==Help on Mae West Article==
Please see my recent note in Discussion on the Mae West page re references. An editor named Wildhartlivie watches this article like a hawk along with some friends like User:Pinkadelica. They insist on having the unsightly reference template at the top of the article no matter how many references that are put in. It seems to me that there is some sort of personal policing of this article going on and that certain editors are hell-bent on controlling the content 100%. Reading correspondence between Wildhartlivie and Pinkadelica on their talk pages supports that suspicion (not very nice reading either, by the way). Its this allowed? I thought I made a reasonable point in Discussion just now, but it only took 4 minutes for Wilhardlivie to intercede again. We need an objective administrator's help here. Would you please help or forward this to someone who can? ] (]) 02:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
:I am now accused of "personal attacks" in my stating what anyone can safely surmise by reading the talk pages of these cooperating editors about Mae West (Pinkadelica's has just now been archived) which have been read by me and several of my office colleagues with amazement. How do you feel as one of Misplaced Pages's most experienced administrators, about the current look of the ] article as adjusted since admin Kingturtle wrote on the Discussion page there? The editor Wilhardlivie has just added no less that 78 "citation needed" notes throughout the text, if my quick count is correct. What does this tell a newcomer about English Misplaced Pages (compare e. g. ]) looking for information about one of America's best known entertainers? When Wildhartlivie just now changed my "Through her world famous sense of humor, Mae West has become one of the most legendary of all American entertainment personalities" to remove the sense of humor, she removed the whole point of that author's book (the one the reference goes to). And why is "References" OK as a heading for every other article I've seen, but W won't have it here, insisting on "Notes" alone? If I am wrong about some negative personal editing and exaggerated policing of this article, I sincerely apologize. We cannot help continung to react naturally to what the evidence strongly suggests. Don't 78 "citation needed" tags constitute some form of graffiti? I would certainly never dare do such a thing, even if I got such a wild idea. ] (]) 05:26, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Infrogmation: I was hoping that you could help me out....could you be so kind to provide me with the title of the 1898 book where you scanned the 10Kmiles.jpg image of the "eagle cartoon" that references the Spanish American war. I am working on a textbook, and have been trying to find this, and so far have been unsuccessful. I would appreciate if you could provide me with that information. many thanks. Fourth of July, or bust, Thanks!

The Fourth of July, or bust, Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar for your solid, witty, creative, supportive, learned, timely, cheerful, eloquent, and/or otherwise generally great contributions on U. S. National Historic Landmarks' articles. Yippee o yay, we pretty much met our goal of a well-started article for each of 2,442 NHLs by today!

Thanks, and have a great Fourth of July! -- Doncram, 4 July 2008

Thank you for your contributions of new photos for List of NHLs in LA during the June 11-July 4 period of this cleanup drive! I am so glad you have just joined wp:NRHP, too. Hopefully you will post new photo additions and new articles within the boxes on the wp:NRHP main page, and enjoy more interaction with other NRHPers. I am grateful also to you for your responsive, solid, timely, yeomanic (is that a word?) and artistic contributions of pics for List of NHLs in LA, and other development of articles, especially when i was spending virtual time there in January. Your contributions were inspiring to me, encouraging me towards completing out NHL lists for every state, now largely accomplished. Cheers, doncram (talk) 18:10, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

St. Augustine Church (New Orleans)

Hi, thanks for the recognition for LA work! and also the note on the church in New Orleans. Will move material from my article to that one. My search didn't turn that up. There are two disambiguation pages also on St. Augustine/St. Augustine's Churches - shouldn't they be combined? I'm not sure how to do that.--Parkwells (talk) 16:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for taking care of the St. Augustine Church New Orleans pages. I'll take a look at the general disambig pages. -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

New Orleans pics

Hello there. I am so delighted to see that you are taking requests for New Orleans photos. I understand that you may not have the time to do this, but hey, it can’t hurt to ask. I have written an article about a performer, Andy Offutt Irwin whose quote, “Don’t be afraid to be amazing” is the message of a mural by artist Susan Guevara at the Children’s Resource Center branch library. Well, I talk about it in the article, but I would like to include a picture of the mural and/or any thing that shows his quote but I’m several hundred miles away. The branch is in uptown New Orleans; link to address and hours. I found a photo of the work here , (if you look closely, you see the quote in the mural with the cat playing a trumpet) but it is not free use, of course. Thanks,

