Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Intertranswiki

What do you think of the new project I'm setting up? Dr. Blofeld 16:20, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps it could be tied to meta:Translation of the week which is related. Angela. 09:26, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

That would be a good idea. Also see this new proposal by Kotniski here. Dr. Blofeld 09:46, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

he.wiki

There is a ideological censorship about porn in the Hebrew Misplaced Pages, this is the current policy: here translated to English. You cannot create an article about a porn star unless she or he became famous for something else (like Traci Lords because she is a singer/actor or Ilona Staller because she is a politician). "Character's life there is another aspect to meet the criteria of encyclopedic value. Action porn is not enough to win about Hebrew Misplaced Pages." "Not displayed pictures of her body except the portrait of the character, even if the figure wearing a Catholic nun.", "There will be no external links to sex sites." and etc.

You can talk to User:Yonatan or User:Amire80 to confirm this.

I think it's a strong violation of the global Misplaced Pages (The 💕)/Wikimedia rules and of WP:NOTCENSORED policy.

I think you should force them to change this policy.

Sorry for my bad English.

Thanks.

Copyright violation ?

Hi, I'm wondering why you've removed a paragraph from the page Penny (Australian) for the reason "removing likely copyright violation" ? How can you know that this text violates some copyright ? DeepPurple46 (talk) 18:53, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

It had been pasted in directly from part of another page in this edit. I don't believe they copied it from Misplaced Pages but that the Misplaced Pages user copied it from them because it was only part of their page, and because it's not the usual encyclopedic style of Misplaced Pages but instead a style that matches the rest of the site it was copied from. Angela. 02:43, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for this explanation. It is sure that the style isn't the encyclopedic one, and that the added value of this paragraph was very low. DeepPurple46 (talk) 04:55, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Rename me, please!

Hi there, I don't know if it's possible, Angela; but I want you to rename me, if you don't mind. Thus: Zack wadghiri. I'll be thankful.--Zack (talk) 12:33, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I've not seen the note above.--Zack (talk) 12:34, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

IP's editing your sandbox

The reason IP's are editing you're sandbox is probably because it is linked to from Misplaced Pages:About the Sandbox.--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 01:12, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Odd. I'd forgotten about that. I've removed it. I don't think my sandbox is a great example really. :) Angela. 05:44, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Meetup Time in Sydney :-)

Hi all,

It's meetup time again in Sydney - hopefully you'll be able to come along for friendly chat and drinks about all things wiki - topics will no doubt include the Chapter - perhaps with planning for the upcoming AGM, the general state of wiki-play, and the traditional candle lighting to encourage the mythical flagged-revisions extension to make its way on to the wiki. At this point, I usually mention that sitting wiki arbitrators are compelled to buy everyone a drink, but one of our number has taken a rather extreme route in avoiding this duty - if you have no idea what I'm talking about then you're probably busy writing and maintaining articles - but come along anyways on the 21st October, from 18.30 til late, to find out :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 21:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Translators

Any chance you could contact some language schools and colleges to help practice their language skills by translating from Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Intertranswiki? For this to be a success we need numbers. Publicizing that we need translators in any language I think is an important step to make. Have you browsed French, Spanish and Italian and German wikis for instance. There are several million articles which we could benefit from having them translated into english... Himalayan 09:13, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

I don't have any contact with any language schools. Perhaps the people at translatewiki.net could help to promote this instead? Angela. 13:05, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

OK thanks for letting me know. Do you not think though that wikia has a responsibility to try to meet its goals, one of them "producing an encyclopedia of the highest standard". Given that well over half of our existing encyclopedia and million of missing articles need instant improvement by translating from a different language whether it is Italian municipalities which have remained one liners for years or German castles or whatever don't you think we need to be doing something to publicize this need for translators? I think we should be doing more to publicize the need for this sort of work on wikipedia and we are missing thousands of potential contributors who are unaware of this demand for translators. I think that if the people who run this site are serious about improving quality we should be doing a lot more to contact schools and universities and any other potential contributors to raise awareness. I mean I know that wikipedia is one of the most popular sites on the web and used by millions of people, the problem is that it is not edited widely by a similar number.. For instance see Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Intertranswiki/German. At present we have just 4 German-English translators. How many people in the world speak German and English and how many quality articles are there on German wikipedia which are in urgent need of translation..? How do we attract the mass of people needed to translate if we don't do anything to make potential translators in schools or whatever aware of it?. Himalayan 13:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Wikia is a separate company to the Wikimedia Foundation which operates Misplaced Pages. Angela. 20:40, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Expanding Article on Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd

There appears to be a group of individuals who consistently impede any constructive additions to the article in question. Undoing and blocking all editions pertaining to users outside their nest of selections.

The editing recently done to this article has been referenced to credible sources, some already available on other related articles, regardless of the fact of the neutrality displayed in the additions manifested in the facts and phraseology in use.

It would be detrimental to Misplaced Pages if a consensus is not reached on this question pertaining to all articles not only this one. If the material being added is not significant it would be understandable, yet where the facts could be correct and the community interested in the subject at hand are in conflict with the manner of its publication, the rational and professional solution would be to offer an alternative to the edition being proposed. Simply deleting and blocking any attempt to contribute to this and any other article in a constructive manner can only be viewed as autocratic in the least and a hypocrisy of what the globally renowned Misplaced Pages stands for.Wsa1 (talk) 22:22, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
