Hello VirtualSteve, as a novice user I am finding the Misplaced Pages site quite frustrating to navigate and communicate basic concerns in good faith.
As I have posted (or attempted to post) on a number of occcasions now: I would very much appreciate Administrator-level advice on how to more effectively communicate and see that the sorts of inappropriate material that the YellowMonkey user is posting in relation to Roland Perry is removed from Misplaced Pages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk:YellowMonkey&diff=301528998&oldid=301504774
Can you please help me with this or direct me to who could help me?
To date my experience has been that Misplaced Pages users (including Administrators) are active and vigilant with regard to violations of the ''form'' of editing rules (deleting; blocking; third-reversions; strike thru; talk page dominance; etc); but not attentive, in my opinion, to the ''content'' that I am flagging should be removed because it is inappropriate for its reputational damage on Roland Perry. Clearly the removal of inappropriate material from Misplaced Pages is a priority over any contraventions of the mechanics of editing (which in themselves are unintentional editing rule breaches on my part as a novice user).
I would appreciate any assistance you could please provide.

*Haruspex - wikipedia is a medium which uses discussion and collaboration between editors to work on presenting content that is verifiable through '''third party''' resources that are presented from a neutral point of view. Conflict of interest editing is problematic when it comes to neutral point of view. I have no interest personally in the subject ] however I note that some editors think you may be that person - and that you deny this out right - however you do indicate at the very least that you are close to the subject and another person. From that perspective you appear to have a conflict of interest and your statements will require alternative references to those directly related to ] to carry any weight. Merely bleating on that Yellow Monkey is this or that, or that his point of view is this or that will not get you one step closer to proving anything. That said my first sentence is the most important component for you to stress to other editors (and indeed to Yellow Monkey). You need to argue, without personal attack, without changing the words of others, without removing the words of others, and via the presentation of a neutral, and verified (third party) method why your points are correct and Yellow Monkey's (or indeed anyone else) are incorrect. Beyond giving you this advice I can offer no further help because I have no interest in the subject and my job as an administrator with regards this matter is to ensure all editors, including yourself follow the rules - that's it. You should therefore address your further questions at the talk page or if that fails (but you need to try hard first) at ].--] ] 12:44, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Thankyou for your post. Some good information; some opinion not so fair; and some unfair. ] (]) 14:31, 12 July 2009 (UTC) (novice user)
**I will also briefly add that whilst it is your right to remove the warnings that I place on your page - doing so implies that you understand the warning. In the case of the latest one (and the one's before) I gave you good advice as to what to do next. To remove those warnings and then come here with a similar type of question - and to ask others such as Mattinbgn who gives you the same answer as I do seems at the very least to be somewhat insincere. You need to decide whether you are a serious editor and act that way else others will quite fairly think that you are just trying to disrupt wikipedia to make a point about something that is close to your heart but not really bearing on meeting wikipedia guidelines, policies and objectives.--] ] 12:50, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Glenfield Park photo
Hi Steve,
Got 3 new photos of South City (See: Category:South City Shopping Centre) but can't make up my mind on what would be best for the infobox. Also the Aldi is coming on 1, 2 & 3! Bidgee (talk) 13:06, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- G'day Bidgee - I like this one best but of course it's your choice. Aldi will make Glenfield interesting and it won't be long before they open the doors by the look of the rate of construction.--VS 22:38, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Hey again
Hey again Steve. :D
I wanted your opinion on a few edits of mine. I edited a bit of Transportation in the United States, cleaned up the article a bit, and standarised a few refs and also put repeated refs under one name. Just tell me your thoughts on them please. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 09:40, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'll be happy to but in just over an hour I am almost constantly away from my computer from now to next Sunday. I'd like to spend a bit of time on a request such as the one above and to give you frank, candid and sincere comments but that will have to wait until Monday 22nd June so that I can devote an appropriate amount of time to the task. Okay?--VS 10:03, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- Absolutely no problems. Cheers :D --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Any follow ups? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:09, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Mr Srikanth - My delay in responding (I tried to explain some of the reasons for the delay below in another post). I've looked at your edits up to June 22. Your edits are fine in terms of standardising refs, placement of fact tags etc. You seem to be fixing some of your own mistakes as you go which is good in terms of the fix but probably could be lessened if you use the preview mode before saving. All in all pretty good work.--VS 07:37, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Two Vandals for ya: User 67.242.151.17 & User 76.22.2.75