A Softer Answer (talk) 19:58, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi. I know where that library is (I already have a couple of photos of the exterior in the NOPL gallery on Commons), and could probably stop by there sometime before the end of next week if you ask. However any photo I'd take showing a recent artwork of a living artist like this would be a "derivative work", as the artist still holds copyright to the work, not me as a photographer. If the work of art is being discussed in an article, I believe you can make a "fair use rationale" to use an image to illustrate that article (see Misplaced Pages:Non-free content for details). If you ask, I can take a photo of the mural, but understand unfortunately it can't be free licensed without the consent of the artist, who remains the copyright holder. Thanks, -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:43, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Dang. Forgot about that. However, the artwork is discussed in the article so it should be under "fair use rationale". More specifically, the fact that Andy's quote is used in the artwork (and a press release from the library states that it is his quote), makes "fair use" even more reasonable. You could capture just the portion of the mural that includes the quote; it would seem that might fall even more under "fair use" for this particular article. Also, you could look to see if Andy is credited as being the author of the quote and take a picture of that credit if it is present. So I am specifically asking you to take a picture of just the phrase "Don't be afraid to be amazing" in the mural and to take a picture of any reference to Andy Offutt Irwin as the original author of the quote if it is available. I would really appreciate it. A Softer Answer (talk) 01:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I should be able to get a couple pix, I hope this week. Have a fair use rationale in mind for when I upload. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:13, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm on line now and ready with a fair use rational. A Softer Answer (talk) 14:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Off line--motherhood is calling. I'll let you know when I'm back on. A Softer Answer (talk) 14:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much, it looks great. I have added a Fair Use to the image and added the image to the article. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. I really, really, really appreciate you making the effort to get this picture for me. A Softer Answer (talk) 19:19, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks & Question

Thanks for trying to help, but it's like talking to a brick wall. BTW, you seem an appropriate person to ask as any other... As of late, I've had a lot of problems with people tagging their own images for deletion at upload (with the option "fair use image of living person/existing building"). Clearly some people don't see the red flag and continue on their merry way thinking there's no problem. Then two days later (or sooner in some cases) when the image gets deleted under I7 they complain that they never got any notification. Is there a way to make the warning a little more prominent (maybe a whole new window like when you're going to overwrite an existing image)? And what's a more appropriate place to discuss this? Melesse (talk) 01:56, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Provisional non-answer for the time being: such templates/warnings aren't something I've been involved in designing; I'll try to find out where a good place to bring this up is and get back to you. Thanks for your feedback. -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:16, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry; I said I'd get back to you but I've been distracted by other things. You might wish to bring this up at Misplaced Pages talk:Template messages or Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard. I apologize for not being of more help. Thanks for your attention; someone else might be able to do something useful with your thoughtful suggestions. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 12:56, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Image deletion at Commons

Good hello, I've encountered a problem at Commons and hope you might be able to render some advice. There is an image file, Image:DSCN6573 a 1.JPG, that was once part of a defunct porn site, I think it was city-feet.ru or .de. Someone took many (hundreds upon hundreds) of the photos from that site (and another one called streetfeet), stripped the logos off and uploaded them to Flkr and various image indexes. User:ManiacMikey, who seems to have some issues with images, uploaded it claiming to have taken the image himself and releasing it into the public domain. I tagged it for a speedy deletion as a copyvio and have been asked to provide evidence. A quick Gsearch turns up a forum where the issue is discussed (in general, no mention of Misplaced Pages or this specific pic or user) and links are provided to indexes of some of the other pics but not the image in question. What would be the best way to submit what little evidence there is. Cheers. L0b0t (talk) 04:04, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

I suggest bringing it up at Commons:Deletion requests. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks mate. cheers. L0b0t (talk) 23:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Voodoo Music Experience

Thanks for your work on the Voodoo Music Experience page. The article still needs lots of work, as you cans see. It was quite the shock to see my own creative commons licensed photo used in the article. Haha! Eclectek  20:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Let me suggest maybe you free license more of your Flickr images so they might be used by Wikimedia? Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Snug Harbor

Thank you for helping. I think the page title really should be plain Snug Harbor and all the other Snug Harbors should have location tags. Reason is, this one is something of a big deal among architecture buffs, and is gaining a collection of musuems that make it merit the name, Snug Harbor. The other problem is that I cannot find the page. I can only find the New Orleans one.Elan26 (talk) 23:43, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Elan26

I think I cleaned this up a bit... Talk:Snug_Harbor_Cultural_Center#Merge_Proposal is the merge proposal between the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Snug Harbor, Staten Island while the NHL article Sailors Snug Harbor has been cleaned up. Please take a look if you have a chance. Thanks dm (talk) 01:41, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

