Kill You (Dethklok Song)
Hello, Gogo Dodo … You declined the {{Db-song}} on this article because "artist's article exists" … you do realize that this is a fictitious band from the cartoon Metalocalypse, don't you? Happy Editing! — 141.156.175.125 (talk · contribs) 05:10, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I am quite well aware of that. The band's article still exists. It may be a "virtual band", but the article still exists, therefore CSD A9 does not apply. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:13, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- Copy that … I just re-read WP:CSD#A9 and I guess I must have vapor-locked on the second criteria. :-) — 141.156.175.125 (talk) 05:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. It is a newer speedy deletion reason and the second part of the criteria catches a lot of people. You aren't the first and won't be the last. =) You can PROD the article as it does not state why the song is notable. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:27, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
- OK … I stuck a {{Prod}} on both this one and Can U Keep A Secret, my other speedy (by the same author) that you declined last night. — 141.156.175.125 (talk) 16:46, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Message from Abalinx
Hi,
I am responding to my current page contribution being deleted. I have read the contents regarding contributions and I can see that I may have not followed the guidelines. The abalinx website is a series of sites and blogs using the abalinx website as their main resource. The site provides on line resources to three main not for profit sites.
They are the Veteran, Pellana and the Hellenic sites. As I am a keen Misplaced Pages follower I do not want to add or contribute information that contradicts the rules and ethics of Misplaced Pages. My initial page insertion was from the website which contained everything. Please note that whilst I was attempting to reduce the information, I pressed the save button on each occasion not to lose what I had edited thus far.
I have reduced the information as indicated below for your judgment. The three main areas of concern piggy back the Abalinx resources for ease of cost reduction and for no other reason. If after viewing the information you feel that it is not within the boundaries of Misplaced Pages, I will accept your response most heartily. Thank you for the time and effort that you all put into making Misplaced Pages a fantastic source of information. Please respond to abalinx@netspace.net.au
Regards and I look forward to you response.

English Defence League
You are identified as having deleted the topic "English Defence League" on 1st August.
"04:55, 1 August 2009 Gogo Dodo (talk | contribs) deleted "English Defence League" (A7: Article about an eligible subject, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)"
FYI on Sat 8th August there was much media coverage in the UK of clashes and arrests following a confrontation between the English Defence League (an anti-islamic protest organisation) and the UAF (Unite Against Fascism) movement that organised a counter demonstration against what was perceived to be a provocative and race based protest in one of the most multicultural cities in the UK.
Examples of media reporting of the events: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/lawandorder/5999879/35-arrests-in-Birmingham-after-rival-protesters-clash.html http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE5772GK20090808 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/08/10/the-battle-of-birmingham-115875-21586141/
I don't know what was on the original page, however you might like to reconsider its deletion as undoubtedly many people will be looking for information on the organisation, particularly now it and a similar organisations ("Casuals United") profile has been raised following the clashes with police and other protestors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.124.16.33 (talk) 12:56, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I checked the deleted article history and at the time there was no indication of the group's notability as there were no included references to their activities. Heal The World Foundation edits...
Hi GD,
Well, I don't know a lot more about how to submit a change to an article than I did last month, but I do have some independent sources to cite now, proving that the "relaunched" Heal The World Foundation has no connection to Michael Jackson' estate.
Contrary to what is currently posted in the Misplaced Pages article, the external link to the "relaunched" HTWF is NOT a link to "Michael Jackson's official Heal The World Foundation website".
CBS New article dated yesterday: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/11/cbsnews_investigates/main5234202.shtml
This article states "...representatives of the Jackson estate say the foundation is not linked, "The Michael Jackson estate has no connection whatsoever to the "Heal the World Foundation” run by Melissa Johnson," said Terry Fahn, a spokesperson for John Branca, the special administrator of the Jackson estate."
How do I correctly cite this and update the article so that grieving MJ fans do not end up at the scam HTWF site donating money to someone who is under investigation?
There is a post on the scam site today quoting Misplaced Pages as "proof" that they are legitimate and that CBS News is wrong.
Please help me edit this article the right way and I will post the CBS link stating that Jackson's estate has nothing to do Melissa & Co.
Thanks!!