Hi Steve
Happy editing. Have a look at this & this edit, both made by guys who don't even have an account on Misplaced Pages & obviously don't think Misplaced Pages has any sort of integrity whatsoever. Do me a favor & block these retards; we don't need people like these clowns editing on Misplaced Pages. Cheers AndrewEnns (talk) 05:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Andrew I am only here for a few short hours and then on the road with real life issues again. I have short blocked the first of these anon editors but I have also removed your vandalism warning (leaving you a short note in the edit summary). I know you meant well but please remember not to feed the trolls. Please just leave a standard and polite warning message (remember as anon IP's it is possible that other people will use the computer and be confronted with a less than professional notice). I have not blocked the second anon because he did not continue with his edit (the abuse filter warning them otherwise and they then appeared to stop before saving). Thank you for dropping by.--VS 10:01, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize if my warnings fed the trolls (I don't even know what that means actually). I was simply trying to make these guys understand how Misplaced Pages willl not tolerate the type of edits that they made. The second one did cross the line but the first one I was simply trying to get my point across in a respectful manner. Every time I come across a vandal like them, I tell them that: you obviously don't think Misplaced Pages has any integrity at all. The reason for that is because these people are showing that with edits such as the ones make on the Lake Chelan & Greg Kimmerly articles. Anyhow, thank you for blocking one of these users; I will report any more trouble I come across. Cheers AndrewEnns (talk) 15:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
AEK ATHENS (soccer club) vandal
Hi there STEVE, VASCO here,
Let's see if am luckier this time: this chap, who edits exclusively in the topic mentioned in title, has "contributed" in another player from that ballclub, Sebastián Saja. All the wikiversions and links found in the player's article state he was born in 1979; well, our man thinks differently, and changed it without a word (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Sebasti%C3%A1n_Saja&diff=296125675&oldid=293939820).
If you look carefully in just the last page of edits (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Sebasti%C3%A1n_Saja&action=history), you will see at least 10 of his IP (starting with 92...), no summaries added, nothing.
Is a "small" protection possible? Ty very much in advance,

Bombing of Darwin
RutgerH (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is being disruptive in the Bombing of Darwin article. Bidgee (talk) 07:21, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- He's been blocked. He's doing the whole "I only did 3 rv's!" routine. When will people learn than more than 1 rv is an edit war! 86.3.61.125 (talk) 20:52, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- "Only 3", eh? WP:GAME is a beautiful thing :P
- Oh, btw, I need an edit done please, Steve. Dave Grohl. The only genres that should be there are: "Alternative rock, post-grunge" - nothing but those per consensus. Occupation(s): "Musician, songwriter" - note the uncapitalised "s" and if you're a musician then it's logical that you can play instruments! Also, under Instruments, can you remove "bass" and "piano"? We only have instruments that he's regularly played. Associated acts: "Scream, Nirvana, Foo Fighters" (separated by <br /> - or whatever the coding for it is) per the hidden message. That's it. Thanks very much if you do this for me, Steve. I appreciate it. 86.3.61.125 (talk) 21:02, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well. That's as per Foo Fighters consensus. You'd also need to pull from the Probot article. --Kingoomieiii ♣ Talk 21:08, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Generally we always kept the genres to the ones he's most notable for. I don't quite understand what you mean, though? Probot is a one-off, and, as such, doesn't really count for a genre or associated act... :-S 86.3.61.125 (talk) 21:12, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Edit War - RedKing7
Hi there,
I am having a spot of bother with RedKing7, who keeps making and re-reverting a bold edit to List of diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom, without seeking a consensus or providing substantive reasons.
The issue relates to RedKing7 wanting a reference to Britain's offices in Taiwan removed, because Britain does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan. I maintain that because it serves as a quasi-mission, which is run by the FCO (Britain's foreign ministry), has most of the functions of a typical diplomatic mission, and is listed on the FCO website, then it should be listed.