1898 Cartoon 10Kmiles.jpg

Infrogmation: were you able to find the source of the cartoon for the 1898 cartoon 10Kmiles.jpg. I would like the title of the book where you scanned it from. thank you.Whippet2 (talk) 12:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

More or less. I replied on your talk page. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:10, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

RE:In the Good Old Summertime (song)

No particular reason; it struck me as a folk song, and when I started the article I knew virtually nothing about it. I created the article because I ran across an album on iTunes that I grew up listening to and this song was on the album. But any insight you have is welcome and wholly uncontested! See you around!--Esprit15d • talkcontribs 21:12, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Jazz nicknames

I saw your article while on new page patrol. While I see no problem with the article being appropriate for Misplaced Pages, my concern is that the article title might be misleading to some: the idea that title conveyed to me was that the article would be about words used as synonyms for jazz. Though I could be alone feeling that way, could you give this concern a little thought? Blanchardb--timed 12:09, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

As the talk page explains, it's a spin off from "Jazz royalty". Good point; I'll move it to "Nicknames of jazz musicians". Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:08, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Could you help fill in some things?

Hi Infrogmation. I left the message below for User:Ed Poor, then noticed you are also one of the still-active early adopters.

I circuitously found you through WT:RFA, just as I was working on a Wikiversity project which could use someone who was "there near the beginning" of Misplaced Pages. The project is Ethical Management of the English Language Misplaced Pages, started a week and a half ago by some very disgruntled Wikipedians. While I'm not exactly on their side (quite the opposite in at least two respects), I have been working with them to prevent wars (of both the flame and edit variety), and have found quite a bit of it interesting food for thought.

If you have time, I'd really like to get some first-hand accounts of how Misplaced Pages was "managed" early on, before the development of the current system of policies and other structures. I've been with Wikiversity since it's beginning, but while I know at least some of our policies and other structures were designed to avoid some of the entrenched problems of Misplaced Pages (for a good example, compare WP:RFA to WV:RFC, but honestly I don't know how the problems came about. "OR" is permitted on WV, so we don't need you to write a billion footnotes: just relating your impressions and experiences would be fine. I threw together an outline this morning, at least lining out some of what I personally would like to learn about :-).

By the way, I left a note about it, but don't be suprised if these guys are (perhaps justifiably) skittish when new folks arrive, as they have been (perhaps justifiably) the target of a lot of (perhaps justifiable) anger from Wikipedians and others. They seem to be feeling a bit more confident now (in the positive sense), so hopefully the energies will more and more move towards teaching and learning rather than wars and espionage :-).

I also asked Ed to have a look at how Wikiversity's policy structure compares to the early Misplaced Pages, particularly in how we select our custodians (Custodian = Admin in Wikiversitese), and would be interested in your thoughts there as well. There's also been some discussions about a cross-project effort with Wikiversity and Wikibooks to come up with a "History of Misplaced Pages and Wikimedia"... Wikiversity's initial role would be to collect first-hand accounts in it's "OR=OK" capacity, while the Wikibooks side would involve a referenced textbook. --SB_Johnny | 14:04, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I'd not heard of "Wikiversity" until now. I'll take a look at it later on. In the mean time, if you have any short specific questions I might be able to answer for you, feel free to ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
That's interesting... you're not by a long shot the first one to say they've never heard of it in the past few days. I guess what I'm interested in is how the atmosphere has changed on WP since the early days, both for the better and for the worse. Wikiversity is still in it's early days, so the insights of people who have been around long enough to see how WP changed could serve as a guide and/or object lesson for us as we grow and change. --SB_Johnny | 11:43, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Meetup