I will now attempt to add edit the Heal The World Foundation article appropriately. Please look it over and tell me if I need to change something, or if I do something wrong.
It's my hope to really learn about Misplaced Pages and make contributions on a number of topics.
The editorial system seems to me to be excellent from the little I have experienced, but I know it must be a LOT of work. Thanks to you and all your peers for doing such a terrific job.
All41and14all (talk) 19:59, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
OK, the fact that Michael Jackson's estate says that is has NO connection with this scam site has already been removed since you reviewed it and cleaned it up a few hours ago.
What is up with this? Why can't we get these edits to remain on the page?

All41and14all (talk) 20:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
OK, I am completely finished with my edit. I hope I did it right this time, as I don't plan to edit this article again unless "anonymous" changes it one more time. Or if there is major news, of course.
You have been a true help, and I sincerely appreciate it.

Hi GD,
I can see that I put too many spaces between lines, and some other space-wasting practices. But I am really pleased that I did a successful edit!
Today I was talking with some people at work about how important Misplaced Pages is worldwide, and the general consensus is that it rocks. Not perfect, but hey--we're all human. Hands down, people love Misplaced Pages.
It is a very valuable resource. Right now, I can only think of one other completely free site that brings so much value to the whole world, and that's craigslist.
It's a wonderful feeling to be even a small part of this.
You have been a great help.
All41and14all (talk) 23:39, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
GD, one final HTWF note:
I didn't understand how the history page worked or I would have spotted MJkid earlier. MJkid is the user name of Melissa Johnson, of scam HTWF fame. This finally explains where all the errors in the Misplaced Pages Heal The World Foundation article came from. Looks like she has edited it repeatedly.
MJkid is Melissa Johnson's user name on her own website, and also on the well-known Michael Jackson fan site www.mjjcommunity.com. You can see she has recently "edited" (deleted as much as possible) her own posts under this name at MJJCommunity: http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58378&page=2
About half way down the page, you will see a post from her from December 2008 which identifies her as the user MJkid, signed Melissa Johnson. She deleted the content of all of her posts on August 10, 2009 but could not get rid of them entirely.
This is not really important, but just FYI. I was pretty awestruck by the article history page. The more I learn about this site, the better it is.

Thanks for the encouraging words...
I'm out of town and not online very much this month. I just saw your response, GD, and I look forward to learning how to make continuing contributions here at Misplaced Pages. I have to start small, but I am already thinking of areas where I could perhaps contribute something meaningful.
One of the best things about this site is that everyone who uses it is constantly learning. I can't imagine anything more worthwhile.
Also, I think it is really important, the first experiences one has as an editor/contributor here. You helped me a great deal, and I have a positive view of all things Misplaced Pages because of it. Thanks.

Heal The World Foundation edits...
Heads up, GD. Just checked the HTWF article and saw where 'Mjkid' had removed my last edit where I clarified that there is no known relationship between the current HTWF and Michael Jackson.
'Mjkid' is the user name of Melissa Johnson, founder and President of the current Heal The World Foundation. It is her user name on her HTWF website:
Sorry for the length of this, but I copied this off her profile on the site because her HTWF website is blocked to everyone but members. Here's the link if you want to join and see for yourself: www.healtheworld.us. Find the CBS News Statement by her in the General Discussion forum and click on her profile. It will take you to the information above.
'Mjkid' is Melissa Johnson's user name at MJJComunity, a large and reputable UK fansite. On the 5th of this month, she edited (deleted) her own posts here, but she could not remove her user name and her signature: http://www.mjjcommunity.com/forum/search.php?searchid=370185. You may have to register to see this link, but that is easy to do.
There are many other examples online of Melissa Johnson using the user name 'Mjkid'.
It seems to me that her edits of this article are intended to deceive the reader. The history of the article shows her edits have in fact deceived many readers, as CBS News and the Jackon estate pointed out last week.
I don't know Misplaced Pages policy on this sort of posting, but is doesn't seem OK to me.
I undid her edit because it is deceitful of her to try to hide the truth that she has no known connection to Michael Jackson.

Hi....
This is my first page and I was trying to pay homage to a fellow serviceman and Marine. Please forgive me if I made any mistakes. I should explain....
I firmly believe that if it had not been for him, servicemen lives would have been lost that day. Through his skilled shooting, he saved the lives of many. In today's world, people like this should be acknowledged..don't you think?
I really hope you think so and share my sentiments. Please let me know what I need to do to get him relisted.
Thanks.