His reasons been totally focussed on what the missions are formally called, and ignore other factors that I mentioned. Examples of his stonewalling include:
- Your insitence on equating a trade and cultural office with a diplomatic mission is untenable
- Until you have provided a source verifying your claim that the UK has a diplomatic mission to Taiwan / RoC - I must insist that you do not add Taiwan
I have repeatedly assured him I would be happy to have the issue discussed as long as it covers all diplomatic missions by country articles. Just as my arguments have merits, so has his. But he has refused to direct his argument at a common page, or involve other contributors. Earlier he used the same frustrating stonewalling tactics for Diplomatic missions of Ireland.
It makes me wonder if he is really commited to these articles, or merely thoughtless, or is deliberately making inconsistent change without consensus. Please visit Talk:List of diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom and tell me if I am handling this issue appropriately.
Thank you Kransky (talk) 12:34, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Technically, it should be sourced. That information is non-dubious and has stood long enough that it shouldn't be simply 'removed' (at least in my opinion). Find a source calling it a diplomatic mission, and you win (or if he continues at that point, he's a problem editor).
- Also. I can't recall which policy this was under, but it's frowned upon to hold a dialogue between reversion edit summaries. As the policy states, that creates an environment where the only way to respond to a statement is to disruptively revert. --King ♣ Talk 13:01, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. There are no sources that definitively state that there is or isn't a diplomatic mission, although I accept there are no diplomatic relations between the UK and the RoC. My argument is that it is listed along with other diplomatic missions on the FCO website. Kransky (talk) 14:02, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- So you HAVE a source (the FCO site) but he disagrees? Then HE needs a source, unless he can make a case for your source failing WP:RS. I honestly don't have an opinion either way, as I'm fantastically uninformed about the issue at hand. --King ♣ Talk 14:14, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Page protection
Hi there STEVE, VASCO from Portugal,
Could you also protect this page please? This player does not play in the customary soccer club the vandal operates in (AEK ATHENS FC), but also plays in Greece, and i recognize the anon IP.
In a recurrent pattern also present in the last situation i showed you, he changed birthdate, when all sources available state different (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Fabi%C3%A1n_Estoyanoff&diff=294745001&oldid=291038312), then removed one club in INFOBOX, just because i think (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Fabi%C3%A1n_Estoyanoff&diff=next&oldid=294745001 - if you see BDFUTBOL link i provided once, it says there he played with VALLADOLID).
Maybe the vandal is now a PANIONIOS (also a Greek soccer club) fan? Maybe, but it's him alright...Ty very much in advance, regards.
VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 18:58, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I took a look at this page but there haven't been any edits for a couple of days (and only 7 edits since 20 May) so I don't think it needs to be protected at present. I have watchlisted it, though, and will keep an eye on it in case the problems start there again. Sarah 01:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Another IP
Trying to nip another genre warrior in the bud- 173.65.21.123 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). He's fully aware his actions are frowned upon. --King ♣ Talk 20:07, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- An account to go with that IP as reported by the previous user who is wise in the ways of Utan Patness... this account is by far the most single purpose g_war account I have in at least 17 hours (or over the course of a few weeks) Like the above (likely the same person?) he dislikes the term "pop rock" and removes it from his favourite band's articles on a daily basis. Oh if Pat were only here :-). The Real Libs-speak politely 22:17, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Steven is busy in real life so I've taken a look at this case on his behalf. I was quite stunned at the extent of this guy's edit warring. For example, All the Right Reasons, The Long Road and Dark Horse (Nickelback album) have dozens of blind reverts over the last four weeks and he seems to be waging his war across numerous articles. So I've blocked Gotica indefinitely and I'm looking further at the moment. Unfortunately the IP address seems to be dynamic or partially dynamic as he seems to be showing up on other 173. IPs. I also noticed Taster (talk · contribs) as another possible sock. Sarah 02:27, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Also 173.169.66.133 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 79.53.228.1 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) (different range and probably less likely to be Gotica). I'm going to anon block the IP that appears to have been used most recently, which I think would be 173.169.66.133. Sarah 03:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I've blocked Gotica indefinitely and the IP 173.169.66.133 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) for