I'm interning at LSU for the summer - I leave on August 29th. Before I leave, I wanted to see if it was possible to set up a Misplaced Pages meetup. Do you have any thoughts/suggestions on the matter? Raul654 (talk) 05:05, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Sure. Were you thinking of New Orleans or Baton Rouge? If New Orleans I could probably reccomend a couple of cafes with wi-fi in the city. I'm going to be in and out of town during August; probably won't be availible much of the middle of the month. I'd enjoy a chance to meet you IRL; if a formal Misplaced Pages meetup doesn't work out, a chat over a coffee or beer or po-boy might be good. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I'd be up for doing either NO or Baton Rouge. It appears that more Wikipedians live in NO than live in BR, so it might be worthwhile to have it in New Orleans (to get better attendance). Since you know the area, any suggestions you have would be great. (Don't worry about picking a place with internet access - the people who go to meetups are interested in talking to the real live people next to them instead of hanging on the internet. Good parking and easy highway access is definitely suggested, however)
For a date - are you going to be available two weekends from now (Friday August 8, Satuday August 9, or Sunday August 10)? If so, that seems like a good time to do it. Raul654 (talk) 22:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Hm. Better for me Fri Sat Sun would be 22 23 or 24 Aug. I believe Saturday night the 23rd is the Krewe of OAK Mid Summer Mardi Gras parade, which I wish to catch. -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
That weekend (22-24) works for me. Would you like to suggest a place near the parade? (Preferably one with parking, where the noise won't drown out conversation) For a time, how does Saturday at 5:00 PM sound? Raul654 (talk) 01:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds great. I sent you an email mentioning a couple of places that would be convenient for a meeting and also for anyone who wishes to catch the parade later as well. -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:40, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
No parade, it seems. Contrary to the listing in Huli's Louisiana Festivals calendar, closer sources say the OAK Midsummer with be Saturday the 30th. The 23rd at a cafe in the Carrollton section are still good time and place for a meetup for me. -- Infrogmation (talk) 17:48, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

I've created Misplaced Pages:Meetup/New Orleans to centralize the discussion. I'm going to be notifying some people shortly. (I'll also ask the signpost to do a story) Before I do, can you post an exact location to that page? Raul654 (talk) 19:03, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

One more thought about location - I saw that Rue de la Course doesn't have anything but coffee and pecans. Since we're meeting at 5:00, it might be a better idea to pick someplace that serves dinner. Raul654 (talk) 19:23, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Actually, they serve decent sandwiches and other light eats as well. But your point is valid if we wish to make it more of a dinner meeting type of thing. Let's take the discussion over to Misplaced Pages talk:Meetup/New Orleans. -- Infrogmation (talk) 19:28, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Transcontinental Railroad

While the tracked grades of the CPRR and UPRR were joined with the driving of the Last Spike at Promontory Summit, Utah, on May 10, 1869, the line was not deemed to have not meet the requirements of the Pacific Railroad Acts of 1862 and 1864 until six months later on November 9, 1869. This date of completion was established by a decision of the U.S. Supreme court in the case of Union Pacific Railroad vs. United States (99 U.S. 402). (See The Official "Date of Completion" of the Transcontinental Railroad under the Provisions of the Pacific Railroad Act of 1862, et seq., as Established by the Supreme Court of the United States to be November 6, 1869. (99 U.S. 402) 1879)

The Eastern terminus of the Pacific Railroad was not Omaha, Nebraska, which is located on the Western side of the Missouri River, but was actually Council Bluffs, Iowa, which is its sister city situated on the eastern side of the Missouri River directly opposite Omaha even though Council Bluffs and Omaha were not physically connected by rail until almost four years AFTER the first through trains ran over the Pacific route when the UPRR's Missouri River Railroad Bridge was completed and opened on March 25, 1873. (See Executive Order of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, Fixing the Point of Commencement of the Pacific Railroad at Council Bluffs, Iowa. dated March 7, 1864. 38th Congress, 1st Session SENATE Ex. Doc. No. 27)

Hi, Infrogmation. I cropped the photo from Flickr and uploaded it, rather than using the Flickr import tool. I believe I copied the Flickr photographer's name and linked to his Flickr page correctly. I have corrected the the license to be non-self 2.0, please let me know if there's anything else that needs correcting. Thanks.   user:j    (aka justen)   18:56, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Message from Fangusu

Infrogmation, I need to upload something important. 59.183.25.49 (talk) 13:45, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello, Infrogmation. This IP also appears to be Fangusu. He's been editing many of the same articles in a similar style to Fangusu - switching images, uncommenting deleted images, removing/adding cats, etc. I don't know Wiki procedure well for things like this, but I figured I'd bring it to your attention since you're the blocking admin and the IP directly above has shown he is evading his ban. Doctorfluffy (robe and wizard hat) 03:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

PLEASE, Infrogmation, PLEASE unblock me!!!! I have reviewed the policies. *sniffle* *sniffle* *sob* *sob* 59.183.23.98 (talk) 03:44, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

