Hi. I'm not entirely sure about this and I don't know who else to ask. But I wanted to let you know that this page was just created by a new user, user:Biotecfoods. It looks a lot to me like an advertisement, but I thought I should run it by someone else. Thanks. Regards, • CinchBug01:13, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to waste your time! It was just deleted by someone else. Regards, • CinchBug01:15, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
That's how it gets done around here! Law type! snype? 01:16, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

I gotta admit...

I do love your sense of humor. :-O — Ched :  ?  06:11, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Law. You have new messages at Misplaced Pages talk:Canvassing.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Law, I saw an editor got a 1 month block for disruption and violating a restriction on contact with another editor. Any comment? (Yes, I'm trolling here...) ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:14, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

You want me to admit that I'm happy? In all honesty, being a small-time contributor to Misplaced Pages Review, I don't care for either editor. I would like to see the community come together and decide if Peter Damian is here for a good reason, but I don't like seeing an adult get a month rip because 2 boys can't stop touching either other. I take no pleasure in that. Law type! snype? 01:14, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I didn't want or expect anything. I was just curious. I believe he's indeffed now actually following some anon editing. I'm a bit of a softee, so I don't like to see anyone blocked or banned who contributes usefully. But the pattern of disruption that wasn't related to content editing or encyclopedia building was pretty extensive. When are you headed up to the Foothills? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't hold a grudge against any editors. You'll notice that I've never blocked anyone for CIV or NPA or any of that crap. I'm not into it. I was very clear that when you actually go to the lengths to calculate a plan to 'destroy' or even damage Misplaced Pages, you are no better than any vandal, and vandals do not belong here. Peter could have created every FA, but when it came to his tentative plans, I was fine with my block, and I wasn't the only one. I'm headed out first week in September. Law type! snype? 06:34, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I can vouch for this edit. Drinking stomach acid is not good. Now, please insert the correct information. :-p Killiondude (talk) 21:40, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Are you trying to get blocked? Law type! snype? 03:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Twix

Twix was devised and produced in the UK by the British some years before it came to America, and Mars UK was a pretty separate arm of the company, making a different range of products to those made and sold in the US. As for your other example, it depends on where the car was sold. If the Mustang had been designed, produced and sold only in Italy, it would have been Italian. Ford UK made millions of cars which are considered British, the Ford Cortina for example, likewise the Ford Vedette is a French car, and the Ford Taunus is German. Just because the parent company is American, no-one claims they're American cars, and likewise the Twix. It's slightly different because Twix is now a worldwide product, but originally it was wholly British, hence the British English used in the article. Interesting though :) Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:06, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Unacceptable! Twix is as American as bangers and mash. Law type! snype? 03:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
I just got an image of Law shoving a twix in his mouth to buy time coming up with a rebuttal . –xeno 03:22, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
LOL. The British won't stop with just WP:ENGVAR. First Misplaced Pages, then they will try for North America again. I can't let that happen. In the words of some great man, "To you, it looks like a Twix. To me, it looks like a conspiracy -- a conspiracy so vile that even the Gods shall shudder in horrid disbelief." Law type! snype? 03:35, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Eh, go do some press-ups, there's a good chap =] –xeno 03:45, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Haha. That guy in the picture started moving and scared the Labatt's outta me ;) Law type! snype? 04:11, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Damn colonials. They just don't know what's best for them... ! Bretonbanquet (talk) 09:08, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
This was an interesting discussion. I don't know whether to boycott Twix or buy more of them. Reminds me of how we foisted our vegemite on the Aussies. I heard there's a controversy over cadburry switching from cocoa butter to palm oil or something like that? Very troubling.  :) And don't get me started about the Swiss. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Speaking of all things British, would you be willing to work up a DYK for sophomoric humor? If it doesn't interest you no worries Benny Hill. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:59, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Definitely not my type of humor. I prefer Daniel Tosh or Mitch Hedberg - not Dane Cook. Law type! snype? 02:43, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
The Daniel Tosh article could say more about what type of comedian he is and what types of jokes he makes. It was similar to another article I was reading today (theater of the absurd I think) where it never actually said what it means or what it's significance is. I know you didn't write it, I'm just blabbering. I think that's one reason I like specific (trivial?) examples in articles because it tends to show how something is actually used in practice, like a photo does in a different way. Cheers. Are Twix really British? Seems so hard to believe. I'm not ready to accept it yet. Give me time. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Grammar corrections and reversions

Hi Law

I know you're not the only one who thinks that refactoring making minor grammar corrections to other people's talk page comments, but perhaps the right person to object is the person whose comments are amended. Many people (myself included) prefer to have innocent grammatical oversights corrected so when others read our comments, they don't see a silly error. Note that the edit summary jocularly alluded to the fact that it was a practice frowned on by some, putting the original author (and the volunteer refactoring police, it turned out) on notice.

