Thanks for the note

I never know whether to reply on my page or on yours. Just thought I would let you know the substantive reply to your comment is on my Talk page. Best wishes. RonCram 20:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello. IntelligenceSquared held an interesting debate on Global Warming. Based on the votes of the audience, those who said it was not a crisis won the debate. I thought you might be interesting in reading about it. RonCram 17:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society

A tag has been placed on Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Misplaced Pages. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Steve (Stephen) 02:04, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for quickly adding enough information to assert notability. Drop me a line if you need any further help as you expand it, or explaining Misplaced Pages's guidelines. --Steve (Stephen) 02:21, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

User page hint

You mentioned you were trying to get the text on your user page to parallel with your user boxes instead of above them. Simple trick- just have your userbox info first, then your text below. Wiki will automatically put the boxes on the left and fill the rest of the space on the right with your text. Clerks. 14:58, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

IPCC lead authors does that link to the list?

Thanks for fixing the disambiguity for Dick Peltier. Clerks. 15:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Please don't add Category:Climatologists to an article that's already filed in Category:Canadian climatologists. The category duplication isn't needed. Thanks. Bearcat 17:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

WP page traffic stats?

Does Misplaced Pages offer any means to look up how many times any given page gets viewed? I looked around a bit but didn't find any info on this. Birdbrainscan 21:42, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Check Misplaced Pages:Statistics. Real96 22:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Edit other people's comments

Hi, Birdbrainscan. It is considered bad form to edit other people's comments on talk pages, even if they did make a typographical error. Also, "lede" is an acceptable alternative spelling for "lead" in English. For more information, see Misplaced Pages's talk page guidelines. My regards, ~ UBeR 04:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, UBeR, I didn't realize we're not supposed to fix typos in other people's comments.
At first I was ready to claim that lede is just a medieval variant: . But I thought I'd better "google further" and I found this: - great fun, a printing-related bit of lexico-trivia. Usually you have to get up pretty early in the morning to surprise me on that front. (I already knew what leading or ledding is, e.g. as I worked in digital prepress for quite some time.)
I would say using this non-standard spelling is more likely to confuse than enlighten, for the great majority of readers who aren't in on this curious bit of journalism lore.
Also I appreciate that we need to avoid editing to try to standardize between regional variants of modern English spelling like theater/re, realise/ize, and the like. Indeed, being in Canada I'm particularly attuned to these. Birdbrainscan 05:05, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Indeed. The second link there sums it up pretty well. I just play it safe and use "intro." :-) ~ UBeR 05:45, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Science prizes

I came across a page on the European Geophysical Union that lists quite a number of climate science related awards: These can be a good source for identifying notable climatologists. Most of these awards likely don't have their own wiki page yet.Birdbrainscan 03:25, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Why is category climatologists classified under American scientists?

I have an objection to the current classification of the category page Category:climatologists within the outer category "American scientists". This mis-characterizes the category, which applies to climatologists from any country. Is there a reason why I shouldn't just re-file this as a subset of the category "Scientists" or is that considered too big?Birdbrainscan 02:28, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I guess I'm missing something... Category:Climatologists hasn't been edited since December 2006, and it has only three parent cats: Category:Climatology, Category:Atmospheric scientists, and Category:Geographers by specialty. None of those three cats has Category:American scientists as a parent cat, and the American scientists cat does not contain the climatologists cat. There's no Category:American climatologists, either. Could you clarify your question? - KrakatoaKatie 05:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
I have removed the {{helpme}} tag, as there are no apparent questions. If you add another question, feel free to readd it. - Rjd0060 15:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Category:IPCC_lead_authors

As the apparent category creator, I thought you'd want to know about the CfD for Category:IPCC_lead_authors. Ben Hocking 16:48, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Ursulines of Quebec

Well, DGG (talk · contribs) said it was okay, if you check the edit summary from the history:

"this is considered PD in Misplaced Pages. See Catholic Encyclopedia"

But, the Ursulines of Quebec still needs a LOT of cleaning I think.

Proposed deletion of RefWorks

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article RefWorks, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not" and Misplaced Pages's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Toddst1 (talk) 18:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Adding Categories

FYI: When adding categories to articles (or other categories) be careful NOT to enclose them in this {{Xyz}} type of brackets -- which causes the page to be listed in all of the parent cats for the designated category. (Yikes!) Be sure to use ordinary brackets: ].

You're undoubtedly wondering what prompted this note: I could not understand why somebody had placed Category:IPCC lead authors directly in Category:Science. Of course, it was merely the unintended result of your having typed the wrong sort of brackets. In any event, it's all fixed now. But you might want to check and see if you've inadvertently used those brackets on any other pages. Regards, Cgingold (talk) 14:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Talk:Scientific opinion on climate change

Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia! In case you are not already aware, an article to which you have recently contributed, Scientific opinion on climate change, is on article probation. A detailed description of the terms of article probation may be found at Misplaced Pages:General sanctions/Climate change probation. Also note that the terms of some article probations extend to related articles and their associated talk pages.

The above is a templated message. Please accept it as a routine friendly notice, not as a claim that there is any problem with your edits. Thank you. -- TS 18:52, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