University of the arts
I see now why what I did there was incorrect. So how could I go about having the "University of the Arts (Philadephia)" page take the place of the "University of the Arts" page, and have the "University of the Arts" page go into University of the Arts (disambiguation)? In my mind this would be a better thing since University of the Arts is a unique term that refers only to University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the other place refer to University of the Arts in other places which would be better suited by a disambiguation page.
Would people have to come to consensus first, and then what could I do to make this happen? Is it possible? it is really just a really small thing.

Andrew Wainrib
Hello Gogo Dodo, The page for 'Andrew Wainrib'was recently deleted by you. I'm not sure what exactly precipitated the temination, but I am asking you to reconsider, or perhaps point me in a more effective direction to achieve a succesful Wiki-page. Wainrib's directing and producing credits are clearly listed at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1552581/, and including credits for working with leading pop cultural figures like Matt leBlanc(friends) and Andy Garcia.H\Wainrib's latest film, "Cohen On The Bridge:The Entebbe Rescue", opens at a Laemmle theater in LA on Aug. 21. I apologize if I presented this information in a hand-handed way. Thanks for your consideration, and i look forward to hearing from you. Ironbeach (talk) 18:43, 17 August 2009 (UTC)ironbeach

Watchlist Query
I think I have a problem with my watchlist, but I want to see if someone else has this before I report a bug. I recently just created an article, and added it to my watchlist but it's not showing up. I don't have my edits hidden so it should be showing up. Is your watchlist working okay? -WarthogDemon 22:41, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- That didn't seem to help. It also didn't work on any other main page articles I did, until just now where I made a dummy edit on a random article and put it on the watchlist. And after doing that with Berrytown, that worked too and now suddenly it's all working okay again. Weird. Anyways, thanks for checking. :) -WarthogDemon 18:55, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
RfA
Hi Gogo,
Thank you for your message.
Is I have said in my app, feel free to ask a question - there are no prerequisites for Adminship; and as such i would prefer is people bypass the typical prejudice of a "newbie" and actually see RfA's on a case-by-case basis.
I do appreciate your frankness on the issue but would obviously like people to investigate my suitability, not just if i pass non-existant prerequisites.
Thanks, happy WP'ing

Thanks!
Just checking in and saw your helpful (and educational--thank you) comments. I hope to be back home after Labor Day and plan to spend some time learning more about how I can make better contributions to Misplaced Pages.
I noticed on the news today that some of our editorial policies are changing. Please let me know if there is anything I specifically need to know about as a newbie.
GD, you have been a genuine help ever since I first attempted to edit an article earlier this year. Steady, consistent guidance such as you have provided to me is actually downright inspirational. This kind of dynamic learning is what makes the net in general and Misplaced Pages in particular so extraordinary, and I am looking forward very much to participating here however I can and may.

Essy
The article about Essy was deleted citing:
A7. An article about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability. This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works. The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source. The criterion does apply if the claim of significance or importance given is not credible. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion.
as the grounds for Speedy Deletion. Numerous websites/fansites (http://essyfanpage.webs.com/, http://essy.weebly.com/, http://essy.yolasite.com/, http://s1.webstarts.com/Essy/, http://www.wix.com/EssyFanCanada/Essy) exist for the minor model, perhaps the article was reaching, but I feel something should exist on wikipedia. Perhaps something more encylopediac? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sxaj (talk • contribs) 22:07, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

DCowboys01 - disruptive???
Hi Gogo!
First, I want to let you know that I am not trying to be "disruptive". I am just learning how to be a contributor to wikipedia and apparently I am stumbling around like a bull in the "china shop".
I initially added a page under the user name Rhometea. I did this becasue when I was looking around I noticed there was a "list" of U.S. tea companies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_tea_companies
I have a small on-line tea company, and thought I would add my tea company to that list. When I attempted to edit however I noticed at the top of the edit page a notice that one needed to have an "article".
I therefore created an article modeling a few of the other tea companies listed. I labeled those companies to draw them to your attention as at the time I was not able to figure out how to communicate with you. I am glad you did get back with me.
I think wikipedia is a very cool tool, and would love to be a contributor, but I guess I am confused regarding this area. Am I to add Our Home Tea to this list in another way? Please advise. As I noted, I would like to contribute and thought I had a way - I was assuming we could add to articles as long as we are not advertising. My intention from the start was to simply add to a list of tea companies. I think another error I made was not using the "sandbox" as I had not completed the page before publishing. Again, if you can assist that would be great. Can you explain why those tea companies listed have not been deleted, when it appears they are doing exactly what I was doing - simply putting there names on a list.
Lastly - I did not change my user account to be deceptive. When I initially added my page a filter notice came up and mentioned that a user name similar to the subject could be problematic, so I changed my account.
thanks a lot - really feel bad about being a pain- an/all guidance is appreciated... DCowboys01 (talk) 00:27, 29 August 2009 (UTC)hans