59.183.48.55

Hello Infrogmation, as you've seen, this is a dynamic IP. Would you please show me an IP within the 59.183.0.0/18 range that was used for more than 24 hours by the same person to explain your modification of my block? What was the reason that made this necessary without contacting me first, and why is it beneficial to the project to block innocent users for almost 6 weeks when this IP is no longer used by Fangusu? --Oxymoron 08:50, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I see no edits by that ip# that look not to be by the blocked user. I therefore saw no reason not to extend the block more in line with the blocked user. However if you think it is a potential problem which may result in collateral damage, I have no objection if you wish to reset the block time as you see fit, with the understanding that it may be reblocked if the blocked user seems to be using it again. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:34, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
In case of dynamic IP addressing, it can not be assumed that the IPs are used by one person only (in fact, they aren't), even if no other person used this IP for editing Misplaced Pages in the past. Good blocks block the vandal's current IP for the time it is actually used by them. Everything else can cause collateral damage exclusively. Of course this includes that this particular IP is reblocked if it is used by the vandal again, but the chance for this is extremely low (on average it takes 44.86 years for a /18 IP pool if we assume that the vandal connects once every day until then), so it's really unlikely that this will happen during the next year, and the innocent users outnumber the vandal. If things worsen in the future, a controlled rangeblock will help, but there are some good IP edits from this range (I can provide you with a full list if you want). I've unblocked this IP and also 59.183.25.49 as they are no longer used by Fangusu. Regards --Oxymoron 10:43, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your information and work. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 11:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Small question... but with regard to the above, what is to be made of this pair of edits:

Since this looks like the DIP either "borrowing" a blocked editor's name, or it is that editor evading the block with thumb to nose.

And the IP's edits currently: http://en.wikipedia.org/Special:Contributions/59.183.5.11

Middendorf's

Could you please tell me which statements made in the article on Middendorf's need additional verification or citation? I think I have linked relevant articles in excess considering the length of the article I wrote. If there are no contested statements, could the banner at the top be removed?

Also, is Hurricane Ike's damage on the restaurant, the most extensive damage the restaurant ever received, really slanted toward recent events? It seems that though recent, the flood was a major point in the history of the restaurant. --NOLAhistorian (talk) 21:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Please re-consider block of Sneaky Oviraptor18

Hello there Infrogmation, can you please re-consider your block of Sneaky Oviraptor18. The edit you reverted and blocked him for () was not vandalism; it was actualy him trying to give a custom award to another user. It is true that he was vandalizing beforehand () but both of those edits were made before he was warned by J.delanoy for vandalism () and he stopped promptly after that warning. Icewedge (talk) 00:10, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. The block is temporary (and I think well warrented; the user certainly should have known better than to vandalize articles and make problems for others). If Sneaky Oviraptor18 requests unblock &/or an apology / promise not to do more vandalizing on their talk page, I won't object to shortening the block. -- Infrogmation (talk) 12:33, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:FolliesBergereCostumesBW.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Misplaced Pages:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jessegillan (talk) 11:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Apalachicola National Forest

Hi, I would appreciate it if you could look in on Apalachicola National Forest over at Wikitravel. Another user has some agenda in deleting the page. I added a considerable amount of PD content and it is nowhere near being a copy of the Misplaced Pages page as claimed. Gamweb (talk) 12:27, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I am just an occasional user/contributor over on Wikitravel with no particular say there. I'm not familiar with the article in question either. I therefore don't believe I'd be of any help to you there. Sorry. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:57, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm reviving Rajah Matanda, which you deleted for Copyvio

Hi. You deleted Rajah Matanda as a copyvio of http://www.txtmania.com/trivia/first.php on 26 December 2004. I'd like to inform you that I'm reviving this article as a stub, with intention to expand it later after I un-stub Rajah Sulayman and improve Battle of Bangkusay. Since the reason for deletion was Copyvio, I'm assuming you won't mind me creating a completely original article? Thanks. -- Alternativity (talk) 15:26, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for asking. You are correct; if it was deleted for copyviol reasons but is a legitimate encyclopedic topic, there is no restriction on recreating the article with non-copyright-problem material. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 23:53, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

ban?

