Crocodile tears?

There has been quite a buzz already saying Hollie Steel was faking the tears. Shouldn't the rumours at least be included? 83.71.19.115 (talk) 21:10, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

If you can find a source then yes. Uksam88 (talk) 21:14, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
There's been a lot of thing in papers recently that Susan Boyle is doing all crazy things. They're not included in her page, so I don't think internet buzz really warrants a place on here. --82.71.13.254 (talk) 17:23, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Apologies; the above was me, not signed in --03crichardson (talk) 17:24, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

The current quote "Questionably Genuine Breakdown" is a disgrace. It is not encyclopedic, it is clearly a personal opinion, and does not have a place in the article. --03crichardson (talk) 21:35, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Merge

I think we should merge this article (along with articles such as Susan Boyle) into a section in Britain's Got Talent (series 3): if individual contestents on The Apprentice or Big Brother do not have their own articles, why should Miss Steel have her own article, as a contestent of Britain's Got Talent? In my opinion, she is not "more" famous than the others, nor has she achieved more accomplishments than the others. jftsang 19:46, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I disagree. Both of the individuals have received far greater media attention that far out weighs that of any other contestant. Boyle is one, or perhaps even the most watch video on Youtube now plus the attention she has received in American. With regards to Hollie, i will echo a point i made yesterday. The media attention she has received regarding her "breakdown" on live tv brought out a much wider media debate weather children should be subjected to shows like this. Uksam88 (talk) 19:56, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I disagree... Delete? Merge???? What are you taling about? This is an extraordinarily talented 10 year old for God's sake... Her unprecedented bravery to sing again with full cpomposure at the pure and tender age of 10 was extraordinary and has already made her famous across the globe. Let me see Jftsang sing in public before he undermines Hollie's extraordinary achievement. Worldedixor (talk) 00:24, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

simon is a bully? did she say that?

I saw Hollie and her mom in an online video where both deny Hollie comparing Simon to a bully. I forget where, but it was with a british person, not USA. Check Hollie-Steel.org. I think it might be there. There are other things that she denies saying in that interview.

By the way, I worry about your putting too specific information about a child such as where she goes to school although by now I am sure it is all over the internet.

But in terms of keeping the article, she is more noteworthy than the others. Only Susan Boyle has received more coverage in the USA than Hollie. Nobody other than Diversity, and not until they won, has been mentioned in the U.S. to my knowledge. Hollie was on the national news just like Paul Potts 2 years ago and Susan Boyle. I don't know that anybody else, including Diversity, has done that, and Diversity was only mentioned in the context of Susan Boyle losing, not because of anything particularly special about them. Hollie also was mentioned as a rival to Susan Boyle but because she could beat her.... In other words, it was a positive, affirmative story as opposed to Susan Boyle lost and it happened to be to Diversity. Hollie's talent got her in the U.S. news, not Susan Boyle's failure to win which is what happened with Diversity. Hollie is the second most notable competitor after Susan Boyle and deserves an article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.0.132.115 (talk) 05:32, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

wow, well if america has spoken we should pronounce Hollie Steel as a worthy champion. after all everyone in britian wants to be on oprah —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.71.186.73 (talk) 20:37, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

There is a notice on that matter in the Lancashire Telegraph May 7th 2009 (hope the external link is o.k. in the discussion), here they write: "Among the post today was a letter from the editor of a national newspaper. It apologises for upsetting Hollie by misleading the general public with quotes she didn’t make. She wants to tell the world she didn’t say Simon Cowell was a bully, and she certainly didn’t say she was going to beat Susan." --Malwin (talk) 19:38, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Britain's Got Talent Final Results

Hollie Steel finished 6th in the public voting, beating 4 of the other contestants. As over 4,000,000 votes were phoned in, and Hollie got almost 4%, she received around 150,000 to 160,000 votes. The first 4 in the list received 77.8% of the total vote - see below. Also note that it has been pointed out that the telephone number shown for Susan Boyle during some of the scrolls of telephone numbers while voting was ongoing was actually that for Diversity; if only 2.4% of the total number of voters ended up voting for Diversity but meant to vote for Susan Boyle, the results for first and second would have been reversed. We will never know... but Hollie definitely beat 4 of the other finalists in the voting.

Fan page

Hi all. I added a link to the "External links" to Hollie's main fan page (). Why did you remove it? It is a very good resource, you will find info there which is currently missing in the article, like on the current petition. They are in close contact to Jason Steel. And, if that was your concern, I am not connected to that site in any way. -Malwin (talk) 05:37, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Help on over-zealous editing by Radiopathy

Greetings,

I would like help. I started the article on Hollie Steel. Today I was adding the fact that Miss Steel now has a high powered talent manager and the new entry is being deleted for the silly reason that this person thinks it is an advertisment for the manager. I find that reasoning dumb. The entry's point is that this young talent is progressing to become a serious entertainer who will most likely have new projects.

Here is what I wrote:

Hollie Steel's manager is Steven Howard (formerly with Zomba Music) from the TCB Group. With such a high powered manager Miss Steel will soon be in new projects.

How can I get Mr. Radiopathy off my back? Please help.

Dane Sorensen --Dane Sorensen (talk) 03:21, 24 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dane Sorensen (talkcontribs)

I have serious doubts about mentioning the manager in the article at all, but you can find a reliable source by Googling his name and Hollie Steel's; you'll find an article in the Lancashire Telegraph where it's mention that he was assigned to her by BGT. But please don't take it personally if someone brings up a policy issue and rewrites or deletes whatever you contribute. Radiopathy •talk• 07:36, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
I've taken the liberty of refactoring your heading as ALLCAPS is considered shouting, which is regarded as uncivil] here. Per WP:PROMOTION, I doubt this content is encyclopedic, especially given the highly optimistic second sentence. We don't do this for any performer, not even George Sampson. You should also read this. Thanks. Rodhullandemu 12:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Dates

Dates of developments or reports should be included. We often forget that while the information is fresh in our minds - say when Armstrong walked on the moon - we forget that 5 years from now a student will be reading it for the first time and will need dates and times. That is why I put the date back on Steel and Harris. Just a thought. --Dane Sorensen (talk) 15:00, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of talk page comments

I query why User:Radiopathy deleted comments on the notability of the subject and whether a merger might be appropriate. I must ask that these are re-instated immediately. Such attempts to censor talk pages and control the discussion are contrary to core Misplaced Pages principles. Jezhotwells (talk) 19:38, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Such comments as, "Ha, ha. Comparing a talent show contestant to the moon landing - very good. Jezhotwells (talk) 15:37, 28 July 2009 (UTC)" in response to another user's comments are not in keeping with policy regarding article talk pages, particularly BLPs.
You may want to attempt another Afd, despite the closing admin's comments on the last one; you won't get "censored" there, as that's the appropriate venue.
Likewise, if you favour merging, a template at the top of the article will get a discussion started here on the talk page.
But don't come here to disrupt and then cry about "censorship". Radiopathy •talk• 20:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
I repeat - the notability of this subject is questionable as commented on here by User:Uksam88 and User:Gwen Gale and myself and . User talk:Radiopathy has removed these comments which is in direct violation of talk page etiquette. My light hearted comment re the moon landing was just that - a light hearted comment. I am asking User talk:Radiopathy again to revert their misguided attempt at censorship. Jezhotwells (talk) 21:02, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
You might want to note he also removed one of his own...Uksam88 (talk) 15:49, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