Flagged Revisions
The link to the Flagged Revisions article was very helpful. I think most people in the media (and public) don't understand how Misplaced Pages works. (Not sure I do yet...)
What people do understand is how important it has become in all of our lives. Very few sites have the real world impact of Misplaced Pages. I think I have mentioned before that I think craigslist.org is the other site that would be hard to replace. If Google disappeared tomorrow, we would still search the net; with Microsoft, Yahoo, etc. that vaccuum would be filled overnight. If Misplaced Pages or craiglist disappeared... it would really hurt millions of people. It would not be easy to do without either one.
All of the media coverage about the changes at Misplaced Pages are tacit acknowledgement of the key role this site now plays in global culture and in all of our lives. Has anyone written an authentic history of Misplaced Pages yet? If so, how do I find it?
BTW, just saw that you were honored as Wikipedian of the Day on August 12th. Congratulations are in order! You do a great job, GD, and I know it cannot always be easy. However, it's always appreciated by those of us you take your time to help.

- History of Misplaced Pages is a terrific article; I'm still rereading parts of it. Thanks very much for the info, and WOW at all the work and all the people necessary to make Misplaced Pages real.
- Looks like Black Kite restored Cameron Scott's definitive version of the HTWF article (see below). Good to see, and here's hoping that's the end of it.
- I am working on a couple of small articles that I think might have some value. Where can I show these to you to critique without posting them as articles first? -- All41and14all (talk) 03:09, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Continuing changes to Heal the World Foundation article
OK, I just glanced at the Heal the World Foundation article--it has been hijacked by Melissa Johnson's foundation again.
I did not attempt to edit it, as I am over my head with this. Cameron Scott's edits were absolutely correct. I tried to post on his talk page, but couldn't figure out how to do it. Will you please see if Cameron Scott's final version of the article can be reinstated? There is no question that Melissa Johnson relies on Misplaced Pages to send people to her site to give her money, because she claims a connection to Michael Jackson's original foundation that does not exist.
There is no proof of any connection between the two, GD. This blatant, self-serving and false editing of this particular Misplaced Pages article needs to stop. Help, please.
All41and14all (talk) 02:46, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- I just posted this on Black Kite's talk page.
- "It looks like you tried to roll the article back to Cameron Scott's final edit of the article. His 07:12 19 August 2009 edit was the correct version. I have been watching this article for weeks now, and there is a determined, concerted effort by Melissa Johnson's new foundation to pretend and claim a connection to Michael Jackson's original Heal The World Foundation that no one has ever proved to exist. Unsuspecting, grieving fans are finding Melissa's foundation through Misplaced Pages and donating money, believing it to be Michael Jackson's original foundation. This is wrong on a variety of levels.
- Cameron's edit of 07:12 19 August 2009 made that distinction clear. The current version of the article is again unclear on this point.
- Can you please reinstate Cameron's corrected version?
- Thanks!"
- Please look at the article history. The Cameron Scott edit of 07:12 19 August 2009 is the correct and definitive edit for this article. Can you and/or Black Kite get this version reinstated and locked? The confusion among fans worldwide is posted on every major fan site, and there is huge financial incentive for the current foundation to pretend to a connection to Michael's original foundation that has never been proven. There is no evidence that such a connection exists, and this needs to be made plain. Misplaced Pages is not an advertising venue for Melissa Johnson's new foundation, as much as she is trying to make it one.
- Thanks for continuing to manage this process, GD. I really thought Cameron Scott had put an end to it on August 19th. Silly me.
