Living Memory LGBT History Timeline from Trans perspective

This discussion has been collapsed.

A possible resource. Transgender Aging Network has launched a project - Living Memory LGBT History Timeline to assist with aging LGBT folks "It is impossible to tell without asking someone precisely which public events shaped their lives, but knowing what was likely reported in newspapers and discussed at dinner parties during a person’s lifetime may help you understand how their worldview was shaped. To offer insight into the concerns, lifestyles, and belief sets of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people who are now 50 and older, the Transgender Aging Network has constructed the following timeline showing how old they would have been when there were critical events or changes in the lives of LGBT people." Starting with the 1920s the events list can be cross-referenced with current GLBT timelines and used as a possible stepping stone to aid Trans projects and awareness. verbiage

James Martin, S.J. the U.S. entertainment industry is of "two minds" about the Catholic Church. He argues that,

On the one hand, film and television producers seem to find Catholicism irresistible. There are a number of reasons for this. First, more than any other Christian denomination, the Catholic Church is supremely visual, and therefore attractive to producers and directors concerned with the visual image. Vestments, monstrances, statues, crucifixes - to say nothing of the symbols of the sacraments - are all things that more "word oriented" Christian denominations have foregone. The Catholic Church, therefore, lends itself perfectly to the visual media of film and television. You can be sure that any movie about the Second Coming or Satan or demonic possession or, for that matter, any sort of irruption of the transcendent into everyday life, will choose the Catholic Church as its venue.Benjiboi

Chris Crocker (Internet celebrity) - Gays and YouTube

The biggest breakthrough came when gay folks volunteered in droves to help organize and register people for the CNN/YouTube debate held last July at the Citadel in Charleston. "I bet 75% of the people who were manning (the registration) process were members of the community," says Warren Redman-Gress, the current executive director of AFFA.

November's CNN/YouTube Republican debate drew 4.5 million viewers, making it the top-rated debate in cable history.
'We live in a society where there are virtually no repercussions,' said Ms. Min of Us Weekly. The repeat offenders who most often populate our gossip, she said, know full well they can 'get arrested one day, walk a red carpet the next, and still have as many photographers shouting their names and wanting their pictures.'

Still, some celebrity journalists believe that while the explosion of instantaneous news media outlets has made these personalities more accountable for their transgressions, the offenses themselves haven’t necessarily grown more offensive over time.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:2007 Pride magazine.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:2007 Pride magazine.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. +Angr 14:44, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

LGBT Question

I'd like to start a new article about a LGBT artist. The only problem is a lot of the press I have on them is in actual magazines. How does one prove notability if a lot of the person's press (40%?) is in actual gay publications/magazines not online press. What would you suggest I do? Thanks. Swancookie (talk) 21:41, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, you're in luck, sources do not have to be available online and many, most?, aren't. Use the template at Template:Citation#Citing journals, newspapers, magazines, or other periodicals and fill in every thing you have. Be sure to put the entire cite within ref tags like <ref> (full citation here) </ref>. Good luck! -- Banjeboi 03:40, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Gerald Walpin firing

Hi. In trying to fix the major damage that was done to Gerald Walpin firing by some editors (not by you), it's possible that I may have unintentionally undone some of your good edits. However, I see that most of your edits were about Americorps and Walpin, each of which already have their own separate articles anyway, so it doesn't have to be in this article anyway. If I have not corrected the other things, I apologize - it was not intentional on my part. Grundle2600 (talk) 16:54, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I only was addressing the lede, I hadn't ever heard of this person, the firing or really anyone but Obama - I didn't even known what Americorps was even though they're huge so I came to it all with very fresh eyes. I'm a stickler that the lede be a stand alone stub so if someone only reads the lead they get the overview of what the article is about. In that context we do explain who Walpin, Americorps etc are to provide enough context. For instance it's quite relevant that Americorps has a budget of 250-300 million, in that context disputes over 100,000 will often occur, especially with government projects. Also that Americorps is massive. Ledes aren't always perfect but that ones not too bad. The other issue was to throw away the Wikinews link - that article was quite bias and based on other sources anyway. There are tons of sources for this so I hope the article survives. -- Banjeboi 17:02, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

User:Swancookie is one of a string of SPAs that have been materializing over the last three months in disputes over editing articles over minor-league Los Angeles celebrities. Several of them are obvious sockpuppets, and all maintain the same approach -- complete disregard for the requirements of WP:RS and WP:NPOV, an enthusiasm for groundless personal attacks on editors they disagree with, and an insistence on maintaining the articles as shrines to their friends and colleagues. There have been repeated threads on administrative noticeboards on these disputes, with no support found there for the SPAs. User:Swancookie materialized a few days ago after a long absence, and has done essentially nothing except reinserting text that fails WP:RS and directing personal attacks at other editors (mostly me). I suggest you review the full dispute, and I commend to you User:Bali_ultimate's comment about the disruptive activities. I also note that, under WP:RS, it is not acceptable to uncritically cite unsourced quotations found on an artist's website praising the artist in glowing terms. That fails WP:RS by a wide margin, which requires that"Articles should rely on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." It is particularly unacceptable to do what Swancookie does repeatedly: writing quotation links which disguise the actual source. I would also note that I have myself googled several of the quotations involved, and discovered no sources for them independent of Wikimedia, Wikimedia mirrors, the band's own site, and fansites republishing text from the band's site.