Dear Infrogmation,

Recently you banned 64.9.76.99 for a week--perhaps you could do it again, as suggested by the edit to Yo-yo, http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Yo-yo&diff=next&oldid=246958691. I apologize for not knowing how to ask you more properly, or in a more wikified manner. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 05:02, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

That vandalism edit was made just before the block went into effect; that ip# is currently blocked from editing. If more vandalism comes from that ip# after the 1 week block expires a longer block can be put into effect. You did fine by reporting here, or to another blocking admin who has dealt with a specific vandal before. Check out Misplaced Pages:Vandalism and Misplaced Pages:Abuse reports for more info if you need to report persistant vandalism. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 12:30, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

MasterEditorDXK

40 days for someone with no prior block record? And some constructive edits? Is there something going on here we should know about? Daniel Case (talk) 17:40, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree with the comments by FischerQueen and Mangojuice at User talk:MasterEditorDXK. Note as well editor had NO non-vandalism edits to article space this entire calendar year. Given the user's history before that, IMO this was a user who knew just what they were doing in making trouble, not a newbie messing around. I have no objection to shortening the block if the user asks and says the problem won't be repeated. However I notice on the talk page there apparently is another problem and the unblock has been declined; I'm not inclined to second guess the declining admin, but won't object if you are. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 01:34, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Time Cube

I have nominated Time Cube, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Time Cube (2nd nomination). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Uploads to be Deleted Because of Duplicates?????

I am working simultaenously on English Misplaced Pages and Swedish Misplaced Pages, uploaded about 40 photos here on Eng Wiki and then had to upload them all again on Commons because Swe Wiki woudn't not take them otherwise. Is what you're saying that you are now going to delete all the pictures uploaded and put in here because I had to put duplicates on Commons? Please explain how that will benefit Misplaced Pages! And what I can do about it. Thanx EmilEikS (talk) 01:58, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Images on Wikimedia Commons are accessible from Swe, English, and Wikipedias in all other languages-- if they are uploaded to Commons there is no need to upload seperate copies to other Wikipedias. Sorry if you didn't know this before and uploaded multiple copies -- now that you know you can save you can save effort by uploading them only once. If I can be of assistance, feel free to ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:40, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Move to commons representation

The image SanCristobalChisChurchFascade.jpg is a candidate to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons. When you uploaded this image, you licensed it for use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). On behalf of the Misplaced Pages and Commons communities, thank you. However, the GFDL requires that reproductions of the image (and any other GFDL-licenced works), must be accompanied by the full text of the GFDL. The GFDL is intended more for documentation and not images, so downstream re-users may be hindered by additional restrictions of the GFDL which may not work well on the use of one image.

Before I copy this image to the Commons, I wanted to ask whether you would be willing to multilicense your work under an additional license, such as a Creative Commons licence. Creative Commons licences, such as the Attribution Share-Alike license provide a similar copyleft permission to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements such as the distribution of the licence text. All you need to do, is place the additional license tag alongside your current license. Users can choose between which one they want to use the image under. There are many free licenses accepted on Misplaced Pages and Commons which can provide freedoms similar to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements.

You are under no obligation whatsoever to alter the license. Doing so merely cooperates with those members of the community who believe that multilicensing your work can ease the reuse of images outside of Misplaced Pages.

If you use a GFDL license tag which requires distribution of Misplaced Pages's general disclaimer (indicated by "Subject to disclamiers" in the template), it is also suggested that you switch it to one which does not apply them.

Whether or not you choose to dual-license your work, thank you for your consideration.

Please also see Misplaced Pages:Copyrights and Misplaced Pages:Moving images to the Commons for more information.

Hello! I am user from Polish Misplaced Pages (User:TR) and few months ago I decided to create a global account. But before I did it, I had had another account on en.Wiki (User:TR26). I would like to know - it is possible to change my nick on en.Wiki from "TR26" to "TR"? TR (my talk) 10:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey y'all!

We're going to be having our first Mississippi meetup next month, and I would love it if you'd like to come out! A few of us will be staying overnight, so if you feel up to it, we could have a meet and greet that night and then breakfast the next morning and talk about Misplaced Pages and everyone's areas of expertise. Let's show 'em how it's done Southern-style! Mike H. Fierce! 21:45, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Help on Mae West Article

EmilEikS (talk) 02:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I am now accused of "personal attacks" in my stating what anyone can safely surmise by reading the talk pages of these cooperating editors about Mae West (Pinkadelica's has just now been archived) which have been read by me and several of my office colleagues with amazement. How do you feel as one of Misplaced Pages's most experienced administrators, about the current look of the Mae West article as adjusted since admin Kingturtle wrote on the Discussion page there? The editor Wilhardlivie has just added no less that 78 "citation needed" notes throughout the text, if my quick count is correct. What does this tell a newcomer about English Misplaced Pages (compare e. g. sv:Mae West) looking for information about one of America's best known entertainers? EmilEikS (talk) 05:26, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