I will be sure not to correct any mistakes I might notice you to have made on talk pages (you are welcome to fix any typos or grammatical errors in my edits). You might consider in the future whether the cure is worse than the disease, however, before reverting such corrections to others' edits in the future.

Bongomatic 03:09, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Correcting other people's grammatical errors on user talk pages is not only arrogant and insulting, but a giant waste of everyone's time. While your scientific hypothesis of 'many' is quite reassuring, I can tell you that there have been several discussions about this and the consensus is that user comments should not be modified unless they are a breach of policy, such as BLP or copyright violations. You are free to go around on a self-indulgent spree of grammatical proportions, but you won't be doing it here. In fact, I will likely revert if I see it done elsewhere, unless it is to further an article or to remove a personal attack, libelous statement, or copyright violation. Law type! snype? 03:37, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Law, I'm surprised you to be so ardent and strict on this issue. I don't see anything wrong with corrections of that sort and I appreciate when they're done for me. I think it's consistent with being a collaborative Wiki. It also encourages correct spelling and grammar which benefits the encyclopedia, since mistakes tend to be duplicated. Of all the things to take umbrage at I'm surprised you're so serious on this particular issue. I would also point out that within a clique of jokers, my talk page tends to be a fairly safe and collegial place to be bold, as opposed to the egg-shell and hair trigger type reactions in article space where people can be mighty jumpy (including about typo fixes as I found out first hand). Anyway, I'm glad you like that bacon hat. It was very well done I thought and creative. Absurd. I checked out some YouTube vids of the comedian you liked. Sad that he passed on, he was a pretty funny and interesting guy. A little jumpy. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:47, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
I equate it to correcting someone in public - which is accepted as poor form. That coupled with the fact that Bongomatic knows it upsets certain users but continues to do it shows a lack of common sense. I generally do not go into endeavors thinking "Well, there's a good chance this is going to piss someone off, but I'll do it anyway." Law type! snype? 03:51, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
Your "equation" is an odd one. Most editors don't seek out edit histories to see whether a comment above a signature has been edited (which is why refactoring other people's comments in a way that changes meanings—even subtly—is accepted as a no-no. However, fixing an obvious error in someone else's comment makes it appear to the vast majority of editors that the original posting was correct. To me and numerous other editors, this is preferable than either (a) having an error on one's text that makes one look careless or ignorant; or (b) (what really is "correcting someone in public", pointing out the error on a talk page or with a pointed edit such as "areis".
Despite your disagreement, your assumptions about motive ("arrogant and insulting", "self-indulgent") are misplaced and fail to assume good faith. I came here and made what I intended to be a polite response to your revert and its brusque (to say the least) edit summary. I guess it is too much to ask the same in return. Bongomatic 06:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the DYK counter info. If you wish, you can delete this to maintain housekeeping. Acme Plumbing (talk) 04:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Why? It's the only interesting thing on my talk page. Law type! snype? 05:06, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Protection

I have protected your userpage because of vandalism and harassment. Feel free to remove it if you like. Cheers, Tiptoety 17:54, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

It seems the previous attempt to protect this page did not take for some reason. I have semi-protected it for a short while to give this IP time to get bored. Feel free to remove it if you like. Chillum 18:32, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, maybe I was not clear enough. Chillum: I protected his actual userpage, not his talk. Cheers, Tiptoety 19:06, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah I understand now. Chillum 21:42, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh and take care and have fun with all your pursuits. If you're up here in the South Bay drop me a note. I got rid of my car and am living off the land, so to speak. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:27, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
And I should mention that I was impressed with your use of the tools. You showed good judgment with restraint, with an impressive use of succinct comments that helped resolve disputes instead of excacerbating them. Were all our admins so wise, Misplaced Pages would be a far more perfect world. ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:30, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
And thanks for all your help with random articles. Much appreciated! I hope you have a good move and enjoy your new locale. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:32, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
And thanks for all your help at DYK. You did a lot of good work there, even though you guys refused to turn it over to the bacon project for a day or two. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:06, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