two weeks, anonymous only, account creation disabled, as that seems to be the most recent IP he's used to edit anonymously. Sarah 03:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, that's a relief, thanks much! --King ♣ Talk 13:01, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- No probs. :) I tried to explain to him that the block is of him as a person, not just the account, and so it means he's not allowed to avoid the block by editing with any other IPs or accounts unless/until the matter is resolved, but I'm not holding onto any hope that he'll actually pay attention and I think it very likely he'll just start using a new account(s). So if you spot any new IPs/accounts you think are his, please do come back and let us know so we can look at them and block or get a checkuser done if necessary. A brief explanation and message to my various talk-page visitors
Thanks to those that have come here in the past few days. I apologise for not dealing with many requests as yet - caused by my real-life work which at times involves dealing with political and constrained bureaucratic time lines. I should be able to address your queries and requests in full from Thursday this week.--VS 08:53, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Maelefique
This editor has filed an appeal against your block. Looking at the somewhat convoluted situation as it presently exists, I am not certain why he is blocked. There is an ArbCom ruling about Equalwhom, who has been in an edit war with Maelefique, but I cannot see a comment there about this user. I may be being stupid and, if so, do not be afraid to say so! --Anthony.bradbury 21:04, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Anthony, no stupidity on your part at all :) - I neglected to add the details of block here although it was added to his block notice of which a link was provided above my notice here. As I read it - this section provides that no editor may revert any given changes to a subject article more than once within a seven day period, except for undisputable vandalism and BLP violations. Maelefique was aware of those limitations because he had been made aware of the case (on his talk page) and the two edits made by Maelefique were not indisputable vandalism and were the same reversion. I am very sorry for not adding the material to the log of blocks and have done so now. I will go to Maelefique to indicate this also.--VS 23:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank you kind Sir
It was like I had picked up one of those "middle of the night while your trying to sleep" flies that just keep buzzing round your ear and you can never seem to swat it. The Real Libs-speak politely 01:46, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Your travel to Pakistan
How was your experience and which places did you visit.yousaf465'
- I have been lucky enough to visit Karachi, Lahore & Islamabad. In terms of scenery I enjoyed the top end most - with the mountains in the background, even with the tanks in the foreground. I enjoyed the streets and crowds in Karachi and Lahore. The people were inquisitive of me, the food from street vendors was wonderful. I was at one time faced with a threat to my personal safety but my Aussie accent immediately melted the group of young men and they discussed cricket with me and asked me numerous questions about the current Australian and Pakistan teams. In hindsight I was left with a wonderful true story about my experiences at Islamabad airport and also <smile> about the level of carry on baggage allowed on Pakistan International Airlines. I am not religious in any way but respect the religion of all others and found the approach by Urdu speaking men in the streets in the traditional greeting of As-Salāmu `Alaykum comforting and soon learned how much my return response of `Alaykum As-Salaam gained respect and friendship. Best wishes Yousaf--VS 22:14, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Edits On 'Australia' Page
Sorry to bother you, but I simply wish to clear the issue up. All I tried to do was add some missing Capital Letters and some slight formatting changes to make it look that little bit moe attractive. And the currency issue. As I said to Merbabu, every GDP on Misplaced Pages is listed in US Dollars, so there is no need to panic. I hardly see how these are 'unconstructive' edits and how they are bothering you the slightest. For example 'White' hould have a capital if you are referring to an Ethnic Group, Commas should not be used in lists like the Ethnic Group one and 'Others' should also have a Capital Letter. I am only new to editing on Misplaced Pages, despite viewing Articles for years. I hope you understand this. Thank you and I hope you are not alarmed by this. --Billsta1 (talk) 11:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- No not alarmed a bit Billsta. I had noticed that you had been reverted before and you had not provided an edit summary (you should get in the habit of using an edit summary for each and every edit if you could please). This type of editing can wavelike a red-flag to long term editors because without knowing the reason for the change (where it doesn't appear obvious) it seems otherwise that a new editor is making test edits. I certainly reverted on that basis. That said, be bold, go forth and edit - welcome aboard.