind may be counted as words in more than 20 or 30 or 40 or maybe 100 languages. Calling 日本 a Chinese and Korean word is nonsense. Of course, calling 百濟 a Japanese word is nonsense for the same reason.

I said I needed no reply because I didn't want to be involved this argument any more. I don't care if 日本 is a Chinese word or Korean word or an English word or anything any more. If you think it is Korean, that's OK. I don't care. There is no disagreement any more. I have no intention to get the article back to the older version. I have no intention to talk to that Carl guy about it either. This argument is so trivial that I don't want myself involved in it any more.

I left my message on your talk page because you left your message on my talk page. I though it would be rude not to reply. But actually, I am no longer interested in this argument. I don't agree with you but I don't disagree with you either. I have no intention to persuade you to do anything. I don't have as much time to kill as you do. That's why I don't need any reply.
