Stalkers wanted

I'm making an appeal to everyone who's fielded questions on my talk page before; anyone who wants to drop by once a day to have a look would be most welcome for the next couple of weeks. I've got my hands full doing CSD work and communicating with wikiprojects about WP:Article alerts, I'm converting a fair number of speedies into prods and tagging the talk pages so that wikiprojects will be alerted. Also, I think it's generally better for someone who has questions about a deletion to talk with someone other than the deleter; that relationship is off on the wrong foot. I'll be happy to return the favor. (Watchlisting) - Dank (formerly Dank55) (push to talk) 21:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Ironholds, you are awesome, and I thank you. The name of the publication is the 'British Blue Book of the Crimean War', and if you could find it she says you can marry her instead! Cheers man, Skinny87 (talk) 11:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Ack, sorry, all we know is that it was a contemporary report, issued a little after the end of the conflict. Skinny87 (talk) 11:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
That's really kind of you - it's any kind of mental health issues in soldiers during and just after the Crimean War. Skinny87 (talk) 12:05, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
I had my suspicions of how easy it would be to find, Charlotte only found one book mentioning it in any detail. How difficult would it be for you to convert them to pdfs? Skinny87 (talk) 12:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't want to put you out :) Cheers again; look, I have to go offline for a while now, but I'll hit you up on IRC. If you want to send those pdfs via my email, that'll be great. Thanks again, Skinny87 (talk) 12:32, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

US Congress

Please attempt to follow your advice in the last point above. I have been working on these articles for years with several people having complex misunderstanding you are naturally repeating. My solution may not be perfect, but generally some calm, professional thought is useful. Consider the possibility that I understand something you don't and that it might take physical evidence and months of thought for your to realize the problem. I am doing no harm, perhaps some good, and certainly haven't deserved the comments you are making. stilltim (talk) 13:28, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Hell's Belles (band)

Hi. I noticed you tagged the article as a speedy A7. I originally brought it to AfD because (for some reason) I thought articles that had been around for a while can't be speedied. Am I wrong? Yintaɳ  14:24, 9 May 2009 (UTC)\

Peter F. Cross

This article was tagged with an A7 tag and was deleted within five minutes of creation, even before I had a chance to place a {hangon} tag on it. Cross was a minor figure at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, but had a major role in the creation of a historic double eagle gold coin as well as a commemorative medal. I had also provided two reliable independent references, including that of an official U.S. government website. Bill (talk) 23:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Smith v Eric S Bush

I think that Mr Bush, the surveyor went in the trade by his full name, which is why all the casebooks show this. I agree though, it's unusual! Wikidea 08:24, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Trust me on the name! As for the case of the hooded man, it looks good, but where are the case citations? Is it not reported? You could use an infobox, like in Carlill. Also, do you think you could stay with a facts/judgment format? If you want to give long fact descriptions, then perhaps the thing to do is give a very quick (two or three sentence) overview of the facts and the CA decision: of course, this case mightn't be legally significant (I've never heard of it!) and more of a cool story. :) Wikidea 12:31, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I think you spoke too soon! I just found it for you on Westlaw (by typing Alverstone, Ridley and Phillimore into the search). There it is: R. v Williams (John)Court of Criminal Appeal; 13 January 1913; (1913) 8 Cr. App. R. 133. Have you got access? Wikidea 12:44, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm putting up an infobox, and leave you to do the rest. It's out of copyright, so you can take out the formatting and paste up the judgment (if you wanted). Did you say you've done more contract cases? Are you adding categories (eg <Category:English contract law> as you go? Wikidea 12:48, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Cheers - but as it happens I have to be away next weekend. I did have in mind to pop by, but it'll have to wait! Wikidea 13:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

the v. vs. the v

Hi Ironholds,

Thanks for catching me again on using "v." versus "v" . Are you sure this is a transatlantic convention? I am inclined to use "v." I will stop doing it if you're certain it's not the United States convention, but I'd appreciate if you could point me to a style guide of some kind. thanks Agradman (talk) 19:50, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

