Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/PHG

The above-linked Arbitration case has been closed and the final decision published.

PHG's mentorship and sourcing arrangement is both revised and extended; the full list of new conditions are available by clicking this link. Furthermore, the original topic ban on editing articles related to medieval or ancient history has been rescinded. PHG is prohibited from editing articles relating to the Mongol Empire, the Crusades, intersections between Crusader states and the Mongol Empire, and Hellenistic India—all broadly defined. This topic ban will last for a period of one year. He is permitted to make suggestions on talk pages, provided that he interacts with other editors in a civil fashion.

Any particular article may be added or removed from PHG's editing restriction at the discretion of his mentor; publicly logged to prevent confusion of the restriction's coverage. The mentor is encouraged to be responsive to feedback from editors in making and reconsidering such actions. Furthermore, the Committee noted that PHG has complied with the Committee's restrictions over the past ten months, and that PHG is encouraged to continue contributing to Misplaced Pages and Wikimedia projects. PHG should be permitted and encouraged by other editors to write well-sourced suggestions on talkpages, to contribute free-content images to Wikimedia Commons, and to build trust with the community.

Avoiding scrutiny

I'm wondering about the history behind this situation. This editor is editing using several different IPs. Here are three of them:

This is especially serious because he's editing policy pages. He is definitely attempting to avoid the scrutiny of other editors, and has admitted it on his talk page. Why is this being allowed? -- Fyslee (talk) 02:48, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I have no objection if anyone wants to file it at WP:SPI. The editor announced on the user page of his named account that he would only work with IPs from now on, so this is not precisely deceptive, it is just scrutiny-avoiding, and the T-word may apply. (He may have been trying to get a reaction out of us). There is a possibility that he is using the internet from a mobile phone supplied by this Serbian company: http://www.mobilnisvet.com/. He could be doing this from the US, since the guy appears to be based in Chicago.

Banning him wouldn't exactly stop him from editing. But it is at least thinkable to block anonymous editing of Misplaced Pages from this company's phones. Two or three /24 blocks would be a start.

My other idea is to list all the IPs he uses on his named user page, and full-protect the user page. He would still be allowed to edit. Such novel ideas are not always supported, but it could work. EdJohnston (talk) 04:02, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Checkuser election

Hello, Jehochman, how come you do not come for Misplaced Pages:Arbitration Committee/CheckUser and Oversight elections/February 2009? There are many candidates who do not even enough experiences in SSP/RFCU cases unlike you. I admit that I have not fully read the "new policy" on the election, and nomination, but I think you are really qualified candidate. CyberLink

In my view, there should be an article about CyberLink, because they have got a sizable share of multimedia software market. I just created a really short stub, but I noticed you previously deleted CyberLink Corp. due to blatant advertising. I'm really disappointed about your lone voice here.

I understand that you might have been bitter about my vote on your RFA, but c'mon! It was more than a year ago -- and you won the vote, anyway.

It's not a good idea to let your long-held personal grudges influence your administrative decisions so strongly they go against the clear letter of policy, as has happened in this case. Διγουρεν_{Εμπρος!} 03:55, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
