Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Cold fusion (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Indefinite full protection, shortly after the article left temporary full protection, Abd, immediately began reinserting the same sections that he and I edit warred over him previously inserting (the section referencing "Storms" and the section on multi-body fusion). At no point during the protection did Abd bring his proposed changes to the talk page - in fact, the only proposed change made on the talk page is still under discussion. This article should remain fully protected in the most recent stable version until such time as the talk page can come to a full and complete consensus on changes. Then, changes can be made via {{editprotected}}. Thank you. Hipocrite (talk) 02:51, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Employee Free Choice Act (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Several anon IP's, all in Milwaukee, WI, regularly vandalize this article. It's a pain in the neck to keep up with--typically several times daily. It was semi'd for awhile, but resumed as soon as the semi expired. Please semi-pp this one for at least a month. Thanks, Kenosis (talk) 20:16, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. There are a few productive edits from anons so I'd hate to go much longer than that for now. If it continues again, we'll go longer-term. Rjd0060 (talk) 20:36, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection, IPs Hounding. PXK /C 17:14, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Question: Who are the IPs? Could they be sanctioned instead? I hesitate to indefinitely semi-protect a user talk page because you never know what IP user will need to leave legitimate comments at some point, albeit months, in the future. Anyway, I semi-protected it for 2 weeks until we get that sorted out. --Ryan Delaney 17:15, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- The "IPs" are just me on this one IP address (which I will freely share with you at the end of this comment) poking fun at him because he marked one of my edits as vandalism when it wasn't and apparently I considerably offended him when I said he wasn't paying attention when he marked my edit as vandalism without actually looking at the edit. 69.105.172.180 (talk) 17:24, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- I get a lot of stuff from IPs because of huggle. I'm frankly sick of it. PXK /C 17:28, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- If you are improperly flagging edits as vandalism and receiving complaints, you are only making the situation considerably worse by removing the ability of those you flag to point out the flag was unjustified. Furthermore, "I get a lot of stuff and I'm sick of it" has never struck me as a valid reason for protection on Misplaced Pages. That is close to giving yourself special treatment and one of WPs core tenets is that people don't get special treatments and even being an admin is no big deal.
- Actually, from looking at PXK's user talk history, he does not get a lot of anything from any IPs and this entire protection is completely ridiculous. I will leave him alone but I would like to strongly request that this is investigated further; there is no evidence of recent harassment besides my incredibly mild comments. 69.105.172.180 (talk) 17:38, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

- User(s) blocked. Blocked the IP for harassment. I've done a hell of a lot of RCPatrol and my advice is to ignore the complaints you get on your talk page. Do not ever respond to trolls, since it just feeds them. If an IP is vandalizing your userspace pages in a harassing manner, someone at WP:AIV should be willing to block them without warning. Thanks, --Ryan Delaney 17:43, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Several anonymous IP's have continuously added unsourced and rumored tour dates to this article. I've had to revert these edits three times now within the past 19 hours or so. I personally think it may be one person making these edits under different IP addresses, but the page definitely needs to be protected from these constant unsourced tour date additions, please. Keith Jardine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Per this: some anons think Jardine looks like this guy and keeps changing the nickname. This has been going on for months now, and while not a major problem (just changed a few times a week) it'd be nice to get a break. (Somewhat doubt this will get through, "not enough recent.. " etc, but figured I could ask). Cheers, . --aktsu 08:02, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Declined, yes, not enough, sorry. You might want to consider warning users after you reverted their vandalism, one of the IPs could have been blocked days ago if someone had given them their final warning then. SoWhy 08:41, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- I often figure it better to not notify the drive-by vandals that they've been reverted prompting them to return (though he should've definitely gotten a warning now but I forgot while going through my watchlist -_-) . If a third person (who's aware of the issue; looks like it's just me and Cube' ATM) would watchlist the page, that would be appreciated. --aktsu 08:48, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Please do warn them, each and every time. As SoWhy (talk · contribs) suggested, this will make most sysops (including myself) more willing to block in the future if they have been adequately warned. You can use javascript tools like Twinkle to make automate the process too. It's really quite easy. :-) --Ryan Delaney 17:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

- Declined I have blocked the disruptive editor. If he returns, consider post to WP:AIV or another noticeboard for dealing with disruptive editing. --Ryan Delaney 23:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Note: Non-static...That is not the editor's only IP, and his other (User:207.134.0.130) is dynamically allotted. Hence merely blocking one IP does not solve the problem. Look at the history and you'll see he jumped right back in with a different IP (going so far as to blank the page). This is also not the only anon that has been editing the article disruptively of late. Semi-protection is the best option here. --IllaZilla (talk) 23:45, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. Either the page should be semi-protected, or this person's whole IP range has to be blocked. The first option would be more desirable. Timmeh!(review me) 23:55, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've soft blocked the range (I think). Let me know if that helps. --Ryan Delaney 00:05, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

- It's always preferable to block disruptive editors rather than protect a page. Anyway, I protected it since blocking isn't working. --Ryan Delaney 01:12, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Template:Military ranks (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
the template:commonwealth military ranks is appropriate for the small percentage of searches and users interested in the commonwealth. the us military ranks are of much greater interest, much greater use (2,843,612 american service men vs. 590,160 in commonwealth). the ratio is even more lopsided when with us troops in combat vs. commonwealth troops in combat. the info box provides better info, in the fromat consistent with military navboxes, particularly the us. diremarc (talk) 23:55, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protection around 2 weeks. For some time now, there have been several vandalism cases. It is, evidently, the same user -that disregards warnings- with different IPs, so we can't block him. The article remains pretty much untouched (no unregistered users contributions), except for this vandal, who insists in adding unreferenced nonesense. I thought a two-week semi-protection would be ok, at least to deter the current abusers. Then, we will see.--camr 18:56, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protection for around 3 months. As is usually the case with this type of article, fans on IP or new accounts are editing unconstructively in the lead up to the programme by adding rumours and unsourced speculation. This has lead to edit wars and is likely to continue until the programme finishes (late August/early September). The article was protected for a month - this finished a few days ago and ALREADY the problems have re-started. I therefore request semi-protection until just after this time and a precedent has been set as this normally occurs every year. DJ 17:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Shortcuts
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Shortcut
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Temporary full-protection, I keep adding neutral, foreign sources about his Romanian origin (that is, his father was the Romanian nobleman John Hunyadi), sources from Corvin's contemporaries, yet I see someone tries to push a Hungarian or even Cuman descent on his father's side. I believe the vast amount of sources which indicate his Romanian descent at least allow for this "theory" to remain in the article, since there are many more numerous, and more objective, sources claiming he is Romanian, than otherwise. I don't see how you can delete from the article information which is based on historical sources.--Venatoreng (talk) 00:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