--VS 11:42, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Steve, 124.170.207.198 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) keeps making the images in the National Australia Bank article so small and is also against the policies and guildlines in place on Misplaced Pages. Bidgee (talk) 09:55, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Bidgee - I have left a welcome message and another message with a link to Misplaced Pages:Images which I hope will assist the editor initially. Should you need further intervention or assistance please let me know.--VS 10:06, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- And since blocked - this editor is an obvious troll preferring to not read your edit summaries and to come (see history since reverted) to attack you. Suspect they may be closely linked to the subject in question - will monitor further.--VS 11:58, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Cheers for that. Bidgee (talk) 13:09, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

- Please sign your comments using four tildes as follows: ~~~~. To your question; Comments posted on a user's talk page are their's to do with as they please. They are relatively untouchable by other editors except in certain circumstances as detailed in this page and links contained within it. If you wish to retract your own comments and they have been responded to by
striking through the appropriate partsperhaps then leaving a note of your reasons - however you do not have the right to strike through or remove the comments of another user in the current circumstances. I note (as my warning does) that the owner of the page in question has also reverted your attempts at this and I was very close to blocking you for edit-warring on his page. If you need help in any way please come here and I will try to assist by pointing you in the correct direction. Perhaps you have forgotten that db-g4 only applies when the article was deleted in the AfD. Kindly restore and unprotect Annie Campbell (fictional character) and any other article you may have deleted similarly or give some explanation.~ Perhaps you have also forgotten that db-a7 applies only to real characters. Please restore Jai Fernandez and the other articles you have similarly deleted. DGG (talk) 23:33, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Good morning to you too David - Annie Campbell was deleted in an AfD - please see Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Roman Harris. Best wishes--VS 00:08, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I apologise re Jai Fernandez - hit wrong deletion category button - should have been deleted as per previous AfD also - please see Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Charlie_Buckton_(Home_and_Away)--VS 00:16, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- and I apologize about Buckman, because he was not included in the latest Afd--I seem to have picked the wrong example. There were all the others, though, that were included. As the admin involved seems to have interpreted his closing other than how I think it should be interpreted, I am not going to pursue the matter--for one thing, I would probably lose the argument, and for another, I don't actually care about these articles except in principle. I Need some Help with Citing sources
I just updated the John Mosley page with the information from the book I just wrote and will publish in September. I want to clean up some of the information on Misplaced Pages that I have found from the research I conducted over the past 17 years and I want to use my book as the source. How do I do this so I don't mess up these pages? I am still relatively new to Misplaced Pages. - Read this to ensure you do not breach conflict of interest guidelines. Create a subheading at the bottom directly after the references subheading titled == sources ==, then place your book underneath in this format ... Author surname, initial, year of publication title in italics. publisher, ISBN. Following this, in the content of the article add <ref>your surname, initial year of publication, p.?.</ref> with the ? referring to the page number where exactly the point you are confirming is noted in your book. Again watch out for Conflict of Interest and that you maintain a Neutral Point of View. Does that assist?--VS 04:02, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Caterpillar Inc.
78.20.129.137 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) keeps removing sourced content in the Caterpillar Inc. article when they have been told to take it to the talkpage but they refuse to. Bidgee (talk) 13:10, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- Seems to be a concerted effort by several IP's - I have protected the article for 3 days.--VS 21:24, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
- The added paragraph gave the same info as already stated later in the section and additionally overstepped what was available on the referenced source, adding information that could not be verified in the quoted source. It was a bad edit and removing it should have been applauded rather than sanctioned. Moreover, the edit was made with only the comment "(→Labor problems: Summarized section)" in the edit summary, which inaccurately describes the action. New (unverified) elements were introduced, the only added value of the post was the added reference and the added detail of the exact year of the even which was indeed 1992, which is more exact that "the 90's", fine, add that... Which was done at the edit:"16:10, 11 July 2009 78.20.130.75 (talk) (44,327 bytes) (→Labor problems: Moved '5 Month Strike' to after '80s and '90s paragraph as it is a 1992 event.)"
