During WWII Kharkiv was biggest and most populated city of Soviet Union, occupied by Nazi. It was captured on October 25, 1941 but Red Army have tried to liberate it several times, starting from Second Battle of Kharkiv in may of 1942. After first, unsuccessful, attempt next (successfull) was done in February of 1943. City was liberated, for some short period and then recaptured back by Nazis. Kharkiv was finaly librated in August 23, 1943 as result of offensive in Battle of Kursk.
