Sorry, but ] is not licensed under a free license. You are right to look for images from federal sources, which would make them public domain under {{tl|PD-USGov}}. However, the particular image that you found in a is actually Palin's and belongs to the State of Alaska. The fact that it was used in a federal newsletter doesn't mean that Alaska gave up its copyright ownership.
If you are interested, the feds used the image under a fair use/publicity guise. Misplaced Pages actually has a stricter fair use policy than what US copyright law requires. You can read it at: ]. So, while the feds and news agencies can use that photo under fair use, Misplaced Pages has a policy of not allowing such use. (I can explain the reasons if you like). It is also possible that the feds used the image with permission, which would still not allow Misplaced Pages to use the image, since we require a free license (like {{tl|cc-by-sa}} or {{tl|GFDL}}).
I know this can be complicated, so you might want to ask someone for help before uploading more images. It might be tricky at first, but you can get the hang of it soon.--] (]) 02:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC) |

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Favrejetsmadden.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Favrejetsmadden.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Misplaced Pages. The recent edit you made to Brett Favre has been reverted, as it appears to have removed content from the page without explanation. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. Brett Favre pic
Are you talking about Image:New Madden NFL 09 Coverart.jpg? The image would only be allowed in an article about Madden 09, and not about Favre. This one, on the other hand, looks like it's legit. --Mosmof (talk) 23:03, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand your question. Fair use means that a copyrighted work is being used without the owner's permission, but it's considered allowable since it's needed to discuss or comment on the image. All the photographs of Favre used in the article are free images whose owners released them from copyright (except for the Madden '09 cover, which is used to discuss the cover). --Mosmof (talk) 23:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Jason Donald infobox
To be honest, I'm not that good with templates and boxes, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. It looks like you have the infobox figured out, though, but I did some minor fixes and refining. Good luck!. --Mosmof (talk) 22:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Your recent edit to the Houston Texans article
Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, which wasn't included with your recent edit to Houston Texans. The removal of several sections without an edit summary will be interpreted as vandalism and will almost always be reverted. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 15:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

He is recognized as running as an independent, and not part of some "Independent Party" in all states. He may be running under some party's banners in some states, but those are insignificant compared to his national status as an independent. Just because he is running as a candidate of the Independent Party in Minnesota doesn't mean he's doing it everywhere, therefore such a designation is both wrong and misleading. —kurykh 02:57, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion, such as in User talk:Kurykh, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 16:02, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your contributions to Misplaced Pages. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary for your edits. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 16:05, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on Shannon Royer, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Misplaced Pages:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --Elkman 16:08, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Shannon Royer
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shannon Royer, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ... discospinster talk 17:53, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Welcome to Misplaced Pages. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Shannon Royer. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. ... discospinster talk 14:24, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Note that http://www.pennsylvania.gov/ is a state website, not a U.S. Federal government site. It is clearly marked "Copyright © 2008 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All Rights Reserved". PD-USGov does not apply to material from that site.
Also, I'm not sure of the point of your message on my talk page-- did you upload those images to Commons or did someone on the same computer use your account? Whatever the case, you are responsible for edits made by your account, so please remember to log off if on public computers. Another point, please sign messages on talk pages. Thanks. -- Infrogmation (talk) 01:24, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Image:Governor rendell edward speech.jpg
The image you uploaded Image:Governor rendell edward speech.jpg is improperly tagged as {{PD-USGov}}. The owner is the Missouri Department of Transportation, which is not the US Government. I can see this is not the first time you have improperly uploaded photos, and perhaps you should familiarize yourself with Misplaced Pages:Images. Feel free to contact me with any questions about image use. Thanks.--HoboJones (talk) 05:21, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Image:Dr Alan Keyes.jpg
I am sorry, but the licensing information that you gave for Image:Dr Alan Keyes.jpg is not {{CC-BY-SA}}.
According to the website, "All content at KeyesArchives.com, unless otherwise noted, is available for private use, and for good-faith sharing with others — by way of links, e-mail, and printed copies. Publishers and websites may obtain permission to re-publish content from the site, provided they contact us, and provided they are also willing to give appropriate attribution." This is not compatible with CC-BY-SA. The last sentence says websites (which is wikipedia) may obtain permission by contacting them. Read this: Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission to find out how you can do that. Let me know if you have any other questions.--HoboJones (talk) 15:40, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