In America we use a v. , in Britain a v is used Geoff Plourde (talk) 20:01, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, gotcha, ta. Lots of little things like that in the world - I've yet to work out why we Brits spell "judgement" wrong when dealing with law. Ironholds (talk) 20:04, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Its due to differences between Queen's English and American English. When we designed our own primers, the authors simplified conventions they saw as silly. Geoff Plourde (talk) 16:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Image question-

http://en.wikipedia.org/File:Dasyprocta_prymnolopha_(Harvard_University).JPG Are byelaw clauses actually enforceable in the US? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Clarification - I meant in this case 'byelaws' indicated by US museums against commercial photography... Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Museums are -http://www.hmnh.harvard.edu/ & http://www.peabody.yale.edu/ respectivly, however the note about photography was according to the notes on the image in an offline pamphlet.. In any case the image linked is valid fair-use IMO :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:37, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast response, I'm suspecting 'internal' museum rules rather than local ordinances though. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:39, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Mass Deletion.

Hello,

An admin left this on my Talk page.

"Deleting them is not a problem at all. Would take me a half hour or so, but the mechanics of it aren't difficult. However there has been no decision to delete them all. If they truly are all the same, you need to bundle them, or at least some subset of them (say 20) into a mass AfD nomination (see Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion#How to list multiple related pages for deletion) and then, using that subset as representative of the larger class, ask for deletion of them all. Getting the decision to delete a few through separate AfDs results in some precedent for a future mass nomination but you need to be transparent, directly calling for people to debate the merits of deleting the whole class. Once you get a decision to delete them all, an admin will take care of it.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)"

Socks and VK

I have no idea whether Kittybrester's new friend is a sock or not. However, you should look at Kittybrewster's history of a possessing a following of supportive socks and in turn supporting an entire court of socks (supposedly now banned). It is hardly surprising that some editors now automatically fear the worst. Giano (talk) 10:10, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Congress articles

I have done my level best, with complete sincerity, to address the concerns expressed about having this data on various accounts, etc, etc. I have almost built the 23rd United States Congress to display and will still finish it. However, it then took less than an hour for a user (Markles) to completely undo the work and restore the unattractive, confused and incomplete article proceeding. I really need some serious help by anyone that cares about getting this right because I honestly am feeling persecuted and will soon give up my efforts. stilltim (talk) 19:13, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I've just finished reviewing the edits on this article, and it appears to me that editor Gregser is adding and deleting material from the article that he created with little heed to editorial criticism. SALIN page.

Hello, you have recommended the SALIN page for deletion (directing me to the WP:ORG page)

SALIN is a "notable" South Australian organisation.

SALIN events have been covered in Australia's peak Library and Information publication "InCite", published by the Australian Library and Information Association (). SALIN has a membership of over 300 people. Through its membership it has significance to the Library community in South Australia. It complements the activities of ALIA (the Australian Library and Information Association).

SALIN is not a company. It is a network. It is non-profit.

SALIN is recognised by the following academic and professional institutions:

Kaz Incorporated article

Hi there, saw your nomination for speedy deletion of Kaz Incorporated article I recently created. To be honest I was not that familiar with the "Criteria for Speedy Deletion". I was personally intrigued by the company history after I recently bought a humidifier manufactured by the company, and I thought its absence from Misplaced Pages was an oversight. So I thought I might be of service in contributing the information I could find.

Ultimately I believe it's noteworthy, but I'm indifferent to the final disposition of the article. I'll spend my 30-45 minutes on some other endeavor next time. However it looks like another editor removed your speedy deletion nomination shortly after it was added.

I'll let you the two of you figure it out. Cheers, Dgstangel (talk) 20:35, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your opinion. Google the term. It's nonsense (no meaningful content or history) or it's a hoax (or as you would prefer, let's wait 5 days for it to be deemed madeup). Google brings up 6 hits for a girl by the same name as she published in her article (which shouldn't have personally identifiable information). Coke

I'd be happy to collaborate on fixing up the Edward Coke article. As you can see if you go to the Coke page, I've added most of what's written in my sandbox to the article already. Right now, I'm just sort of slowly working on a section about Coke's writings (e.g. the Reports and the Institutes.) If you've got any thoughts about what more should be added to the page, or how to improve it, I'd be happy to discuss it. I think it would be important at some point to explain just why Coke is so important to the Anglo-American tradition of the rule of law - perhaps in the article's introduction. Googol Hyperplex

I wasn't going to tag with context initially, but couldn't think of anything better to tag with especially since, the same guy has created Googol Hyperplex, Googol Megaplex, Googol Gigaplex. Of the lot, Megaplex is actually valid, it was defined the same time as Googol, but the Hyperplex and Gigaplex are pure made up stuff (discovered on May 29, 2009 is what the article said!). I didn't think a redirect was worth it as no one is going to search using these terms, but didn't want to waste time with an AfD on this. --SpacemanSpiff (talk) 03:47, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Coppell Copperheads and McKinney Marshals

I do not understand why these should be deleted in a speedy manner and why this should be an issue. Nothing has been copyrighted or anything to that nature, but Coppell Copperheads and McKinney Marshals are relevant and works in progress. Yes, I will continue to correct little things on these each day, but these two pages are significant and valid. They are not going to be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjrbbhaw81 (talkcontribs) 03:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Changed from Professional team to Summer Collegiate team

McKinney Marshals and Coppell Copperheads were changed at the beginning of each page to Summer Collegiate team. Please let me know if this is what you believe is appropriate. Please look at the other pages in the Texas Collegiate League to see if they are correct. Either way, inform me and I will correct it further. Good observation! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjrbbhaw81 (talkcontribs) 04:14, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Tom Deitz

I have declined your speedy request at Tom Deitz and recommend that you take it to Misplaced Pages:Copyright problems. Only about a third of the article was in the source you referenced, though the remainder may be copyvio of other sources. --Philosopher  04:35, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Sneakiness

You probably will wish to mention to your mentee that this, even if it was a joke, wasn't really appropriate. I think EVula is a fine admin and 'crat, but he's human; and it's entirely possible he may have not noticed the deception until after the fact. bahamut0013deeds 08:29, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I see you fell for it. :P I was referring to the fact that he piped sysop permissions in that link instead of rollback. I have a very hard time believing that it was accidental. bahamut0013deeds 11:08, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Bringing it up does nothing, though - he'll cry AGF, as he always does. If you can think of anything to do, give me a poke. Ironholds (talk) 11:23, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I think a large cartoon hammer to the skull may help. bahamut0013deeds 10:14, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
It was a typo...or nine..I meant to Special:UserRights PirateSmackK 13:08, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
That's rather a large typo to make. And you didn't notice the difference between UserRights and uhh, MakeSysop? AGF only goes so far. Ironholds (talk) 13:16, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
I've seen enough. That's about the most egregious deception I've seen on wikipedia. I blocked for 1 week and I think I'm being very lenient. Toddst1 (talk) 15:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Coppell Copperheads

Just a quick note on Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Coppell Copperheads. You typed "basketball", and I'm sure you meant "baseball". I took the liberty of fixing that in your nom, but if I goofed feel free to revert me. Cheers!--Fabrictramp | talk to me 16:21, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Anguispira cumberlandiana and copyright

Hi Ironholds,

I just took a look at this article. The quotes that were in it were not a copyright violation. They were in the public domain, being taken from publications dating from the 1840s. Since they were the original species descriptions for this snail, I think it is appropriate for them to be included in the article. I did put them in block quotes however. Hope this is OK with you. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 13:28, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
